This song was also ways playing on the jukebox in my parents’ restaurant when it came out (I was 5 years old). I was mad because this was one of the few 45s I didn’t get to keep when they rotated out songs. But I was immersed in music from my earliest years, and I count it a privilege.

Ah, this takes me back. This was the sort of thing my parents played on the radio when I was growing up. There was a lot of pop/country crossover in the 70s and 80s, so while Eddie was mainly classified as country, it wasn't as sharp a distinction then as it is now. He actually started off as a songwriter for others (including Elvis!) before deciding to get in front of the mic himself.

Saw Eddie live at county fair grandstand Hibbing Minnesota in the 70’s. Was a kid and snuck in with no money. I was surprised how good it was! I can still see him playing in my mind.

I love Eddie Rabbitt!!! I just got my driver's license around the time this song came on so used to blast it on the car radio feeling the freedom along with DRIVIN MY LIFE AWAY. Reminds me of the feeling of being young and free. Eddie Rabbitt is a Country artist. This song was a crossover in 1980-81.

This song, and Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," were my two favourite non-Country line-dancing tunes, back in the late 90s/early 00s... You two might enjoy "Boot Scootin' Boogie," too...

Girl you have the chair dance down!! Love it. Reminds me of when I was a teen dancing in the car, while doing chores, or with my baby sisters watching American Bandstand and Soul Train. I don't know when I stopped doing that. I know I'm trying to remember to do it again. It makes the music more fun.Im 65 and needed to be reminded. Thank you!!

Driving my Life Away and Hearts on Fire are really good songs from Eddie Rabbitt. He was very popular in the 70’s and 80’s. Rabbitt, a longtime smoker, died on May 7, 1998, in Nashville from lung cancer at the age of 56.
