If this project can somehow end up in the hands of Obsidian, or Xbox lends out an Obsidian helping hand, that would be a massive W.

Microsoft would seem to be a fit. Besides the funding, you also have Obsidian finishing work on Avowed, so maybe there is a chance for a collaboration like Crystal Dynamics/ The Initiative for Perfect Dark. The downside is that it could turn into an Xbox/PC exclusive where the story is a faithful remake that it should be on every platform.

I agree with you Matty. But legally Sabre can only “pitch” the project to another publisher. MS or another publisher may not even want to be bothered with them and go with their own In-house talent or another studio they have more confidence in.

This video spoke more to me on the fact this dude has been insane since day 1 with Fallout 4, than it was valuable as a video about the future of Kotor.

It'd be great if they rolled KOTOR 1 and 2 into one remake, and perhaps do some editing on the second KOTOR story to make it more relevant to the first game.

I recently bought an original Xbox and KOTOR on ebay because I never had any Xbox console and was curious. I was blown away. KOTOR instantly became one of my favorite RPGs in history, and that's after decades of only playing Nintendo and Sony consoles. The story and customization possible in that game are phenomenal. A superb cast of characters, and a variety of options for leveling up. The light side and dark side mechanics being linked to both the customizable story AND combat abilities is genius. I can think of fewer game franchises more worthy of being expanded bigger and given the next-gen treatment in a whole new game. Forget remakes. We need KOTOR 3.

If you haven't played the OG yet, you should check it out. One of the greatest rpgs ever, and a contender for the best star wars narrative.

I loved Knight of the old Republic as a kid, but I’ll tell you if this game is to come out or be remade I would love to see a rework of combat. That is the only thing I didn’t like about that game but I got over it real quick because it’s just an amazing Piece of digital art knights of the old Republic is one of the greatest games of all time

I didn't realize that people thought Aspyr got taken off because the game was bad. I remember when that news came out they were pretty clear that it was a timeline issue. The leak I had heard at the time was that they had been working on it for 2-3 years and had pretty much only developed Taris.

Personal opinion: Taris is the best planet in KOTOR. If we were force sensitive and had a light saber it would be amazing. Wish every planet was full of things going on like Taris. The Remake needs to be full on every planet.

I loved this game when it came out originally. I would love a remake that is true to it, and not have lots of added cut scenes and cinemas put in just to make it a Sony type game.

You know how they swapped out the more turn based esc inspired combat for more common place hack and slash action? Those kinda changes have a knock on effect and require entire environment changes for obvious gameplay reasons. Unrelated to that but I wonder If bg3 had them facepalm as they realised audiences actually can and do still want that sort of experience.

If you read Embracer's recent financial report, they explicitly mention that the game is still in development and will be published by Sony as a PS5 console exclusive (also released on PC). So, this idea that Sony is pulling out seems to be bs to me.

It’s actually crazy, the news of the remake vein dead has truly left me sad for the fans who have been waiting so long. I’ve never played it, but I just wish listed both 1 and 2 earlier today because I honestly don’t see the remake coming out, or at least any time soon.

The only remake I care about is one for Fallout 3 and Fallout new Vegas. I don’t mean a crappy rerelease like they do with Skyrim every couple months I mean a REEL remake

I just worry given a lot of modern day stuff that ends up in games. I'd love a remake but I don't want it to be "made for a modern audience" because that tends to mean being made for people who aren't even going to play it.

I've played KOTOR and 2, enjoyed the experience but wasn't "hooked" like other players, regardless I'm super glad the remake isn't dead yet. It's definitely a gaming staple for a lot of people and the StarWars franchise deserves a window back to the past successes. Looking forward to more positive updates in the future!

I'm old enough to have played KOTOR when it came out. I wonder how they can make the combat modern? I guess they would have to make it like Dragon Age but even that battle system is 10 years old.

Modern day xbox is not who I would want to tackle this game. They haven’t proved to me that they can deliver a truly great game since xbox 360. Larian is my choice to do Kotor but that’s just a dream.

Jeff Grubb looks really bad in this situation. He made a bold claim after the CEO of Embracer new the media would jump all over his quote. He then immediately had to backtrack and now Jason Schreirer is pretty much saying his claim is nonsense.

Historically sony has been spot on with what they choose to invest in. Them backing out of this makes me think this is a lost cause

I’m not an Xbox guy. Haven’t been since 360, and even then I was always more into PlayStation and Nintendo. This might be the one thing that could get me to buy an Xbox.

My only concern is the developers, Saber is known to make ambitious 7/10 or 6/10 games. Think Teyon with a budget.

It's funny there so much drama about this remake because it actually doesn't need a remake at all. Yes, some mechanics are a bit dated, but the game is so good as-is.

If only the world was more capable of working together using the full force of everyone's passion as opposed to purely monetary gain. One day, one day.
