Which launch?
@naivety

Except they're not transparent, because when asked what counts as a view they didn't specify any views on ads that play before one short plays aren't counted as monetizable, which is insane because the only reason ANYONE clicked on the shorts feed was to see content 100% of which WASN'T made by Google. Complete cop out and opaque answer by the Google team here.

You guys rock. As a brand new KZfaqr, I have been using shorts to get lots of views and converting many of them into subs that watch my long form. I'm a music guy and create everything original, so it's even more gratifying to have success already. I'm going to make 10k subs this year. Well, that's my goal at least. haha. Gotta go big. Keep on creating guys. We are so blessed to have this platform to spread our brand.

Great interview, very informative! If I could make one feature request, the biggest gripe I currently have with the shorts feed is not being able to easily identify which short I just watched once I click onto a channel. Many times I watch a short with some kind of “see the next video for part 2” but because the lifecycle of a short is so long it could be from months ago and finding the follow up is a pain. This feels like a fair easy fix that would make a huge difference to user experience, especially in being able to discover a creator through the feed then engage on a deeper level.

When sharing advice/opinions/ about schools and doing drugs: Turn your advice about schools around, PARENTS HOMESCHOOL you own offspring, cause the government ain+t caring and have clearly said that many times. About drugs? Correct here, stay away. But there is one big problem none of us take into account: TVs - the most popular drugs in every household. Daily watching TV = doing drugs daily. The MK ULTRA MIND CONTROL - search, soul, and start giving out real valuable advice. Stop repeating whatever the TV (most powerful weapon formed against humans minds) spreads. And souls, homeschool your offspring fully out from school programs or the home-schooling of yours and homeschooling at all. Evolution of Television 1920-2020 (updated) - the greatest weapon ever created. And as we promo the A. I and all the ways it can be used, we promo deceiving others and being deceived.

Except that it’s only available on the Android app, which doesn’t allow you to adjust the volume of the music if you choose to use some available music. The iPhone app doesn’t allow you to choose a Thumbnail but it does allow you volume adjustments on the chosen music. KZfaq can’t seem to figure things out at the moment! Highly disappointing as a shorts only creator.

The new pooling model seems like a really good idea for videos discovered through the feed where you can’t attribute an ad back to an individual video. The change penalizes shorts that are discovered outside of the feed, such as search, external sources, and suggestions. In these instances, you are able to attribute an ad to a video, but with this change, that ad revenue gets redistributed to all shorts. A shorts video view outside of the feed (has ads alongside the video) is much more valuable than a shorts view in the feed (an ad plays every X views). With this change, that's no longer the case. A side effect of this change - it disincentivizes making shorts that answer specific questions and that surface via search primarily and it promotes shorts that perform well in a feed setting.

My 2 questions for KZfaq would be: 1. Does posting daily on shorts help the algo? or can you STOP making shorts for weeks and it won't effect your views when you post again? 2. I'd love to automatically split revenue between creators if you collaborate on a video together. Eg. I collaborate with the Creator Support channel and they agree to give me a 20% split in that video's monetization which can be set up automatically on the back end of KZfaq.

This was exactly what I was looking for! Although, I'm a little confused on the RPM. You guys mentioned that Shorts won't really have an RPM because that money is going to be pooled and then split up evenly based on what percent of views you generated. (which means they should all hypothetically have the same RPM) However, currently if I go into my analytics I can see the RPM for each of my shorts and it varies significantly. Some have an RPM of $0.02 while other will have an RPM of $0.08. Which may not seem like that much of a difference, but I've already gotten nearly 100M views in Feb across my shorts, so the difference of a couple of cents per thousand views really adds up. I'm not mad... just confused. 😂🤣

KZfaq talks a big game about Shorts and Shorts only creators but honestly as a KZfaq shorts only creator 32:57 we do not see much implementation on the ground. To start with the KZfaq app itself is full of bugs. As of today, one can’t upload a short from the Android app with available music and be able to adjust the volume of the music being used. The iPhone app allows this but one can’t select a frame as Thumbnail which one can do on the Android app. The algorithm clearly favors already established creators. Our shorts seem to be throttled deliberately at a certain thousand views and it’s always the same, doesn’t seem to depend on engagement or anything like that. We have no idea what we are doing wrong, just pushing quality shorts consistently without seeing much results whatsoever is a bit disappointing and demotivating 😔

First off want to say that you guys do a great job and make great content. Here is a suggestion though - you guys should do a series maybe on this channel where you interview small or very small creators and get their perspective on things. I understand big creators bring the views but many of the people that watch are aspiring small creators and while it is nice to hear the success stories it is sometimes nice to hear the struggles and many of your viewers could relate more to the small creator struggle. It would also be nice if you could somehow convince some of your successful guest to talk through some of their analytics. We always hear good retention and click through but no one ever really tells us what a good CTR or retention is. Just think it would be interesting to really do a deep dive into the analytics of a few successful videos vs. a few unsuccessful ones to better understand. I mean there are some creators who dedicate content to that but they never really feature anyone like a MrBeast, Ryan Trahen, Airrack etc. They mostly focus on very specific niches instead of broad entertainers like that. Thanks!

