Will micro glass beads work with this? From what I understand there are several size grades.
@MaxGiganteum
@MaxGiganteum 5 ай бұрын
@@tikkidaddy Whatever you use for media must generally be harder than that which you wish to etch for the effect to occur. In the examples shown, glass beads would work on wood but most likely wouldn't do much to a drinking glass due to both materials being close to the same hardness. Yes, the material itself does influence whether or not it will "cut" or otherwise erode another material but the hardness of the material is the main factor. At the end of the day, if in doubt? Test it out! Best wishes! - Max Giganteum

Thanks for the inspiration guys! I made a set of custom engraved glasses for my mother this year for christmas. While testing with a jar i found you get better results with electrical tape instead of duct tape. This is my advice for anyone wanting to try sandblasting. Again thanks for the idea.

@nicholasrohde771
@nicholasrohde771 5 жыл бұрын
The sand is travelling parallel to the walls of the tube. When the sand hits a surface perpendicular to its velocity, all of the sand's energy is being put into the object and it chips away small pieces, but when the sand lightly skims across a surface parallel to its velocity, barely any energy is put into it, and the surface won't be chipped away, so I think the inner walls of the air gun will be fine for quite a long time.

For how simple it is, I appreciate it. I don't use this for decorative purposes, I use it to prepare metal for welding on SMAW or MIG outfits. But I did cave and use some to help etch into surface-brazed metal, and it does work quite well. Industrial quartz sand is what I use for this, and what most sandblasting equipment uses when involved in metal prep for welding.

We get to see a rare, extensive look at the wild KZfaqr in it's natural habitat. As you can see, it notices the camera, and basically coexists alongside it, but doesn't really care who is documenting them... which is strange, because they also notice people have "budgets" and care that they want to spend less doing neat creative stuff, barring the fact they're lying to our faces without ever being near them. Nature is a wonderful place! too bad this is the internet

If you don't have access to finer sand and want to sandblast wood, I'd recommend using a harder wood such as pine or oak. Basswood (pronounced like the bass fish, not base) is a very soft wood that is used often in the woodcarving community for its softness.

Go pick up a cheap smaller compressor at Lowe’s. Or harbor freight. Or really anywhere that sells tools. You don’t need a huge one like they had. I have a compressor at home, it needs fixed but we have one. We also have a small one meant for tires that doesn’t have a tank. But that won’t work for this application.

To all of you that are saying "but you still need an air compressor". Air compressors are a fairly common "must have" for a do-it-yourselfer. If you dont have one, get one. You're missing out on a ton of awesome projects, and at very least, it's one of a few basics you'll need to be able to make nice diy stuff. Besides, if you buy an air tool, you still need an air compressor. Pretty standard practice...

Seriously, everyone needs an air compressor. Its like number 4 on the list of tools all adults need. It goes multi-head screw driver, Cordless drill, ratchet set and then air compressor. It doesn't need to be a huge one like they had in the video. Get a cheap pancake one that can drive some nails, fill up some tires and blast air(and sand) where you need it
