We LOVE THIS About The PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭 The TRADITIONAL FILIPINO WAY

We've begun doing things the traditional Filipino way and to be honest, its one of the reasons why we really wanted to stay here and build a life. There's a great mindset here that allows you to feel like you have true freedom to make choices the way that suits you. We really love this about the Philippines and that ethos sits well with us.
Today J clears up some misconceptions about our 'new' old Toyota Corolla by explaining in detail why we did the things we did with it.
And Story and Sacha prepare a lovely traditional Filipino drink at home that blows our minds. We think we are going to love it here. :-)
This is the start of our story. Our 'New Normal' and new future. We are moving to the Philippines for a new start and this is day 69 of our Philippines Daily Vlog which will document what life is like for a British Family trying to work out life in this very exotic and beautiful country.
Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel's mum & Story's grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for over 3 months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.
Follow us on this journey :-)

It cost $164 for the parts and repair for your car. That’s very inexpensive considering what they did with what they have. Just like Cubans, they have to be resourceful in the islands to repair and maintain their vehicles. Those mechanics are also very honest, surely a fine Filipino trait. Enjoy your trip!

That was an awesome company slogan at the bottom of the receipt. Hahaha. Never heard that one before. Speaking from experience with my own car troubles, Pinoy mechanics are some of the most resourceful auto repair workers you'll find anywhere. Best regards.

We call that “sikwate” in Bisaya/cebuano, “tsokolate” in tagalog.. it’ll taste more local if you use “muscovado” sugar instead of the regular white sugar..

Was just feeling like something was amiss without your vlog... then I got notified! No skipping of ads for me. Love your channel! Much-needed good vibes. So agree with your decision to buy the car. Some people thoughtlessly throw in their unsolicited opinion without regard for context. The car is an essential and it's a smart decision all things considered (island living/limited access).

You can go it the filipino way: drive a motorbike with sidecar "tricycle", but a car is much more safe and don't get wet when there is a "down poor "!

In some regions of the Philippines, they make the native chocolate drink with coconut milk. It makes it rich and creamy, which might be to your liking. Traditionally, they use wood from a guava tree as batidor/batirol as it infuses flavor into the chocolate.

First time I've heard d of guava wood as batirol! In Leyte, we call the batirol 'moronillo' which I also made of wood but I have no idea what type is it.

Can't wait for you travel vlog. The chocolate "tableya"is very popular in the Phil's. Very common used is to mix with the sticky rice (non sweet) or what I do is mix it with my hot plain cereal for breakfast. Boil water first then drop the tableya then when its fully melted then drop the cereal and stir. Forgot to mention add sugar. Glad to see Story having fun with the face shield. See you in your next vlog, can't wait! 🌺🐓

Traditionally, with some familes in old Manila, crushed peanuts is indeed added to the tablea chocolate, in celebrating Christmas eve or morning. It is also traditionally indulged in with your choice of bibingka, puto bungbung, suman, etc and as you mentioned, is also great with pandesal, dipped or dunked the traditional Filipino way. Hehehe. The peanuts is sometimes replaced with cachew nuts. Have a great day, guys. And please give Story a tight and warm hug for us. I, too, never imagined that that spanner would do great as a holder for the whisker. In fact i thought one would whisk with the spanner. Bright girl!!!

Thank you for explaining your thoughts, your feelings and your concerns. Everything's good and I know you make good decisions. Why do you think Story is smart? "Tablea" chocolates are very good and yes, it is most of the time a Christmas drink. My mom would prepare it hot for "noche buena" and "medya noche." Every lolas, titas or nanays have their on way of doing it but your version looks good, with the peanut butter. Yum! Safe travels. Hope all the paper works with be good and enjoy your vacation. Hey J, before, I had same car as yours, a toyota corolla 1991 and it has a unique name tag as "small body". Anyway, yours is a ae92 body, 4e engine and a carburator type. The 4E is a 1.3 L (1,331 cc) DOHC version. Bore and stroke is 74 mm × 77.4 mm (2.91 in × 3.05 in). Output ranges from 74 hp (55 kW; 75 PS) at 6,400 rpm to 99 hp (74 kW; 100 PS) at 6,600 rpm with 81 lb⋅ft (110 N⋅m) of torque at 3,600 rpm to 86 lb⋅ft (117 N⋅m) of torque at 4,000 rpm. It has a strong body unlike cars today that can easily bend.
