Kuzy just didn't seem to Get It. It was painfully clear that he couldn't/wouldn't adapt to Tocchet's rather successful overall plan for the team. @@grahammcfadyenhill9555 It seemed to me like he was fighting his instincts all the way this year. A great analysis of the trade. I am still pretty mixed on this trade as a longtime Canucks fan. While I love the prospects of the Canucks with Lindholm in the lineup, I am wondering if the Canucks gave up too much for what may only be a short-term rental. They say the sign of a good trade is when both sides are left reeling wondering wtf. This trade certainly meets that criteria. Much love, respect, and best wishes to Kuzmenko in his hockey future with Calgary for his positivity and positive contributions to the Canucks during their tumultuous last season.

As a Canucks fan while the price here is definitely a steep one I am still think it's a win win for both teams. Calgary gets draft picks, including a first round pick and prospects and a guy in Kuzmenko who did have 39 goals last year for a guy in Lindholm who wasn't going to stay in Calgary. So Calgary gets off to a solid start in their rebuild or retool. As for Vancouver they get what they were looking for. Which is a top six forward that can play both center and on the wing. I think Lindholm will most like play alongside Pettersson and be the center while Pettersson moves to the wing. So overall I think both teams did well here.

Good trade. As a Flames fan I think it’s win-win. Lindholm wasn’t effective and wasn’t sticking around, but could rebound in the right environment. Calgary is in what I would call a soft-rebuild. I think from a Canucks perspective. This is an over payment for a rental, but this makes the Canucks honestly one of the best top contenders in the NHL. And there is no reason that perhaps he will walk, if he thinks this team is ready to go he could resign for a more affordable deal. The first rounder, hopefully it's 32nd overall ;) Hunter was rumored to not want to be in the Canucks organization, and there was a big reason he dropped to the 3rd round. He has big enough weaknesses in his game. He's young, but we sold high on him. Jurmo was never really going to make a difference in the next year or 2 for the Canucks organization, and he has enough value the Canucks figure they can live with moving him. And Kuzmenko was not working in this system. He needed a change, and I think he'll do well in a Flames uni. And one thing a lot of people are not talking about in this deal, which I think is a large reason why the price tag seems so high. Kuzmenko makes 5.5m on the cap NEXT season, we don't have to pay that anymore. We got 5.5m in extra cap for 24/25 to work with, sign Petey, Hronek, Zadorov, Lindholm. The world is our oyster.

If given a big enough kitchen to cook, he can be very impressive and fun to watch. Kuzmenko can be a master with the puck. Finisher and underrated passing skills as well. This was a down year/sophomore slump type deal but also he had the shortest leash from coach Tocchett, hence he was scared to play because he didn’t want to be benched. We’re going to miss him in Van city, he was one of the fan favourites and a very likeable guy. I think he’ll do well with a new coach and new rank among forwards. With Elias Lindholm, Vancouver got a valuable player who fits their needs, while Calgary avoided watching another valuable UFA walk into the sunset come the off-season. A multiple asset return gives the Flames' organization a lot to work with now and over the next few years. I'm leaning towards thinking that Calgary won this trade but only time and how useful those incoming assets are will tell the full story. Meanwhile, if Lindholm is an integral part of a long Canuck's playoff run, the pendulum swings back towards Vancouver winning this trade. Considering that this is new GM Craig Conroy's first major deal and it dealt with the potential loss of a UFA for nothing, I think he did very well.

"Patrik All-in" Lindholm is a two time Selke nominated player and is much more complete than Kuzy. I don't think Kuzy, even if he found his offense again was ever going to truly fit into Toc's system. With the re-emergence of Boeser, we have plenty of scoring. We got another two way, right handed forward with experience and offensive ability. Jurmo will never see NHL ice, 4th round pick is irrelevant, Brus is a third round pick who's having a great year but statistically unlikely to play major NHL minutes or games, so really it's Kuzy and a LATE 1st. Chances of getting an impact player after the first 15 or so picks is unlikely. This is a good trade and immediate makes the team better and more complete Prospects like Willander and Pettersson are more likely to make the team than Brus which makes him expendable. Don't forget the names Sawyer Mynio and Kirill Kudryavtsev as D prospect to watch.

I think Vancouver is still a very young team with minimal playoff experience, although they are absolutely killing it this year they still need to learn playoff hockey, it’s two completely different games in my opinion. For example The Penguins in their prime had trouble getting to the finals after their 2009 win over Detroit. It was 7 long years of disappointment until they won back to back in 2016 & 2017 even the best in hockey still had to learn playoff hockey. Im not doubting Vancouver but I’m not saying they’ll be cup contenders either. Boston last year is a great example of that. I’m rooting for all Canadian teams this year after the Oilers of course.

