Nice video! We were there end of March for 7 nights... Also stayed on the west wing at a Mountain View bungalow (#211)... Beautiful resort and we've been fortunate enough to go there a few times now! We're going back to Bora Bora for Christmas and New Years for two weeks, but this time around we're staying at the Le Bora Bora, which we feel it's an amazing value for the money for the longer stays! Every time we go to Bora Bora, we do the Lagoon Service full day tour!... So worth it and it never gets old!!!... This last time we did it as a combo with a Jet Ski tour after lunch to kill two birds with one stone... :) The other snorkeling tour I highly recommend is Reef Discovery for the big manta rays and a few other different spots than the Lagoon Services stops.

@heyTRVLwithME
@heyTRVLwithME 2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! I can't recall the exact amount. But I don't think it was nearly as high as what's normal in the US tipping culture because tipping is just a nice gesture in Tahiti, nothing more.

Great Video. We are headed there next week! A couple questions if you don't mind - Did you take a Drone (saw what looks like Drone footage)? I though those were illegal in Bora Bora (or at least you had to have a license to do it). Also Curious about tipping. Did you tip the "bellhop" when you got there? Did you also tip the tour group guys?
@heyTRVLwithME
@heyTRVLwithME 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching our video! First, so excited for you guys to be there soon! I was losing my sleep due to excitement a week before our trip haha. I don't mind questions at all and will try to answer as best as I can. Be prepared for a long reply :) Regarding drone, it's not entirely "illegal" to fly drone in Bora Bora. The airport and the surrounding areas are strictly restricted. This includes many resorts like Le Bora Bora, Four Seasons, St. Regis, etc. I haven't been to the two Intercontinentals, Meridien, and others. But for the comfort of their guests, I'm sure they also prohibit the use of drones while on the premises. Aforementioned areas will require a license and authorization. However, it is fine to fly them while you're on the main island, or non-restricted areas. I planned beforehand so that I could fly it at the south and west sides of the island (the airport is north and the flight path is east-ish). Another thing I tried to keep in mind is how many people there are. While it's certainly not illegal, I don't want to intrude people. So I try to fly where there are as few people as possible and if there are a lot of people, fly high so the camera can't make out their faces and they can't hear the drone noise. Tips. That's a great question because it can be a bit tricky for folks like us who are accustomed to the US tipping culture. Someone recently asked me the same question. This answer is purely based on my experiences and observation. It's a different culture and simply put, tipping is not necessary. Everyone provides their best service without trying to get tip. From what I know, their wages are pretty good compared to the US hospitality and tourism industry. With housekeeping, beach attendants, tour guides, etc., what I experienced was if I say "thank you" with expressive gratitude and a big smile, they were very happy. With that said, their service was so good, we couldn't help but to personally hand our tip to them while saying something like "you deserve a drink after work" or something like that. So as to not make them feel like they should accept our tip, but to show our genuine gratitude. It certainly doesn't have to be 15-20% like in the US. Resorts generally have 'gratuity' line for you to fill out at restaurants and other services to make it easy by putting everything on your room tab. You may see that tips are more common at the resorts where there are many guests from the US. In other areas that are local or have guests from other countries/culture, tipping is not common. We saw this while in Tahiti and Mo'orea islands as we spent a good chunk of our time in local establishments. Again, it's not necessary and should you choose to tip, doesn't have to be 20%. It's based on how you feel and they'll provide their best service no matter what. Specific to your question, we probably did tip bellhops but I can't say that I remember honestly. We were too excited and so many things were going through our head. I do remember tipping the tour folks. Their livelihood don't depend on tips like we might in the US. But they were soooo good and we felt they deserved a little something to treat themselves. They were almost taken aback and extremely grateful. Sorry this isn't a simple yes/no question but hopefully it helps!

Did you have a preference in room type at the four seasons? We are thinking of the beach view over water bungalow since it is cheaper but are concerned about the water being too shallow for jumping
@heyTRVLwithME
@heyTRVLwithME Жыл бұрын
Hi! As you saw in this video, we were in the first bungalow and the water only came up to stomach/chest. So diving would be dangerous. Jumping was ok for me since I soft landed on my legs. The first time we went to Bora Bora, we thought we'd be jumping off our deck everyday all day. But honestly, we were done after 30 min of jumping lol. We only wanted to jump just to try it and for the experience of it. When we planned our second Bora Bora trip, we knew we wouldn't want to pay extra for mountain or lagoon view rooms for various reasons (not that they're bad), including deep water. Beach view was perfect. If you know you or your party love jumping and will do it over and over, day after day, maybe it's worth the extra few hundred dollars a night. If I were to go back again (God please), I'd choose Beach view again. My response is long enough already so I don't want to bore you. But if you'd like to know the reasons as to why I'd choose Beach vs Mountain, let me know and I'd be happy to share my thoughts.

