New single "Cloud Collapse" out everywhere: fanlink.tv/andrewhuang-cloudc...
I've been interested in Osmose since Expressive E first announced it a few years ago, and have followed its development closely. For me, it lives up to the hype. Disclosure: Expressive E sent me this unit but didn't pay me, didn't tell me anything I should or shouldn't say, and didn't see any part of this video before I published it. I put a lot into this video because I'm excited to explore and share about Osmose; I think it's a huge step for keyboard instruments which we haven't seen in a long time. More info about Osmose here: www.expressivee.com/2-osmose

Honestly, with his love for odd meters and polyrhythms, I'm surprised Andrew isn't knees-deep in the modern prog scene 😅He even mispronounced Haken in this video (which, if you're unaware, is the name of a very awesome prog metal band that recently released a new album). Hoping to see him include more influences from that genre going forward, 'cause he absolutely ROCKS at creating songs in that style (pun definitely intended)!

The whole time I was thinking it brings the same kind of expressive control to envelopes, dynamics etc as what draws me to real strings and woodwinds. The flute sounds this makes are the first simulated flutes to not sound fake to me, probably just because it has that sensitivity to every subtlety in the ways the notes are played. Usually I can tell a virtual flute/sax has been played on a keyboard, but not here! Of course the lack of in-depth sound design makes me a little sadder, but a lot of it is covered in the expression. Like, you’ve got pitch and amplitude envelopes right there in your fingers!

Lately I've been thinking about how a whole lot of the character of a lead sound comes from pitch alone (melody, glides and bends, detune, octave). The lead at :59 is such a good example of this. The performance controlling the pitch bend gives it an organic feel, even though if that synth sound was playing a static note, it wouldn't sound organic at all.

When the song abruptly cut at 11:09 I was like "Noooooo it was sooo gooooood", ok note to self need to check out the new song ;) Also I vote for a standalone music video (doesn't have to be different footage than what you already have in this video) Great vid, and a beautiful instrument I'd love to get... some day... when I can justify it... ugh...

Andrew just going crazy in that whole rock song then just abruptly cuts back to the review almost felt like he was lost in the music and he just took me with him up until he realized he was doing something else important💀

That track between BLEW ME AWAY, woah!! That will be stuck in my head for a while. As always the way you present things and explain things gave me that much needed dopamine I wanted today. This synth looks so fun to play. Kinda crazy that something just like it didn't exist before (as far as I know) since it feels so intuitive.

Not to smash the dream or speak negatively of Andrew's talents in any way - but for those looking to get in on this wonderfulness just be aware that edited youtube videos make things seem much faster. It's minutes here but unedited that could've been hours or days if creative blocks happen. That shouldn't stop anyone from pursuing music though! I just like to reality check folks that for any of the hobbies/careers shown on YT you're seeing the final product of tons of effort and time. That effort and time can be a really fun journey though!

@@Daphoid Needs to be mentioned more, stuff always looks easy on KZfaq because no one uploads their hours and days and weeks of tries that didnt't work out (yet). Nevertheless though: even considereing the creative blocks he probably encounters like everyone, the amount of great quality content enveloped with good video/cinematography and full songs is still VERY astonishing. I can only wish to have half of his creative energy.

It's actually a little bonkers that MIDI remained static for 35 years when nearly every other aspect of the industry has kept pace with changes in technology. Some of us have been waiting a loooong time for this evolution!

@@helmanfrow well it's a bit premature to assume this synth with that engine and editor are going to change that. the keybed will perhaps speed it up a bit spurring competition in the marketplace. If they sold it as an MPE controller without the synth it would sell like hotcakes.

Thank you for giving this instrument the time it deserves and respecting it enough to recognize that it is a new instrument that needs to be learned. While the “hey let’s unbox and power on this thing together” videos have their place, too many content producers cannot stop and first appreciate their own personal journey with an instrument.
