always positive pressure... or temps will go up. that means you will always need more airflow on the intake than on the exhaust.

Francesco Corriga issue is with that form of GPU pushing heat into the case is relying entirely on positive pressure to reduce the temp of the air in the case. Give the GPU it's own output and I bet you will have a temp difference of at least 5 to 10.

@@christopherc1976 radiator's use cold air intake to transfer heat from the coolant to the fins to the air. The lower the pressure difference(cooler the air coming over the fins) the better heat transfer. Thus Your "CPU" stays very chill. But does bring heat into the system which can add to the mobo/gpu heat lvls. The other thing is pressure differential. Which is kinda like concentration gradient if you remember any chemistry from highschool/college. The higher the pressure in the box and the lower the pressure out of the box the more it will will move. This is also effected by how fast air flow is moving. Faster/More is some times very bad. Its a shame they didnt test Top air exhaust with side AIO intake. Reducing cold air intake from the bottom while having the hot air from the radiator would have more pressure thus forcing air upward into cooling/lower pressure air with the exhaust fans helping create a boost. Which probably would of had better results than with the 3 intakes at the bottom. Lower pressure air natural goes down it also WONT try to enter a higher pressure area thus the cool air in the bottom is causing pockets around the GPU which is most likely why it has the heat spike.

When I place fans I usually follow 4 case airflow rules: 1. From the bottom and up, because hot air is naturally rising. 2. Front to back, because cases are usually configured like this. 3. Positive air pressure, as to prevent dust from getting sucked in via empty expansion slots etc. 4. Test every option possible because your system deserves a complete analysis! Who knows what complicated situations your case/room/desk/components can cause?

Setup is: 3 bottom-fans intake, 3 side-fans outtake, radiator top with 3 fans for INTAKE cooling the CPU perfectly fine and the GPU still get its fresh air. Also installed a 80mm bequiet fan back above the lian li / der 8auer logo like they did. Case and rad-fans are TT Pure Plus. I also run a 6700k @ 4.5 GHz but a RTX 2080, which produces serious heat. Still Temps are amazing. GPU max 70°C w/ fans @ 60 %, CPU max 68°C with fans @ 20%. CPU been delided but w/o liquid metal. CPU cooler is an Eisbear 360 L with modded tubes and reservoir. This video is great but as noted by several users the results set is incomplete because Dimitri completely missed one scenario for non blower horizontal GPU setup which probably is the most common scenario. I have tested further and can confirm 1) if regular horizontal GPU setup non blower style - best temperature hands down with: bottom intake, top AIO intake and side exhaust - even better if you push/pull your AIO with a 12 fan overkill config using the configuration above (yes you can do it with this case on top!). both GPU and CPU received fresh air which is evacuated by the size. My cpu is crazy cold in that config 2) if vertical GPU setup or blower style GPU , then Dimitri settings are the best

When I'm thinking about airflow I like to imagine the air as water in a tank that's being heated up, and then I imagine the best way to get water in and out of the tank quickly so that it doesn't get a chance to get hot. I find this helps me to clarify things because it's easier to visualise water because you can see it, while air is kind of invisible.. For example, if you have water flowing in from 6 holes, and it only has 2 holes to flow out then it will be hanging around in there for a while.
@chrisogrady28
@chrisogrady28 Жыл бұрын
Also if the only exhaust is via a rad it's not going to escape cleanly and you get positive pressure build up. I am interested in how much passive exhaust the open mesh rear provides though.
@JoeBob79569
@JoeBob79569 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisogrady28 Some positive pressure is a good thing though, because it means that all the air coming in is coming from the fans, and hence the air moves through your dust filters and blocks the dust. Negative pressure means that the air will be coming in through these unfiltered "open meshes" and any other holes in the case, and bringing dust and hair with it. But obviously too much positive pressure isn't great either. I think something like 4 intake and 3 exhaust would be just fine, or even 5 in and 3 out, and you just make the exhaust fans run a little faster to balance it.

Thomas Gibilisco today I used a rasp to file the fan and it worked pretty well even though I had to get a lot of plastic away. I think the fan should still work. I preferred that way because as I red some of these adapters are way to tight so that you pull out the whole USB header when you want to change it. There's a one big PROBLEM in this result. Canucks used Blower-style GPU, so hot air from the GPU directly goes out of the case. It means intaked cool air goes directly to the AIO's top radiator and it makes CPU cooler. BUT most of us use Open-air GPU. If we set up AIO Top exhaust, intaked cool air goes to GPU and becomes hot air. It means hot air from GPU goes to the AIO'S radiator, and it decreases AIO's cooling. So I think the Best solution with Open-air GPU is . If you want to use only 6 fans, is the best.

Dmitry, I have been admiring your work for a while Sir. As a fellow interested in learning. What are your preparation habits? How much time do you spend preparing for the video production? If you feel like answering in a percentages or time frames style answers that'd be highly appreciated. Thank you and keep up the great works.

Thanks :) time frame for videos really depends if there are longer voice-over section (that need scripting) or more vlog-sections. For this one, turn around was maybe 40 hours for the whole thing. Only had two days to complete it so it was crammed. Otherwise i would spread it over 3 days. -D.

