These pockets can be made with a flap or with a notch. Stay to the end and I will also show you how to make a pocket that has both a flap and a thumb notch.

I’m so grateful for this video! The WAMK tutorial while nice to watch offered no direct instructions on how to use it. I appreciate your detailed instructions so much. I was getting frustrated why my pockets weren’t coming out correctly! If you’re a teacher, thank you for the lesson!

There is an easier way, one I use all the time when I make coin envelopes. Once the envelope is sealed at the closing seam I use a circle punch, put it half way in the opening and punch. Perfectly lined up half circle every time. Much less fiddly :)

Thank you for the very concise and helpful tutorial. I love the punchboards and tools from We R Memory Keepers EXCEPT for this: they seem to have no consideration for people with low vision. For example on this pocket punchboard: the incised marks to use for centering the thumb punch are not highlighted. I understand to make them dark gray or black would possibly take away from their aesthetic, but it surely make the board most usable for everyone over the age of 40 and most people with other vision issues. The second really big issue is the packaging, package insert, and chart for paper sizes is in such a tiny font it's - again - almost impossible for anyone with vision problems to see. Yes, the turquoise and white and oh-so-pretty, but there's little contrast which would make reading easier. And, I haven't looked on their website in a while, but the last time I looked there was no large font, high contrast, easy to read version of the instructions and chart which could be downloaded to make this tool easily accessible to paper crafters of all (or most all) vision levels. So while I appreciate and buy these products, they are unusable to me without lots of preparation, such as asking someone else to write the chart in large numbers for me, which I then type with a large and bold font. Of course this allows for errors at two steps. And it's tedious and honestly my family does it for me but they don't like doing it, and I can't blame them. It seems the least WRMK could do is include a large and high contrast format. After all, they're making imperial and metric dimensions and English, French, Spanish, and German versions. There are lots and lots of older crafters and vision impaired crafters who could sure benefit from that consideration in the craft tool manufacturing world. Please spread the word. Thanks

Thank u for being so prepared with your videos StephG! So fantastic when demonstrators are focused on the product and provide tips and background experience versus opening a product and demonstrating it for the first time which wastes so much time (and quite frankly annoying when they giggle throughout most of video and make so many unrelated comments AND sales pitches!). If you take a Sharpie you can draw a line at the "O" and align the side of the paper to cut. All my WRMK tools are marked with Sharpies cause I can't never remember or align anything. Thanks for sharing, learned something knew. And as they say Knowledge is Power! Just scrolled down and saw someone else said the same, don't feel that bad marking my tools. ♥♥

If you fold the flap of the unglued finished pocket down, you can use the butt bar to ensure your punched thumb notch is straight. You obviously still need to line up with the centre of the “O” on the board. I hope this makes sense, informative tutorial, thanks

I have not used this tool but to help with the notches I would draw a perpendicular line from the edge of the platform through the center of the O so you could line up the edge of the paper with it - too bad we r mk didn't think to add a line up channel there. Thanks for your tutorial. I purchased this, made one pocket and was regretting the purchase. I wish WeR Memory Keepers would have made larger print and more extensive instructions, but I can go somewhere and have the instructions they did provide enlarged. Maybe there are more instructions on their website. I guess they think all their purchasers are 22 with perfect eyesight. I wear reading glasses and still had to use a magnifying glass. I'll keep trying and maybe find this is an essential tool. Your tutorial did help a lot.

Hello- I thought your video was very informative! You have a patient voice and explain things well. A tip ... you can use the bone folder (scoring tool) to make crisp seams for your pocket if you're someone who doesn't like the look of the fold you get by pressing with your fingers. Set the paper on a flat surface, fold and smooth as usual, then run the tool down the seams to get a crisp fold. You might not want to do this if you're planning on inserting a thick item into the envelope.

Thanks for showing this. I have a few WRMK boards. For some reason I could never follow their instructions. I am glad that many tutorials are on KZfaq. Yours is very clearly understandable. Quick question. ..I found that on many of my punch boards, the blade doesn't stay in its cradle. Mostly the smaller ones. How can I keep them in their cradles durring storing them?
@stampjg
@stampjg 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Nanette! If the blade does not push firmly into it's round storage hole, perhaps using a scrap of light paper as a shim to keep it in. Or maybe use a rubber band to keep it in place. I have not had this issue, so maybe another kind viewer can help.