1:17 Yeah, see I was initially a bit shocked at what the Canucks gave up for one player who wasn't even leading their team in scoring, but then I thought about where the Flames are sitting in actual scoring. They have no players who are a point per game, and the only player who is even close is Coleman. On the Canucks (as of Feb 1st), Coleman would be 4th in goals and 5th in points if he were on the Canucks roster. And Huberdeau is still embarrassingly way down their scoring list. There's a guy who probably misses his previous team... I also had to pause to consider where that 1st round pick would be.. Might as well be called a second round pick the way things are going in Vancouver. Kuzmenko was clearly never going to understand what Tocchet wanted out of him. Most of his success came under Boudreau, whose coaching style was much different. Yes, he kept scoring under Tocchet last season, but that was before the new system truly got locked in place. A change of coaches will probably be good for him. And on a team with less scoring depth, he might find himself having fun again. Meanwhile Lindholm will be surrounded by superior talent and as mentioned early in the video, he tends to thrive with a good crew around him. Good for Pius Suter as well, because now he can steadily help drive that 3rd line with Garland and Joshua. Tocchet has been trying to roll four lines and this will really help. Glad they didn't give up Hoglander as well, because I don't think he has peaked yet. 1:53 Exactly. He's probably going to have fun in Calgary and forget all about that no-trade list. Heck, he might even want to say, if he's thriving. As a Canucks fan, obviously I want the Canucks to win this trade, but if the trade means a stronger top six and more success, fine. My biggest worry is that Hunter DOESN'T top out as a career AHLer.. lol. 2:26 Red Wings have a bit of a history of great drafting though. I say we let this trade play itself out for a while before judging. There are a lot of moving parts involved. To hell with the trade deadline, right Patrik? It's go time. lol (great video btw)

Canucks won big because they didn't have to give up players like Podkolzin, Lekkerimaki or Willander. ONE of these players had to go over to Calgary and they didn't get one of them. For you Calgary fans I would be disappointed, this should of been doable since the Canucks were all in. Its amazing the Canucks were able to keep these guys.

Hunter OHL d=man is the only really dangerous part of this trade--don't think he's a Hughes or Makar but that's the risk.No matter what the Canucks got the exact guy they needed so one would expect a little bit of extra sauce going Calgary's way.As well Conroy (who was always a classy dude) is impressing me and even as a Canucks fan I wish the Flames Jets Sens well .Let's go Canucks 4th time lucky

This is a win on both sides. Van: gets a top 6 guy who makes them better right now. As a Vegas fan, van is pretty good. I didn’t think barbashev would make a huge difference and looked what happened. Only way it turns bad is if lindholm is shit. Calgary wins regardless cause that’s the best return you could’ve gotten from a player who was no longer in there future plans

As a Nucks fan, it’s a win/win. Kuzmenko and the assets were providing basically zero value to the Canucks current roster. So they basically trade no value for immediate value by filling their greatest need. That said, if they don’t resign Lindholm, the flames win it for sure.
@SaintMartins
@SaintMartins 4 ай бұрын
Kuzmenko had very little playoff experience & bad defending during a powerplay. He was surrounded by good players but wasn't performing well. *On the other hand* Lindholm has playoff experience & great on the powerplay, also the fact that he has only 9 goals this season is ONLY because he plays with a crap Cal-gay-ry team.

Now they need to ship out Hani,Marky, Kadri and Hubi. The last two are probably impossible right now, but the Flames need to get rid of everyone over 26. Ship them out for prospects and picks and bottom out for the next few years.

The winning team in all of this? The Winnipeg Jets assuming Monahan stays healthy. (I'm a Habs fan, and I'm not angry with what the team got in return for Monahan, and I'll admit that Monahan may be more of a risk, but I think that the reward could be higher if all goes well...one thing for sure, the Jets paid less.) I honestly think that Gorton/Hugues got the offer that they were hoping for in the beginning and went with it instead of trying to start a biding war. Good for all teams involved (except the rest of the season is seriously going to suck for MTL, but hey...that's what we signed up for.....I'm getting close to the point where I might start to lose interest lol.......nah who am I kidding, but still)

If they wanted to get rid of Kuz contract next year they would have had to thrown a team a sweetener. This isn’t an over payment for the Canucks. The 1st is a late 20s pick in a weak draft

@@jackconrad2667 Again getting rid of Kuz’s 5.5 next year would have at least cost us 2nd round pick. I guarantee Kuz wouldn’t have played in the playoffs under Tocchet driving his value even lower. A late 20s pick and mid level prospect isn’t over pay for a guy that instantly becomes the canucks best faceoff guy and pk killer.

I think a lot of people look at the return and think the Canucks overpaid, but this is a lot of quality over quantity. Brzustewicz is the main piece, but after that, it's a late first, Jurmo who, with all due respect, is a bust, and a conditional 4th. Paying that for Lindholm and to dump the last year of Kuzmenko's deal is a bargain.

As good as Tocchet has been, one negative aspect of his coaching style I've noticed is his rigidity when it comes to certain things. Kuz never had a chance under his system. Flames fans, you'll see what Kuzy is capable of when put in his natural role, and even then you'll see he's not deficient defensively. If your roster stays the same, Kuz will lead your team in scoring next season. There's a good chance we have Lindholm for less than 40 games.

when you break down what the canucks gave in this deal, they did very well. jurmo just got moved down to the second tier league in finland. hunter is a long shot to translate his current game to the nhl. so, a first that will be in the high 20's or in the 30's. a late 4th which is a lottery pick at best. lindholm should revive his game playing with some talent which he didn't have in calgary this year.
