Nah man, it's not tokenism. People should be making a conscious effort to diversify their lineups (especially in a scene where POC/women/LGBT typically don't get the same opportunities or exposure). They're not gonna be put on those tours just to diversify the lineup, they'll be put on those tours cos they're amazing bands - and there's really no excuse not to, since there's countless excellent artists who are women/NB/POC/LGBT. Plus, putting more marginalised artists out there will A) give confidence to people who don't usually feel represented in that scene to get involved and start their own band and B) change the shitty preconceptions, conscious or not, of people who don't usually consider marginalised artists. People can't say 'oh, there's just not enough female artists in the scene' whilst simultaneously denying them that platform. They're there, y'all just aren't looking hard enough. It's an important conversation to have and I'm glad you addressed it

a bands music should always have significance over any social agenda. once bands like glassjaw start pandering to having diverse lineups just for the sake of diverse lineups... they lose all credibility in my opinion.
