Testing the Intel Xeon E5-2667 v4 eight core CPU in 9 popular and demanding games in 2023, using an RTX 3070 discrete GPU.
Intel’s first 14nm 8 Core actually launched 2 years before the i9-9900K; the Xeon E5-2667 v4 was intended for server and workstation applications, and as such isn’t really intended to be competitive with modern gaming CPUs. However, the used server CPU market is thriving and there are more and more options for socket 2011-3 motherboards in 2023, so gamers on a budget could be forgiven for being interested in the 2667 v4 as a cheap option. Is there enough pedigree here to make this not only good value, but good in general?

Finally, a Broadwell Xeon review. Those Broadwell Xeons at 14nm are now dirt cheap, especially the Xeon e5-2680v4, which I am planning to do a build with (maybe even a twin socket monstrocity with all RAM slots populated) so as to have a comically large core count for running demanding professional tasks). Most importantly, they are fully compatible with existing LGA2011-3 motherboards and upgrading from something like a Xeon e5-2620v3 or 2650v3 to a Xeon e5-2680v4 seems like a no-brainer, which would also make the power consumption less ridiculous.

@@one_step_sideways Dual cpu is not necessary. Most deep learning and machine learning is done on the GPU. Yes, I would still recommend an X99 system with a name brand, whether Asus, Gigabyte, AsRock or EVGA, with a 2680v4 or preferably a 2690v4, coupled with an Nvidia RTX a4000 or a4500. Spend your money on the GPU, you can take it with to the next series up. Xeon e5-26xx v4’s are so cheap right now, except the quality mb are still in the 150-200 dollar range on eBay. However, I have moved on to the X299 motherboards and the i9-10980xe, mainly for the AVX512.

I had been running the 1680v2 from mid 2018 - 1Q2023...it was a terrific CPU for the price ($165, at the time), considering I was able to get a used bundle (ASUS P9X79 Pro + 6 pipe Air Cooler + 8x4GB of DDR3 1600 + i7-3820K) for only $220. I then sold off the i7 for $80, so the motherboard was practically free. It paired well with a GTX 1080Ti ( also bought used in 4Q2019, for $350). That used bundle deal made the overall system build cost quite palatable. Dodged the GPU price bullet by a few months, too. Upgraded earlier this year to E5-2696v3 (Turbo Unlocked with an UV), X99TF, 64GB DDR4, and RTX 2080Ti. A better machine for my use case (mostly productivity, a little gaming). Again, many used components bought locally, save for the CPU off of AliEx ($46) and a new X99TF ($50...that was a deal). Given the RTX 2080TI only cost me $220 (after selling off the Strix waterblock for $50) and the 64GB of DDR4 was $80, the upgrade was relatively inexpensive.

Considering the performance I get from that system and the absurd amount of RAM, I think you'd be hard-pressed to make an affordable system that can game perfectly at 1200p (my preferred resolution) that can beat it. Slapped 64gb ram and a 2070S in there and I'm happily playing 1440p games at a pretty constant 60fps. Sometimes it's a bit stuttery playing Warthunder at max everything, but not much, and so I had the 2667v4 in mind as a backup. Seems like this video is about to make the price go up though lol. But before I do that, I ordered a second CPU tray and another 2690v4. Currently waiting for the fan to arrive, and then I'll have 28 cores to mess around with doing I don't even know what.

The 5775C was a great processor too from the same processor core family, but only 4 cores 8 threads. The secret sauce? The 128MB of L4 cache If you dont want a Xeon, you could get an i7-5960x for around the same price, but be aware, this is on the older haswell architecture and an older node, yes you can overclock it, but the 2667V4 will be more efficient

Brian from Yes Tech City tested the Xeon X 5675 OCd to 4.5 GHz and the 1680 V2 OCd to 4.5 GHz paired with an 3090. I Lookd Up the FPS difference between them at 1440p at it seems, that they have approx. 15 to 20 FPS difference. So when i Look at your Benchmarks, the X 5675 at 4.5 GHz should be nearly at the Same Level as the 1680 V2 or am im wrong.

I chose the HuananZhi X99TF (Ver 1 with C612 chipset) and have been quite pleased with its performance. Originally bought it from the a non official site on AliEx and the order was not filled...eventually got a full refund with the AliEx process. I re-ordered through the official HZ site for $100 and received the motherboard in a few weeks. Then...3 months later...the initial "failed" order surprisingly arrived at the door. This was all during 2020 (covid), so I suspect the initial seller had supply chain issues and even failed to communicate/message. In any event, 2 x X99TF for only $100...a nice bargain. Both boards have performed very well...my office system is paired with the E5-2696v3 while the family/home PC is paired to the E5-2678v3.

With a decent overclock, the 5960X wins by a mile. 4.4GHz seems like a reasonably achievable target, I got 4.5 and I think some chips can go higher still. Consider a 240mm AIO or a dual tower cooler like an AK620 or Thermalright Peerless Assassin though, it’ll get hot.

@ilovehotdogs125790
@ilovehotdogs125790 Жыл бұрын
It might be the ram. 3600cl18 is bad for ryzen. Get aida 64 or intel memory latency checker. Then check your memory latency, that’s ryzen’s weakness. Faster ram will lower your memory latency to ~55ns. I would try to run it at 3600cl14-14-14 and tune your subtimings. Mainly trfc and trefi

Some of the engineering & qualifying samples on AliExpress say they only work with ECC RAM, and I guess it's possible some of the 2011 v3 Huanazhi etc. boards might not support non-ECC. Probably worth checking before you invest, but yeah... this was regular non-ECC DDR4. Also, v4s don't have a turbo unlock option. Not a big deal with chips like this one as it's only a 100MHz difference, but if you were hoping to run a 22-core 2699 v4 at 3.6GHz, I don't think it's possible.

Ain't that cool? 256GB of DDR3 costs pennies, and if you're serious about virtual machines - these things are insane. Old workhorses. Full PC's with these can be bought used for under $500. I'm talking full maxed out systems. Only thing they don't have is USB-3 support, but that's easily solved with an expansion card. For professional work and non GPU rendering, 2667's kick ass.
