Zlatopolsky with some cavernous D1s at 1:47 and the end of this piece. This D is an octave lower than Osmin's D--the lowest note in the standard opera repertoire. "We magnify, we magnify Thee" from the Matins service.

he had an amazing vocal range, he could sing in the high baritone register with the same power as his low range

@@trevorhannon900 But a true baritone can sing even higher than Zlatopolsky could comfortably. Many baritones may start out not hitting anything above C4 in chest when they begin singing, but they will be expected to eventually hit a G4 note just fine with enough practice. Of course almost no baritones will be hitting a G4 all the time 24/7 when singing unlike many tenors, but they can go higher than we often think they can. Of course, don't get me wrong, for an extremely low-pitched basso profondo like Zlatopolsky an E4/F4 is very impressive. Other basso profondos would have struggled a lot more with those notes I think. But it's still nothing compared to an actual baritone.

I was looking for a cd with that recording, but couldn`t find anything. Zlatopolski even doesn´t have a German Wikipedia entry.

This is the Magnification of the Nativity of Christ sung following the polyeleos psalm during Matins (in the case of great feasts it is part of the All-night Vigil). "Величаем Тя, Живодавче Христе, нас ради ныне плотию Рождшагося от Безневестныя и Пречистыя Девы Марии."