WOW! I am shocked. My apologies. I really thought you guys punched out videos in 10-14 hour time frame. This is great insight to give ourselves some space to allow for the development of videos. 40 hours is quite a bit of work, and it definitely shows in your videos. Have a great weekend.

Keep in mind that if you do the side AIO setup, you can do a 6 fan push-pull configuration with a 360mm radiator setup which significantly drops the CPU temperatures down. Mine dropped 10 degrees C at 100% load from my previous 3 fan intake AIO setup on the side.

Uh oh. I put 11 in mine. GPU 360mm radiator intake with push/pull on side (yes, you can fit CERTAIN fans back there if you put the radiator in the front), CPU 360mm radiator up top in a push only config (the fans were white, so I wanted them to show more than the black radiator to match the case) and 2 bottom intake fans to basically bring in some fresh air to mix with the hot exhaust of the GPU intake and to help cool the VRMS of the GPU. Using an i9 9900k @ 5ghz and RTX 2080ti with a slight overclock the max temps I see on the CPU are in the upper 70s (temps spikes are weird, seems like latency in the cooling chain rather than not enough cooling capacity) and the GPU maxes out at 57c. All fans run @ ~700 RPM. I use Argus Monitor software to set fan speeds (set the fans to peg at max if temps hit 85c on either CPU or GPU that way I'll know something's gone bad, since I don't have an internal speaker) and honestly, people should really look into that software. Dmitry would probably get a big use out of it. Not only can you monitor temps across EVERYTHING, you can set fan speeds based on temps of anything. Want a case fan to increase as your GPU heats up? You can. When your RAM heats up? You can. Want to use an average temps over time so your fans aren't constantly revving? Yup. You can honestly do an incredible amount for such an incredibly low amount, it's probably one of the best upgrades I've made to my computer. Oops, now I sound like a shill.

@lcambilargiu
@lcambilargiu 5 жыл бұрын
I liked your video. Great photography and great energy! Preface: Server hardware design optimizes air flow by placing intake on one side and exhaust on the other. Component placement and orientation should be considered to avoid air restriction where possible. In the PC-O11 dynamic the GPU clearly creates a division between the top and bottom of the front side of the case. All the cables on the back side would create somewhat of a restrictions, unless you have them tidy. The dust screens all create a quantitative airflow restriction and so if you can maximize the filtered input area, you clearly create a better flow scenario. If you are still experimenting with flow options please consider this: 1. How about leaving the dust screens on the top (exhaust) to restrict exhausting heavily on the top. Optionally this vent can be partially blocked near the front of the case with a sheet of paper sandwiched between the case and the screen. 2. Cover the front 2/5th to half of the bottom vents with a sheet of paper; leave the rear portion of the bottom vents completely open. Perhaps a couple of magnets to hold the paper in place? 3. Place all 6 fans configured as intakes through side. 3 in front of the radiator pulling air into the case through the sided mounted radiator, and 3 in the back pushing air through the radiator. 4. You may experiment with the rear side dust screens in place or removed. 5. Optionally a single fan can be placed to exhaust air from the bottom rear of the case to help move more air beneath the GPU. This configuration will create a "U" shaped airflow pattern where air is introduced in the rear through HD area and also through the openings in the back side cover (optionally without the screens), then the air is all forced through the radiator and into the front side of the case. Then it is divided into two regions, above and below the GPU. The removal of the dust screen on the bottom will enhance airflow velocity beneath the GPU but not until the paper blockage channeled all air further to the rear displacing hot GPU air. The optional fan (#5 above) will enhance the air mass flowing in this region. Air is also flowing over the top of the GPU will exit partially from the top, and also through the openings in the rear. The liquids cooled CPU is effectively chilled by the entire air mass flowing through the case as the radiator is the focus of all 6 fans. Inefficiencies in this configuration would be openings between the front side (motherboard side) and rear side (PSU side) where air doesn't fully exit the case before getting forced back into circulation; the rubber grommets help reduce these inefficiencies but other large openings may present an opportunity to further enhance the configuration.

Thanks for the clear answer. I am building a system with this case and water cooling (my first time for that) and didn't know whether to suck things in or out and where. The "humor" I could do without, but most of these channels seem to think that is a requirement.

3:00 You call that simple? Having two controllers and two cables for each fan? Thermaltake does it best at the moment with a single hub and single cable per fan. Now we just need someone to make daisy chain-able/connectable fans to eliminate all but one cable.

Maybe I missed something but I feel like the obvious solution is to have AIO intake on top to get the best CPU cooling, bottom fans intake to get best GPU cooling and side fans exhaust to remove all the air that's been pushed through, and heated by the radiator and GPU. Is there some reason you wouldn't test this? Everything else pushes warm air through the AIO.

I'm really surprised the gpu suffered so much when the AIO was side intake. Crazy that it benefits by 4 degrees simply because the side intake fans are unobstructed. I would have thought having unobstructed top exhaust fans would allow more heat to be dissipated, thus supporting the gpu's cooling. Very interested in how an open air gpu cooler would impact these scores.
