A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores the relationship between a mother and her evil son. Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller).
Eva and Kevin begin their strained relationship literally from birth. At 15 years old, Kevin escalates the stakes when he commits a horrifying act, leaving Eva to grapple with her feelings of grief and responsibility, as well as the ire of the community-at-large. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva's own culpability is measured against Kevin's innate evilness. Ramsay's masterful storytelling simultaneously combines a provocative moral ambiguity with a satisfying and compelling narrative, which builds to a chilling, unforgettable climax.

Celia is resilient. She loses an eye and still manages to find joy and be loving. Kevin thought that their love for her lay in her appearance. He doesn't understand that it's her young and feminine soul. And that he squandered his youth getting attention by being obnoxious. And that her missing eye might make kids be meaner to her, but her OWN parents will just shower her with more love. He doesn't understand human emotions. At all.

@@diobrando5549 There are people commenting that just always wanted her attention and is misunderstood. Though I think he's mother is the catalyst of his illness. Even as an unreliable narrator she's abusive, solipsistic, and long suffering. I saw everything I needed to see when she parked his stroller by a jackhammer. Then tells the doctor years later "I thought he might have deafened himself with his own crying." Whoops, let's not forget the concussive brain injury of being 7 inches from a jackhammer as a nursing infant.

@@kanscopeichel491 Yes. To start with, Kevin was welcomed into the world by his mother’s rejection of him in the hospital room, and Celia was welcomed into the world by her cuddles. Stark difference. And when Kevin was around 8 years old, he told his mother that he felt that she did not like him (while breaking crayons), and she never corrected him…nor did she ask why he was breaking crayons. She never attempted to get to the heart of the matter…on anything. She never asked the important questions.

I think the fact that alot of the attention shifted to Celia from Kevin just fueled his psychopathic tendencies.

He knew Celia was Eva's favorite and was jealous because of it. Was jealous of Frank as well. In the end he got what he wanted but prison is going to break him long before he can actually get to having Eva to himself.

Opaque Anity hey I’ve seen the film and it was incredible but I wanna know, what do you mean ‘jealous of Frank’ ? And why do you think he wanted Eva to himself? A lot of people say it might be because he wanted the love and attention from Eva but some say he just wanted Eva to feel alone, the way she made him feel alone.

Dream Cardigan true about him being a sadist and loving the thrill of only her knowing who he truly was. I was wondering why he covered for her when she broke his arm. Then again, he might’ve done that to have leverage over her.

Oh God... this is the morning of the day when Kevin kills everyone. The crossbow, arrows and bike locks are in that bag; that's why it's so heavy. This is the last time that Eva sees Celia and Franklin alive.
