It boggles my mind that we’re still testing on animals. Irritates me even more that companies like Elf for example that are “cruelty free” still manufactures their stuff in China which we all know could care less about anything especially animals.

@@bnb0510 as long as they don’t sell in china. If a company sells there products in mainland china they have to go through the animal testing production. But as of now china is actually going towards changing that law.

What bothers me about the charlotte stuff is it never ever runs deep for our darker skinned friends and it bothers me hourglass caught so much crap and she skates by. I have the deep contour wand and it works great for me.. I’m not even close to deep. I’m a 3WO in Dior., so nowhere close to even the dark end of tan. It’s annoying

Yes Lauren!!! Agreed!!! I think a dupe means it’s so good that you’ll be ‘duped’ because you literally can’t tell a difference. Being close alternative is not the same as a true dupe imo. I will say though buying 3-4 different dupes to find a close dupe is likely more expensive than just buying the original. Edited…for the average person. Thank you for testing all these for us so we don’t have to!! 😀

with all their "duping," ELF's prices have definitely skyrocketed!! They used to be one of the most affordable brands, but now they can charge way more and still be loved for it because they're being compared to higher end makeup instead of drug-store makeup.

I only have the Hollywood flawless filter, but I was so mad because I wanted to sell it on poshmark after only using it a couple times and couldn't bring myself to list it because the bottle is all crusty from the lettering and pieces of the print come off every single time.

@@Uhohlisa The print comes off the bottles in little chunks. Everytime I hold the bottle to twist off the top I get flakes of paint on the palm of my hand. It's super annoying and shouldn't happen with such an expensive product. Westman Atelier would NEVER.

The Dior was my fave lip oil. I have bought it repeatedly. I tried the NYX recently, and I'll never buy the Dior again. The Dior applicator gets gloopy, and I really prefer the amount of product I get with the Nyx. Also, it's always on sale.

I work in a medical group in a military base, and I can’t justify high end prices. So, dupes/ similar alternatives are my vibe, as long as they’re affordable and ethical.

I’ve wasted so much money over the years on dupes, that I’m not even swayed by them anymore. In the beginning I was always trying to cut costs, but as I’ve tried more, I know in my heart of hearts I’m always gonna end up buying the original. So I no longer waste my time or money, not to mention the effect that throwing all that stuff out had on the environment.

I save a LOT of money just saving to buy the fancy stuff. I wear Kevyn Aucoin foundation and Westman Atelier for my contour, blush, lip balm, and powder. The fact that i use those expensive ass products and I'm saving money is absolutely nuts to me but I used to own like, 12 different foundations that I sort of liked and at least 20 blushes that were okay. I gave my kid 7 contour sticks when I bought the WA one😮 Like, why did I have so much bullshit? 😂

I'm the same when it comes to wanting and typically enjoying the original product more. The only thing I'd say that I like better that's a dupe, is the Elf Halo glow. That's such a beautiful product and I'm blown away that they were able to do a better job than Charlotte. I own it in 4 shades and I'm constantly trying to justify purchasing the other ones lol

I don’t care about typical dupes videos (like you, if I’m interested in something, I want to try the “real thing”). But I have to tell you, I found this video concept SO much more compelling! While I generally don’t care what random product is an incidental dupe for something, I AM curious about how intentional dupes compare! I bought the ELF Hollywood Flawless Filter dupe after I already owned the Charlotte Tilbury one, just out of curiosity! I would definitely watch another video like this if/when more dupes come out!

@@laurac86 I like to use it mostly as a primer and I actually like the ELF a little better for that. I have the lightest shade in both and I agree with Lauren, you can’t see a shade difference when used that way. If you want to use it as a highlighter over your foundation, the Charlotte Tilbury gives more of a “that literally doesn’t look like detectable highlighter” effect. ELF doesn’t look obvious or bad, just more like what you would expect from a liquid highlighter.

I love Elf and Alter Ego! Dupes are fantastic when they are well done, good value, and duping a large luxury/high end house. I feel a bit differently about dupes for things in the indie/smaller brand arena. That always comes off to me as more of a predatory capitalism thing.

I know it isn't cheaper, but if you have a friend that would split it with you (the bottle will last YEARS) the Auric glow product in the lightest shade is lighter and the formula is VERY similar but I love it even more. It looks more natural but the impact is the same somehow. It's used exactly the same way too!