My suggestion on making Shorts a green content is to make some sort of playlists for shorts as it is for long videos too, I really hope they work on it, because reels and tik toks dies after a while, but if youtube improved this it will have a bigger advantage over other platforms.

Great conversation guys. This answered a lot of questions I had about shorts versus typical content. The only question I would have drilled down on more would have been what constitutes a “view” because all of my research said that it was (30) seconds. I’ve noticed that ever since the “preview” option has been installed across the platform where when you hover over a video it begins to play you a preview of that video, so much that I’ve noticed that even if I don’t click on that particular video, just watching the preview then places that video in my watch history. I’ve timed several of these previews and on average they are 35 seconds. So does that count as a view? Even though they didn’t click on the video? Like I said it does show up in my watch history. If so does that effect CTR? And View duration? And if so os it the same for shorts?

I am a relatively small channel that had some explosive growth using KZfaq shorts. One of my biggest challenges is continuing to make long form content while pushing out shorts. On my channel, my long form content doesn't seem to get served to people who sub to my channel from shorts (90% of my subs are from shorts). My long form content seems to be on a completely separate algorithm. I'm at a point where I love making shorts but it doesn't seem to be profitable and also doesn't seem to actually grow my channel. These shorts subscribers are not watching my long form content. While new content creators will enjoy the high view counts on shorts, I wonder how helpful it actually is in comparison to focusing on only making longer form content. And to my situation-making shorts has become another time sink and can even detract from making the 'real' content.

37:12 A question I also had. I do make a curated condensed version of my long form videos often and would like to be able to link them up on KZfaq, but what I've shifted to is using the remix tool which only does the 15 second section (the condensed video goes on TikTok and IG Reels). I'd definitely like to know if or when I can do it so I can see if people prefer the remix or my custom edited condensed video instead.

I would love a world where creators were able to set up content-id to only take a percentage of the monetization rather than all of the monetization. That would pretty much end the debate about whether or not it's beneficial to have someone else react to it/remix it. Because then it'd essentially be the creator's choice to allow a split of revenue, meaning they'd be far more likely to be the one getting remixed/reacted to.

Great watch, thanks to everyone involved. Comment on Shorts potentially lowering CTRs for long form content wasn't really addressed. The guys mentioned long form creators with successful Shorts typically saw an increase in views which is great, but I think it's inevitable that CTRs were reduced on long form content. My understanding would be that long form creators who don't release Shorts would have an advantage regarding CTRs.

I would love to be able to choose the frame of my Short instead of the algorithm picking one with my eyes closed. I'm also not an Android guy so I can't currently do that now like they can. Thanks for a great discussion!

57:31 this needs to be like TikTok and reels where you can click on the comment to take you to the video where the comment was and show / notify the user. I’ve done it a few times to answer questions. Then have to go and share the vid link to the commenter as they don’t get notified

great to see this chat! I've been wondering though as the new shorts monetization has been put in place I (and probably VERY many others) have noticed that videos become ad limited extremely easily now. As a gaming creator that has done a ton of horror gaming content, 99% of my videos all immediately turn yellow (ad limited) even if they contain no shocking content, no swearing, or anything considered unacceptable within the rules of being ad friendly. While I can appeal these (and 100% of videos I've contested have been overturned back to ad friendly) it sometimes takes DAYS to get a live review. With how shorts work you sometimes get a huge initial boost in viewership while your video is still considered ad unfriendly and then days later when monetization for your video is turned back on, the video will be tapering off. From what I can tell this definitely hurts your earning capability as the revenue is NOT fixed retroactively on videos that are falsely considered unsafe for ads during their peak in viewership.

As of this instant 2/2/23 I’m showing a whopping $0.03 RPM from Shorts which totals an estimated payout of $0.08 for me over the last 28 days😂 But I’m going to make a ton more shorts this month so let’s see what happens

@@whatdoyouthinkk update 2/11/23 it’s now $0.05 But the somewhat obvious side benefit it’s that we are getting exposure to new audiences with shorts. So I’ve gotten a dozen new subs which is great
