Same here bud I grew around fresh and salt water tanks as a child. About a month ago I got my first betta. Fast forward a week i had (2) 5 gallon tanks. One more week in the future I picked up a 55g and a 10g tank. Next stop 125-175 gallon tank. Go big or go home right???

My favorite female got past the divider and my other female ripped off all her fins and tail. She died shortly after I found her. I was devastated. No, indeed, they are not all sweethearts and get along! They're still territorial, some more than others. I adopted my baby male after seeing him struggling to eat the pellet that was bloated in his cup. He couldn't swim upright either and had little color. Broke my heart. So I took him home and now he's growing into a beautiful little boy. I have wondered a few times if he's actually female, but I think he's male.

This happened because of a small enclosed space, I’ve never seen a Tank with a divider that was big enough for two fish, your bettas had no where to go so it was the perfect set up for a fight till the death scenario, that is essentially the only time they will fight to achieve death, if they were in a larger tank with a lot of plants and hiding spots they would not have killed each other

I rescued two females from a pet store that they had in the same tank , the tail had pieces Missing. I took them both home and I put them in the heavily planet 10 gl aquarium and they’ve been living together for almost 2 years now in perfect harmony. I believe if the tank is heavily planted and they have places to hide it doesn’t matter if you have 2 or 10 as long as the aquarium is big enough and it’s heavily planted you shouldn’t have any issues.

I keep 4 female betta fish in a 10 gallon tank. When I bought them, they were all kept in the same tank at the pet store. They appear to have grown up together, and they all get along well. I do have tons of hiding places so if they do get aggressive they just hide in separate areas. I’ve had them for around 7 months now and everything had gone very well. Like the video said, it’s better to have 5 in a larger tank, but so far mine seem to be getting along fine.

@Mustiboi Salman I totally agree, but the problem is I'm a broke 14 year old😂. I'm also like 90% sure they are all sisters because when I bought them, they were already in a sorority and looked almost identical. I would 100% have a larger tank right now if they were showing any signs of aggression, but they get along perfectly. One of my neighbors just gave me a really nice 16-20 gallon tank so I decided to move them in that. I know its not the perfect size, but I don't have enough money or a stand for a 20-30 gallon. @Mustiboi Salman I have 3 spare tanks I can set up quickly set up. They're scary though because they bite my hands really aggressively when I have to move a plant around or something, it's pretty funny.

Mustiboi Salman , I was planning on breeding cherry shrimp to make a little bit of money, and I have another ten gallon with harlequin rasboras that I want to slowly introduce to the female Berta’s. There tanks have been next to the each other for maybe a year, so they kind of know each other. If the betas end up trying to attack them I’ll keep them in the ten gallon

You could try again. There will be agression but after a certain amount of time it may subside. And they will live together happily

@@Ductie94 a little late but no. Bettas only tend to be agressive to fish of the same coloring or fish that have long pretty fins. Larger fish won't be bothered

Every time I see one of these sorority videos I look at their tails. The fish look happy but you can clearly see that they are nipping each other.

I have 2 males & 4 females in a 20 gallon tank & they bully sometimes but there are no signs of fighting each other as my tank is heavily planted

@@katsmith3347 there's definitely risk but if you have that much space, your chances of success are ten times higher! Its just that most setups arent big enough for it to work and there will always be risk anyway

I feed my bettas pellets and freeze dried blood worms. For the pellets I use the sample pack that comes in the box of Tetras Bettasafe Starter kit. It has the fizzy tablets in there to make the water safe and the free sample pack has mini pellets. Even my small bettas are able to eat those tiny pellets.

We have a 36 gal bowfront tank with 7 female bettas, 3 black molly females and various trumpet snails and amano shrimp. The tank has 7 "features" including plants (both rooted and tied to driftwood) and a one large rock feature. Most of the "features" have several different features giving multiple hidey holes for all the fish and shrimp. Anytime we plan on adding new bettas, we also add new features or once I rearranged the features we already had to change up the territories so they weren't too territorial over a specific "home". We started with the mollies and shrimp/snails then added 3 bettas. About a month later we added the last 4 bettas and other than the "first day jitters" everything has been fine. The new girls did stay hidden and had very visible stress lines that first week or 2, but now the stress lines have all faded away and they swim freely around the tank with the rest! I'll never NOT have a sorority tank if I can help it!

