I like how you guys were super honest about this project. Most people that make these kinds of videos are like “look at me! I made so much money and all I had to do was slap a coat of paint on this thing”. You guys were super honest about how much time and stress it took to get everything done and the fact that it wasn’t necessarily worth it, when you factor in that it took away from your relaxation time, which is invaluable to me atleast! Really cool video!

With the exception of the doors, the entire piece was just a deteriorating veneer. It looked ok on video but in person I don't think it could have been salvaged. If it was real wood it would have cost us much more.

@Letycs

@@sendmedics I can't believe they call THIS flipping. 😂 Actual flipping typically requires much more work, not slathering 'deteriorating veneer' with chalk paint instead of actually fixing the furniture so that when it starts deteriorating more under all that paint (and with the paint) that's not THEIR problem, it's the new owners problem. They couldn't even be arsed to sand the damn thing regardless of what the chalk paint said. That's like believing one coat of light paint is good enough because the can says it is. This isn't flipping, it's faking it until they make their money and can run. You're not getting a whole ass cabinet for $6 in auction no less if there isn't anything wrong with it other than needing a paint job. I've seen legitimately terrible run down furniture sell on auction for so much more because the people who actually put effort into flipping products want these things.

I have watched other furniture flipping videos from other couples, and wondered at the time invested, while children sort of drifted in and out of frame. My children are grown now and, as happens for us all, I often think what I would give to have those early years back. Omg, I was having the exact opposite reaction. “Hold on, they’re listing it for HOW MUCH?! And they SOLD it for that?! Where the hell do they live???” In rural Idaho, the original cost for the items would be lower (free or $10 at most) but the resell would be a shit ton lower too ($25 or maaayybbbeee $50). I’m a thinkin’ I buy a bunch of stuff locally, drive it six hours to the closest metropolis, and sell it. If I had a super gas efficient vehicle, I think it would totally work.

Yes! Wicker is huge, but it's hard to find a deal because most people know that. But this week I found a wicker rocking chair for $35 just cleaned it and took a better photo and sold for $150. I haven't found any grandma chairs yet but I'm on the lookout!

We do find that the velvet is sometimes discolored. Sometimes we take our 50/50 solution of vinegar water and wipe the velvet in a circular motion to "feather" the harsh line. It usually wont look completely perfect, but it's better than the original. Hope this helps!

@JAMIEANDSARAH

We try not to buy soiled chairs, but if they need a light cleaning we use a 50-50 solution of vinegar water in a spray bottle. Blot up 👍

Entertaining spin on being a side hustle mortgage challenge & informative perspective on furniture flipping. Thx for sharing your adventure with us. You have a good👁eye for a deal, awareness for what is hot🔥, how to best repackage items, & are aggressive @ pricing. Truly amazing to see how you did such minimal work on several pieces, but got a maximum return💰. Good for you!👏 Not quite a 🛠DIY tutorial flip bcos you glossed over some actual cleaning & finishing details, but fascinating nonetheless to see how your 📷stylish staging & merchandising positively impacted your sales. Also to learn how much it helped you to use key design words & trends in your own postings🗞. Clearly, you captured the imagination of buyers on top of greatly improving your own sales, profits & bottomline. Thrilled to hear about your ☀️Summer selling success on FBM. How appalling to discover your more recent negative experiences in this very same forum. (How your 🍁Fall postings got bogged down in some purgatory.) Filling FBM w/hated spam ads seems completely counterintuitive as does slowing down the entire search engine, but perhaps the giant is more interested in chasing revenue 💸 over actually improving service. 😆Frustrating that these changes have clearly stalled a dynamic & effective 🛒Marketplace for both buyers & sellers alike. 🤔Hope someone else in the tech💻world is paying attention! ✌😊🤙

Thanks for the encouraging words and thoughtful response! We really appreciate it! We just wanted to show people the true possibilities of reselling and how much you could make by putting in a lot of effort. The whole Facebook Marketplace thing is a real bummer. Someone else just posted and said they are throttling post exposure to 1-2% unless it’s paid. 😢 seems like they took it way to far and will destroy the good thing they had going. Thanks again for the comment! It means a lot to us!
