Yes, there are two Chinas. Taiwan is the democratic version China. The Taiwanese are ethnically Chinese. The People’s Republic of China is what we know as China today and it is communist China. They fought a civil war against each other right after WW2. The Chinese Communist Party hijacked the Chinese Army and attacked ppl who believed in democracy over communism. The communist pushed the free people all the way to the coast. They were able to escape to the neighboring island and formed a new country they called Taiwan which was based on democracy and capitalism instead of communism like mainland China.

Eh Taiwan wasn’t originally based on democracy since the Nationalists were nearly as brutal dictators as the communists. Same thing with south Vietnam and South Korea. South Korea and Taiwan only became truly democratic in the 80’s

19:10 Yes, Taiwan's official name is "the Republic of China (ROC)". So it's "the other" China besides "the People's Republic of China (PRC)", which most people simply call "China". 😁

Observations of spacial expansion is popularly described as space getting larger, but none of these explanations are logically consistent with the principle that matter and energy occupy space. This suggests that it is actually matter and energy that are shrinking, which from our perspective creates the illusion that space is expanding, and causing lightspeed constants to seem accelerated with distance.

It always amuses me how much emphasis people put on taxes on America starting the American Revolution. British citizens of the time paid nearly twice the taxes of the American colonists. The real reason for revolutionary sentiment was most likely a combination of sheer distance causing a drift in culture and the lack of communication with England leading to a feeling that whatever laws and taxes were put in place were arbitrary and did nothing to benefit the colonies. American colonists felt they didn't need England anymore (which was far from true, many of America's goods still came from trans-atlantic trade, which was only made possible by the British navy at this time, something that would become obvious after the war when piracy became a serious problem for the new nation) and resented any external authority. No taxation without representation was more of a slogan and talking point than an actual cause of the war.

Post-war some USA merchants asked the Royal Navy to help them out with Barbary Pirates. The reply was No Representation without Taxation. This seems legit as the Taxation originally asked for was for the defence of the Americas.

If you like this and haven’t watched them yet the guy who does the Oversimplified videos puts together a good video. I have particularly enjoyed both of the world war ones, the American revolution and Civil War one and the Cold War. Those I really enjoyed but I haven’t seen one yet that wasn’t interesting. Then they have stories of interest like The Emu War from Australia where the Australian army went to war against the Emu’s, (spoiler the Emu’s won). Considering how drop dead boring history was in school you can find some interesting stories online.

Pakistan and Bangladesh used to be called West Pakistan and East Pakistan, but East Pakistan choose to change their name to Bangladesh, and Pakistan didn't then need the "West" anymore.

Perfect recap of the history of this world for this two second attention span generation. I did learn it the old fashioned way but whatever gets the information out there (and hopefully be retained) works. P.S . Yeah, Bangladesh was East Pakistan before with India in the middle, an idea that would've never worked anyway...

The video's also pretty good at bringing up things education skipped. Some of the empires in this were like.. barely mentioned at school, we just learnt about Rome and then jumped to European history. Asia got skipped almost completely