Hi, Tracey! Thank you for watching! I never laugh at other people. We all have challenges. I hope you get a chance to play with the punch board. One thing I like are that all the measurements at the top are marked with numbers so you don't have to count lines or guess which mark to use. They also call it a guideline and not a ruler, which helps. It still takes a couple of tries to get it right, but practicing on a scrap paper first helps.

I totally understand where you’re coming from! I hated learning metric conversion math in school! However, I sew, do patchwork, quilting, card making and scrapbooking. In those crafts, using metric is easier because all the numbers are rounded and even. You don’t have any odd measurements like 7/8 or 3/16. Metric is so much easier when making cards, and I wish American manufacturers would include both measurement markers on the sides of these wonderful tools and scoreboards!

@@LorealNewsonTRLDesigns Thank you for your response.. I just downloaded the App and it will definitely work with my envelope punch board...really appreciate the tip... I like the pocket style envelope for my slimline cards and I do have ways to make that happen... I was kind of hoping I could make that happen with the Pocket Punchboard, no worries.... Happy 2021..!! :)

When doing the hole for the thumb pocket to pull out gift cards I just assemble and then use a small hole punch on the end I do not use the portion on the tool to make it

Hi, Helen! Thanks for watching! I believe that WRMK has a replacement plastic piece with a blade. I have not purchased one yet, but I have seen them in the big box craft stores.

I have to have one of these. Why couldn’t you use a small circle punch to make notch?
@stampjg

Hi, Lou! Thank you for coming by! Yes, you can use a small circle punch for the notch. I just seem to miss the middle when I do it this way :-)

Another interesting product. You have a really great presentation style - clear and informative! Have you seen or used one of the WRMK 1-2-3- punch boards? I've considered buying one but it seems a lot of money to pay out on something I'm not sure about!

@@stampjg I don't know if you have a Tuesday Morning anywhere around you. They have the 123 as well as other WRMK boards and items. They also have other current WRMK items that you find at the mainstream stores. Thanks :) In regards to the less fiddley way of doing the thumb notch, I would just put it together and use a regular small round punch on the finished piece. I think that they over thought that a bit and went complicated...lol or the could have made it come out not flushed with the side of the board. But, an easier way would use a small circle punch and only punch half of the circle out. Some WRMK people may already have there 1/2 circle punch that they sold for the tabs a while back. Just a thought.

Yes, I think a circle punch would be easier, except I have a habit of missing the middle somehow! But it is less fiddley. Thanks Kat!

Stephanie, I just got this and I am practicing but I am having trouble getting my pattered paper going the right way. I have a piece of paper with text on it and want it to end up horizontal but it ends up vertical. Do you have any tips for me? Help.
@stampjg
@stampjg 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Marilyn...I'd love to help, if I can. When cutting the paper to size, the 1st measurement on the chart is going to be the horizontal measurement - this will create the sides that fold or wrap around to make the back of the pocket. The 2nd measurement is for the flap or open ends. If text needs to be horizontal, cut it to the first number of inches inches wide. Also, keep that side of the paper up at the top (at the number guide, not the letter guide) when using the board to cut the "corners" out of the paper. --- I'm not sure if I've answered your question. Let me know and I will try again...

Stampjg - StephG Thanks, I think I finally realize that the longest side of the paper is the seam part so it ends up being the vertical patterns once you hold the pocket or envelope upright. At least that style of pocket, upright vs laying on its side. I will play around a bit more to see if I figured it out. Thanks for your help.

What is the purpose of not having the blade stationary versus the blade picked up & manually placed into the channel? Doesn't seem to make sense since each cut will be in that same channel regardless of the size of pocket or am i misunderstanding something?

There is something else we can do with this board besides pockets?
@stampjg
@stampjg 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Janice, thanks for watching! Not really. It does pockets and pockets with a flap that can be used as an envelope. You can cut a window in the pocket and seal it it make a shaker, but it is still a pocket. Hope this helps!
