Steve Matthes: “I don’t know why people call me, ‘the bad media guy.’” Also Steve: “if you want a foreign media guy, I’ll put on a fake British accent and you can get your info from me.” Hahaha. Absolutely awesome stuff for Jase and well done how he handled the discussion. Also great stuff from the PulpMX team. Steve sucks, but you guys always have some cool topics and people on the show. Wish you guys all the best. 👍🏻🏁🖤

I am a aussie fan of both pulp and gypsy, they both have diffrent angles, but you have to APPRECIATE that steve was a factory mechanic for years.. knows the sport,bikes,teams,sponsors better than the current riders in the series😂 but you have to APPRECIATE what gypsy has done, there has been notthing close to as far as a inside scoop amd genral down to earth interviews with gypsy.

Great stuff! I have been a fan of Pro motocross since I first found out what it was as a 9 year old kid in 1977. I haven’t thrown a leg over a MX bike and raced since 1989, but i am NOT into football, baseball, basketball… I cannot identify with any of those pro sports as entertainment. So, I follow Motocross, WRC and some other car/bike racing, but especially Motocross. Im just a fan now. I have to say, having the amount of media dedicated to the sport as we now do is fantastic. When I was a kid, it was almost exclusively magazines and the occasional token TV coverage, VHS tapes in the 80’s and 90’s…. But now🤯🤯🤯🤯. It’s great. To have Gypsy Tales and Pulp, Hopper, et Al… fantastic! And even though I’m too old and damaged to ride anymore, I love it as much as I did when I was a kid. I can relate to it, to the riders, the riding, racing… all of it. Being a non-riding fan is a strange thing, I never could have conceived of it back when I was actually racing. It’s just that it’s a hell of a lot more interesting than baseball.

I would assume that the Yamaha tests probably came from the fact that Josh Hill was attached at the hip with Jason Lawrence at the time rather than from what Matthes wrote. Wasn't Josh with Lawrence when he rolled a rental car at a race? How could you get mad when the media had some questions. As cliche as it is you are the company you keep.

Jase's interviews are excellent because he gets his guests to open up and the focus in always on them, their story and what makes them tick. Matthes' show is 10% useful content, 20% ads and the rest is mostly circling the conversation back to be about him. Christ he describes himself on his website as a "shit talker" then he continually takes offense when folks call him out for talking shit. I only listen to the race review pods anymore to get Weege's insight as most the rest is irrelevant bickering between Matthes and JT. Well done Jase. As for Steve...meh...

Mathes just doesn't get it. I watch him sometimes but too much opinion and not enough guest opinion. Let people be people. It's like having a C level rider commenting on the pro guys. Josh Hill is the man and that was a dig to his character. This is 2021 let people do things. Good job having Gypsy on though👍
@dougdickason
@dougdickason 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree, and I applaud Matthes for inviting someone on who had been critical of his reporting. Technically Matthes never said Josh smoked weed, and Matthes could have said one inference of calling Josh and JLaw Cheech and Chong was that they were two dudes that did their own thing, it's not just only about pot, and in a court of law, that inference about weed would be denied. Then Jase later says that Josh through sick parties. Why isn't that almost as bad? What can you infer from a factory rider who throughs sick parties? How about he doesn't take his factory ride serious enough, he is not living up to his contract, he is not a role model for the sport etc. So you can't criticize Steve for Cheech and Chong comment and also say Josh through sick parties. To me it's worse knowing he though sick parties than being called Cheech and Chong.

@@dougdickason lol this isn't court. Mathes should Mind his business, also calling out johnny Hopper. Mathes doesn't know whether or not they are swapping parts. Literally Davy Millsaps admitted to it..
@dougdickason
@dougdickason 2 жыл бұрын
@@DualsportDisport I know it's not court, thanks. I'm saying his comment wasn't legitimately a stab at Josh like Jase said it was. So, you are in the group that thinks Kawasaki is not giving Tomac the goods? Also, Millsaps didn't want the parts that JGR made for James, and Matthes went over that in the podcast. Why do you think Matthes should mind his business, where did he get into someone's business?
@DualsportDisport
@DualsportDisport 2 жыл бұрын
Armchair quarterback! Some people ride better that way, let them ride how they want.
@dougdickason
@dougdickason 2 жыл бұрын
@@DualsportDisport you write in incomplete sentences, almost like a code, and it's hard to understand what you mean. You said "Armchair quarterback," which I guess you are calling Matthes, but so is Hopper and Jase, or anyone that states an opinion about someone else's performance. Then you said 'some people ride better that way, let them ride how they want.' Who are you talking about and who are you saying isn't saying they shouldn't ride that way (whatever way it is you are referring to.). Like Matthes said, do you really think Kawasaki wasn't giving Tomac what he needed to win? If you believe that, it shows how little you know how the world works in general and race teams, specifically. The main motivation for a race team is to win and provide that performance for their brand and their sponsor. To undermine a rider by not giving him the equipment to win because he won't be on the team next year (repeat: NEXT year) is really ignorant. Hurting Tomac this year by "getting even with him for not signing after this year" by not giving him equipment to win now doesn't even make sense. Doing that only hurts Kawasaki. How does it hurt Tomac? He's getting his salary for one and he is signed for multi years after this year with another team. He could get last every race and he will have a big fat factory ride on the hottest team in the sport next year. Now it makes sense for Kawasaki to give Tomac all the help he needed to win this year, for one, to satisfy their sponsors, and two, to show that Tomac leaving isn't because he didn't have a bike that could win. If they would have undermined Tomac by not giving him the equipment to win, it makes Kawasaki look like a bad brand and gives the look that Tomac is leaving because his bike sucks.

I like Jase's podcast but he has a bit of a know it all, higher than all attitude about some things, like judging Matthes and calling him out for it to which I think Matthes handled it well. Jase defends Josh and calls out Steve and then on the other hand says Hill through sick parties, so he is talking out of both sides of his mouth. And hanging out with JLaw reminds me of what my grandma told me when I started running with a rough crowd, she said "you play with shit, you get it on you," not saying JLaw is that, but you are perceived by who you associate with.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't motogp yamaha giving rossi a factory spec Petronas bike while Franco had to rock with the best Petronas could put together? Didn't bullfrog Honda give 1 dude a 21 crf450 when the rest of the team had to roll with the 20 due to availability of parts during this last supercross season? It happens man, the more you deny it the more it makes it seem like you're trying to join with the system that wants it to remain hidden. And, the fact that Davi came on and just spilt that out when he was teammates with stew and you don't even acknowledge it is pretty avoidish. Not saying I care or anything, but since we are talking facts on the motonews channel and all... let the facts free.

I lost interest in Mathes and his show about a year ago. I just dont think he is a good person. Biased, hypocritical, in no way deserving of his "position" in moto. He pays or gets paid by a dozen or so cronies who seem to nod and smile and agree with most of the BS that spews from his mouth. most riders are forced for whatever reason to appear on his show. Is painfully obvious. I dont listen to Jase, but...he called Steve out multiple times, and that visibly bothered Mathes.

I generally like both shows, but I feel Steve has a very inflated sense of self at times. The conversation about Josh Hill where Josh’s life was directly affected by something said on this show was straight childish. Then to turn around and play the “professional journalist” role when it comes to the Johnny Hopper convo just because he got some questions about the Eli video and he didn’t like that it directly affected his life in a completely insignificant way. Glad you didn’t have to go piss in a cup because of that Johnny Hopper video
