Sometimes Jonny reminds me so much of Eugene in these types of videos and I like that. Like, they're totally different people with their own strengths, personalities, and accomplishments, but when Jonny started saying how bad he was at drawing while cassually drawing something awesome.... And how chaotic he is and his creative skills in general... he brings some of the same vibes to the party. Hope he can realize how awesome he is. Those drawings were Q.U.A.L.I.T.Y. Like wow. If you told me they were done by an actual comic artist, I would have believed you.

For people who want EVEN MORE in-depth introduction to, and vocabulary/outlines for, pictorial storytelling in history and comics/graphic novels as a format, see Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics. I read it in grad school, in lieu of a genre study of Western comics and graphic novels, and it was one of my favorite books I read for that class. Fun fact: comics/graphic novels as an art form and storytelling medium, as we know it, is only about 100 years old. It's so great that the guys made a comic for Zach, who could not be there in person. I really hope they do another cartooning/comic drawing episode with Zach in it.

I'm only just starting this video, but I think they're going to absolutely crush it. I think the most important thing to understand with comics is that "the ability to draw" actually has nothing to do with how pretty your work is, it's a measure of how well your audience can read what you want them to from each panel and how easy your characters/settings are to reproduce over and over. It's definitely a PLUS if it's beautiful, but as long as you can get high emotions and blocking down with clearly defined shapes to differentiate your characters, you could populate your comic with stick figures and scribbles and you'd be fine.

Japanese comic (manga) and webtoon translator here This has been such a blast lol It's so fun to see the guys try to figure their way through a cohesive story The "Kaplow" murdered me. I was like- wait, I don't remember ever using Kaplow in a comic...is it supposed to be "Kapow"?? The next time there's a fighting scene, I'll try to use "kaplow" :'D