@@laurac86 for me it's easy! I haven't found it difficult to remove at all. Just a little micellar water on a cloth & then wash as normal, no issues! I think it's maybe $4? I really love it!

As I’ve gotten older (I’m 33 now) I find that I typically prefer the more expensive products. My skin isn’t what it used to be and I often notice the more expensive items sit better on my skin, blend in better, last longer, etc. especially when it comes to base and complexion items.

I haven’t tried the CT flawless filter or the ELF dupe (in Australia is $34) but I had a hydrating primer I didn’t use often and mixed in some highlighter and liquid illuminated and basically made my own! It works for what I want it too and cost me nothing 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

i love dupe videos! i definitely go for cheaper products now bc makeup in general is so expensive these days. i like the Dior lip oil too but i really love the one from Ami Cole which is half the price. my biggest dupe win is the elf brow gel… i think it’s a dupe for benefit and elf’s neutral brown works better for me as it’s a true neutral where most alternatives lean too warm for me.

For a skincare/glowly/primer vibe, I really like the Natasha Denona Hy-Gen Priming Serum. Charlotte Tilbury breaks me out so I have the elf dupe, but I tend to reach for the Natasha Denona one even over the elf.

I love dupes. I am not a fan of super pricey makeup though if a skincare product meets a need I can't find lower priced I will spend medium high end price. I don't wear foundation and base makeup, but I was curious about the elf halo glow, bought it in the lightest shade, it's nice for me, sometimes I just put it on my cheeks. Since it's an occasional use for me I def don't want to spend a lot. I like quite a few elf products, I didn't try it as a dupe, I just heard it was good from everyone and wanted to try some cream blush, but I the putty blushes are really nice and stay so long even nothing under or under to set it.

people are overusing the word "dupe" like they do the word "toxic". I'd like to find * actual * dupes for things and can never find any and get my hopes up clicking on videos because people think similar packaging = "dupe"

As I get older, I've reached a point where I don't like to spend more money if I don't need to. If I get comperable looks and wear with a less expensive product, I feel no shame in using them. While I tend to use high end foundations and eyeshadows, simply because I have a long work day and I need something that is going to stand up for a 12 hour day. But lipsticks, bronzer, powder, mascara.... all tend to be the less expensive brands. If I have a choice between a $8 mascara vs a $30 one that I'm going to toss in 3 months, it's a no brainer. Especially with just how expensive some brands have gotten. I don't need to pay for a name or packaging and let's be honest... the drugstore brands like Elf and Nyx have really been punching well above their weight. Even the Ulta brand has some really excellent products for a very good price.

I have tried it!! Haha I was able to get a sample of it back when it first sold out and you couldn’t get it anywhere!! It’s definitely different than my normal faves but it has grown on me! I think the mix of patchouli, fruits, florals, and musk make it something sexier than I usually wear for everyday!! It’s feels grown up to me!! Haha that’s what I currently think of it!! 😊😊

Hi Lauren! Are the alter ego pans still magnetic? I bought a couple palettes a few years ago, and the magnetic pans are one of the reasons I love them so much. But i heard at one point the pans pans weren't removable/magnetic anymore, is that the case? Really hoping they're still magnetic - I'll be picking up the Rose Quartz dupe immediately if that's the case!

how do the colors of the elf contour wand in light medium, the elf putty bronzer in tan lanes, and the colourpop supershock bronzer in get sandy compare? im very fair neutral/cool and want to get the best one!

The nyx definitely feels like a gloss to me lol. It's goopy and gloopy and slimy and sticky a little lol. I prefer more of a thin slip to a lip oil because I'd just use gloss if I wanted gloss lmao. I do enjoy the cover girl gloss that has oil in it because it's not sticky or as thick imo.

Wow, I thought your right eye was original and the left one is dupe. I was wrong. And actually I prefer right eye makeup, by the dupe. It looks like it have more 3d effect in the shimmer colour 😍

Can I just say, it has blown my mind that no one has mentioned that the Nars creme bronzer is an almost perfect formula dupe for Soliel Tan de Chanel. Laguna 1 even matches the shade. Has it just been gone too long?
