when we had a mass event in nz, the media was banned from saying his name and the prime Minister jacinda adern refused to say his name in public. she wanted to give him no fame, instead she concentrated all her energy on the victims and their names. absolutely brilliant. to this day i don't know his name and have no desire at all in finding out. he deserves no noteriety at all

And yet PM Jacinda Ardern is still being crucified by the gun lobbyists, hunters, farmers and pretty much anyone who owns a gun, for reforming gun laws. Gun owners are a dangerous breed.

Thats one thing i hate about american news, 20mins after something like this happens and their entire sob story is broadcast everywhere when they should remain un named and forgotten, even in terror attacks they do the same thing, Give out their name and their whole life story and broadcast their face everywhere and gives them their martyrdom, but then they wont make any money milking the news story for months after an event happens and fuel more political arguments so i doubt jack squat will change anytime soon

@The Stonefish well yes what could realistically be done? Taking away/banning guns would be a direct violation of the constitution. The man was dead before he could be detained so they couldn't charge him for any crimes, and hotels have improved their security in response to this to decrease the likelihood of this occurring again. All in all there isn't much that the president could do in this situation except offer his condolences to those effected and try to offer some kind words. It's much better than false promises or attempting to take away from those who have done no wrong.

RIP Common Sense!! As a Canadian, I was well aware of the US gun laws when I moved to Phoenix, Az, in 2000. What caught me off guard as I walked into a bank (of America) which kept the teller safely behind four inches of plexiglass, for fear of being held up by a potential shooter. Behind the teller, high up on the wall was a big sign that read to the effect that if you opened an account with them, you could be in ownership of any one of the five handguns displayed, as a thank you for your business. The teller noticed me reading the banner and asked if I was interested in opening an account with them... I looked at her and stated I would need a bank with better sense at it's helm, as any bank that gave away guns, was far too goofy to be handling my money! I say BRING BACK COMMON SENSE, before it escapes us completely and is only regaled thru whispers of better days filled with logic and efficiency!!

I very much enjoy playing with firearms, but it was the stupidity of walking into that bank and seeing the huge banner behind the teller offering a free gun (There was 5 or 6 to choose from) for opening a first time bank account (Some restrictions would apply, of course). The bank was somewhere near 19th and Northern, in Phoenix, October 2000. Oh hey, Princess - the next time you want to argue, try a subject on which you know something about. Like... kneepads😘😎

If a bank is going to give you a pistol, they aren't going to give it away on the spot. You would have to pick it up at a Federaly licensed gun shop (FFL), fill out paper work and pass a background check. If you have any criminal history you will be denied ownership of the pistol and it will be on your record that you tried to purchase a gun. If there are 2 banks im choosing to go too, and I have the ability to know there are 4 armed citizens in one bank and 0 armed citizens in the other, I'm going to the one with 4 armed citizen. If a bank robber with a gun shows up with the intent to kill everyone in the bank and rob the place, 4 guys living their everyday lives that carry a gun on them are going to do everything they can do to not be killed (i would hope) and protect others inside that are innocent and unarmed. 4 good guys with guns vs 1 bad guy with a gun are better odds than me choosing the other bank and there being 1 bad guy with a gun and a bunch of people not being able to stop him. Gun control shouldn't be control the guns. As much as I hate to admit it, if a criminal is gonna get a gun he will get a gun. I'm 100% anti gun control and gun banning, and I personally believe everyone should carry a gun. But if there was a gun control law that would 100% take away all guns, but also would 100% stop any criminal from getting a gun and nobody ever died due to a gun again, I would vote for that law. Our English friend here even said it himself there are 6 guns for every 100 people in the Uk, and if that statistic is accurate thats still over 600,000 guns in the UK that the government knows about, not the ones they dont. And people still die in the Uk every year due to gun violence, and that's not good enough for me.

Yes we do but its become a pathology in the right, I'm a veteran, I have shot most varieties atleast once, mini gun is a helluva alot of fun, but the huge gun show loopholes along with SHITFUCK parenting are always responsible for this shit. I had weapons classes (hunters safety) in grade (primary) school, we brought weapons and the local sheriffs taught us weapon safety. It was better, honestly tho these days gun violence is the least of our worries, I so scared and ashamed for my nation.

Me and my family watched a news report about the Las Vegas shooting about a week after it happened. They showed videos of Trump commenting on the whole thing, and my dad got so angry that he walked out of the room. He called Trump very pretty words that day. Even my grandfather(who btw is for having guns and wish we could have them at home) said that it was stupid that gun laws weren't discussed. I live in Sweden, we have pretty strict gun laws(not even the military are allowed to have their guns at home anymore, after an incident in 2006. I remember dad having his AK at home when I was younger, but he had to hand it in in 2006) and even if this didn't happen in Sweden it still hit pretty hard. I don't understand how people can think it's a good idea to have that many guns when this many horrific things happen. The fact that there are more mass shooting a year than there are days is just horrifying.

Governments inevitably become corrupt that has been the pattern....what happens then?......a disarmed populace have no way of removing a tyrant unless they have access to armaments.... You can see this in the UK and US....essentially the govt does as it pleases.... MOST people although the media says the opposite because it is now a branch of government WANT ALIEN IMMIGRATION TO BE HALTED.....but the government ignores them except at election time where they promise the public to stop it....BUT NEVER DO!!. Western countries are largely ruled over by a "certain ethnicity ".....who control Finance, media and the internal secret police who are never called that..... They did this to Russia post 1917 now theyre doing it to the West. Russel is a weird looking creepy geek.