I have 9 females in a 30 lots of plants for then to hide. I have been lucky they all get along my one female Rebecca keeps then in check when they chase each other she goes over to them and they stop . And to my surprise I have a Male yes your right when they are young they fool you but to late he is part of the family. He does chase the girls but here comes Rebecca and puts a stop to him chasing. She gets beside him and like dolphins that swim in unison she does the same to my boy. Do you know that they have a memory span of 5 months amazing the more you teach them the more they retain . I also have several other tanks decided with my boys. They are so beautiful to watch but my girls have so much personality. I love my betta family

Great video here! I chose a school of 9 cardinal neons to go with my 2 lovely female Bettas (both metallic, one blue, one chrome, with red fins/fin lines) and they look stunning together. One little advice though, 2 of my 3 male Moscow guppies were nipped to death in about 2 months by the female Bettas couple (the guppies were in the tank earlier) so I would not advise this combination. I'm now tempted to get another female Betta or another pair, but as I hear, it is not advisable. The tank is not a large one either.

Ugh! I have a 108 gallon tank sitting in my garage right now and I am SERIOUSLY considering following in your footsteps..... I've become absolutely obsessed with bettas, especially a sorority. Unfortunately, just as my plants were really starting to grow in nice, the tank sprung a leak -.- I was GUTTED. I'll be restarting again this winter with a new tank, though lol

I have an 65 gallons community tank. It have 6 Bettas (female), 7 Black Tetra, 6 Australian Rainbowfish, 6 Zebra Danio, 6 Rio Tetra and common Pleco. It is a very active fish tank. 🐠🐠🐠🐠

Great! I was always scared to start a sorority though🤔 in case it fails.. Ive heard that sororities can reduce bettas life span and when the number of females decreases things can get bad. Bettas are one of my favourite fish no matter the gender😁

I have a female betta with my guppies and shrimp in a 17g. They all get along fine. In fact she swims along with them. The pet shop suggested I take her as she was the smallest in tank and was being bullied. Clearly she's much happier and I wouldn't dream of giving her a mate. They all seem to have such different personalities.

My partner just took first in the IBC and lucky me he has tanks full so what I did was started off with 100 and just plucked out the males. they get along fine when they come up as fry together. Just an idea for those who have that kind of access

I have 3 female Bettas in a 29g planted tank. It also houses 6 Female Platies and 5 Panda Cories. They have their own little territories and only flare when other bettas get too close. I carefully monitored them for a few days and they dont bother the other fish. In the beginning I was worried because my koi was in the tank a few days first so she acted slightly aggressive towards the other two I added, like flaring up then swimming away like nothing happened after a few seconds. My koi occasionally chases my painted platies (probably cause the dots on them look like her pellets) but she gets left in the dust.

Tank dividers are a great way to help out in a pinch. Something every betta sorority keeper should have as a back up 🙂

My record was 12 females and 2 males. They were all desensitised before introduction. The males fought the first day but they did fine after that. The alpha male was breeding with the females non stop until he died 2 years in. Big tank, loads of hiding places and flow tends to reduce aggression

I'm deabting doing a sorority. I have a 36 gallon tank that is currently a planted live bearer tank. I'm moving the live bearers (some soon and others once a new tank cycles) and trying to decide what to do with the 36. So.. I have some time to decide. Where would I go to get a group of them that were raised together? I bought a female beta from your site (she's awesome), but don't know if you have a group of young ones that could be raised as a sorority or if you know where to get them? No tlocked into this yet and a little nervous if it doesn't work. I have 6 tanks right now from 5 to 110.

So many betta pellets are ridiculously huge. They're the size of cichlid pellets. Hikari Micropellets, Aqueon betta bits, and Fluval Bug Bites are great

I have a 38 gallon long with 10 females but it is heavily planted and there is lots of different decor my alpha female is a candy koi female along with a spade tail betta a couple crown tails and a few veiltails which I spawned myself

I just went through an unsuccessful betta sorority and it was really hard ( and heartbreaking). I do still have a few of the girls (the bullies or the b!tches) but they are living solitary now and probably always will. I wasn't going to ever try again but, with this info I feel incouraged. My first sorority was a 33g long and a 50g extra tall (3x2) and I started with 3 and added 3 more. They all got along for the first 5-6 months. I had assorted platy for dither fish. I do think I should have added a other 4 females. The sorority had a mix of plakat tail and veiltail. I had a moon marble veiltail that ruled the rest of the girls

This got me thinking of doing a sorority in my 55. I already have 7 giant danios, 4 Snakeskin barbs (looking for 4-5 more), and 4 female Congo Tetras (again looking for 3-4 more mainly males). Is it possible to add 5 Bettas to this?

I have a 7 member fraternity and they are all vibrant, happy and fine. They are not from the same parents (lol) but I rescued on sale in a pet (not fish) store for $2.88 USD, I could not emotionally deal with it (fin rot etc) They are all good. Live together, no fighting etc. so I don't beleive the BS about them, they live in rice paddies male and female, they breed, fry is born, they survive so why seperate them?? it's un-natural! My fish all good!

Weve had a 10 gallon with 1 female betta and 10 ember tetras and 1 mystery snail for about 4 months now. Works great. We did get the betta as a baby tho