I know this is a bit of a divergence but a lot of this stems from how America was set up from its inception as a nation. American people are afforded freedoms and everything not covered is illegal that is why historically they hang on to them so fiercely. In the UK we are technicaly free to do as we please unless it is on the list as illegal. It is a subtle difference that has perpetuated a mind set for a couple of hundred years. In the UK the emphasis and ownace is very much on the responsibility of the individual to act rationally and keep themselves and others safe. That is why killing an intruder is illegal, because rationally this is a disproportionate response to a break in. In the US though you have the legal freedom/right (however you phrase it) to defend your property, so that action is justified. It is also reflected in the classic jaywalking in the states, no one really thought about it and thus it isn't afforded in your freedoms and so it is illegal, where as in the UK no one bothered to think about it so it is just your responsibility to do it in a way that doesn't get you and others killed.

The thing that always makes me laugh about this is that you will hear countless Americans say "Well you have so many stabbings in the UK, so how is it safer....if someone comes at me with I knife I'd shoot them because of the second amendments I'm safer".....My answer to that pile of excrement for an arguement is....1. You cannot stab someone 30-40 times a second, you can however shoot someone that many times. 2. You need to be closer to someone to stab them so you get more of a chance to either stop them or fight them off. You can be hundreds of feet away with any fire arm!!!. 3. The criminal element wouldnt have knifes if there are ample guns available so the end of your statment is moot. There is a reason that criminals here have a large number of knives...they are a damn site easier to get hold of! As Russ said in the video, there are more gun shops than McDs and Supermarkets combined....when its easier to get a weapon than it is to get food you have a massive bloody problem.

The comment about other people having guns to stop a mass shooting never occurs. The recent video of a mass shooting in Queens shows that people panic upon hearing shooting, they run from the sound of gunfire, not towards it…

@@SharienGaming "how many have been stopped due to an armed civilian?" Thats an unanswerable question. But, many, many, many, shootings, robberies, rapes, and other types of assaults DONT happen because the criminal knows their potential victim is armed. "How many unarmed people have been killed by armed civilians?" Far too many. Damn near every gangster is armed, while your average joe, isnt. But how many of those killings are committed with ILLEGAL guns? "Of the armed civilians killing unarmed people, how many faced actual consequences.....? Damn near all of them. Why do you think the prisons are so full? If an armed civilian goes into a bank to rob it, and ends up killing someone, you can bet your ass that, if caught, he's going to prison. Hells bells man, in Atlanta, a COP shot and killed an armed suspect and the states attorney filed murder charges AGAINST THE COP!!!! As I stated earlier, they can pass all thr gun laws they want, they won't work. Heroin, cocaine, meth, they're all illegal, and look at the drug problem in this country. Prohibition worked like a charm back in the 1920s didnt it? All that accomplished was getting people killed, and made millionaires out of the gangsters. And the same damn thing will happen if they outlaw guns.

@@patrickturner2417 so you are saying you cant answer how often armed civilians have helped, but that armed civilians causing harm is rampant? want to take a stab at the problem there? and on that atlanta cop - im willing to bet those murder charges are entirely justified simply based on how the US police operates on your prisons - want to know why your prisons are so full? because you keep incarcerating people for being poor, for minor drug possession like marijuana and of course for the "crime" of being black on the topic of drugs - a lot of opiate addiction problems stem from a combination of rampant poverty and your pharma companies massively pushing prescriptions of pain relief medication, which cause addictions to those meds... which when no longer available due to poverty switched to the next thing that was available and could alleviate it: heroin and other opiate drugs - theres a lot of good reading out there on who caused the opioid epidemic and how it happened if youre interested and on facing consequences? there have been a significant number of people (predominantly white) who shot people and faced no consequeces - most famously was a guy who went out of his home and shot people in the back on someone elses property after being repeatedly told by police on the phone to wait for them to arrive and to not go out there - no consequence at all your country has more guns than people - if your thesis was correct, it would have been proven after the decades of gun death if your thesis was correct you wouldnt need to train CHILDREN on what to do when an "active shooter" is around the entire world including the us have comprehensively proven that the thesis of "more guns = more safety" is thoroughly wrong the safest places in the world are those with fewer guns and more importantly - without a culture that idolizes killing tools but sure - you keep shilling for a massive industry built on death and destruction that massively enriches a few bastards on the perpetuation of human misery around the globe if thats your thing

I'm a UK licenced gun owner and I have to say our licencing laws definitely work. We've proved that with only 3 shooting incidents involving licenced owners in 25 years. However, I don't believe that would work as well in America as there are just too many unlicenced guns in the country. If they bought in our laws over night, there would be a good 10 to 15 years of hell where every criminal had a free for all, before they slowly started whittling down the illegally held firearms.

In Ireland it's almost impossible to get a firearms licence. The rules, laws, applications, endorsements, legislation make it one of the toughest places on earth to obtain firearm. Thank fuck too. Not once in Ireland or the UK have I ever thought about the possibility of being shot. Our laws and the UK's work.

@@MolloyPolloy self defence is not the only reason to own a firearm. Sporting and pest control reasons have similar requirements in Ireland to the UK. The only difference is that in Ireland you technically can have one for self defence but as you say its very difficult to obtain.