Did you buy the meal plan for 3 meals a day(Breakfast, lunch, dinner)? Was all the food that you show included as part of the menu in the meal plan?
@heyTRVLwithME
@heyTRVLwithME Жыл бұрын
Hi! We bought a meal plan but it isn't for all three meals. Breakfast was included in the vacation package we bought. But if you purchase each breakfast meal, it's roughly $60 USD per person and almost everything is included (i.e. buffet, chef's special, smoothie, juice, coffee, coconut water, etc.). Lunch isn't part of a meal plan and I don't think FS has a meal plan that includes lunch (I could be wrong). Each lunch came out to roughly $100 USD total for two of us, ordering two entrees, maybe an extra side, and water. Lunch is served only at the Fare Hoa beach bar. If you order lunch to your bungalow or anywhere else other than the beach bar, there's a delivery surcharge of about $25 if my memory serves correctly. We purchased dinner meal plan because it made sense for us, while it may not be for others. Dinner meal plan serves one appetizer, one main, and one dessert per person, and can be used at all three dinner restaurants. It's worth buying the dinner meal plan if you actually order all three items per person. But if you plan on ordering one app to share, one main per person, and one dessert to share, then meal plan isn't valuable. Drinks are not included in the meal plan. Hope this helps!

But if you're thinking about using points to pay for hotels or flights, then that would be better. CostcoTravel is one of the best if I'm paying cash. The total for EVERYTHING is about $25,000 USD for the two of us. This includes the following: roundtrip flights from LAX to Tahiti interisland flights and ferry between Tahiti, Mo'orea, and Bora Bora 3 nights in Mo'orea Sofitel, 4 nights in Four Seasons Bora Bora, 4 nights in St Regis Bora Bora boat shuttle from Four Seasons to St Regis food on all islands car rental in Mo'orea shark + stingray private tour on BB ATV tour on BB main island Helmet dive on BB a couples massage in private rooms in Four Seasons and St Regis and other minor miscellaneous things...

@heyTRVLwithME
@heyTRVLwithME Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the compliment! Yep, I flew the drone myself and the laws are strict. It's a small island and the area around the airport is restricted. The resorts on the east side, like Four Seasons and St Regis, are located on the flight path so they're also restricted unless authorized. Most resorts prohibit drone for privacy reasons, as well. Depending on the weight of the drone, rules are different.

Hi! We feel the same way about legitimacy of all the packages out there. Unless you're planning to use points for hotels and flights, we highly recommend Costco Travel. Hi John! Thanks for watching. You're gonna have an awesome time. Sure thing. Private lagoon snorkeling tour was around $800 and you can have up to 10-ish people in your group. They pick you up from the resort around 9AM and drop you off by 3PM, so roughly 6 hours. There are other options available, like group instead of private, shorter hours. The link to the excursion company is in the description. I'd recommend checking the prices of group (non-private) vs private because if you have more than 4 people (I think), the price is the same so private is the way to go.

Is it a lot better than St Regis ?
@heyTRVLwithME
@heyTRVLwithME Жыл бұрын
Hi! It's really difficult to say one is "better" than the other. There are individual things we personally liked more at each resort. Here's a what we think of the two. St Regis has a bigger lagoonarium to snorkel and it has tons of more fish. The spa has a more modern and newer feel to it. The beach has a few more activities than Four Seasons, like sail boat, water bike, motorized paddle board, floaties, etc. They both have kayak, canoe, and paddleboard. St Regis' signature butler service sounds nice but quite honestly, it wasn't something significantly useful to us while it may be for others (I'd say we're on the lower maintenance side lol). They go all-in to make you feel like you're at a high-end luxurious resort, as they should. If you're planning to spend most of your time at the resort and do little-to-no excursions outside of the resort, then St Regis may be a better option. If you're planning for a good balance of your time at the resort and off the resort, or do at least one excursion every other day minimum, then Four Seasons could be better. Four Seasons resort is smaller and has a bit less to do around the resort compared to SR. But you might like that, especially if you don't want to walk too much to different parts of the resort, wait for shuttles, or riding bicycles. Four Seasons rooms feel more open and modern. The view of the mountain is unmatched because of the resort location. Every time we walk anywhere, we can't help but to be mesmerized by the majestic mountain behind the turquoise lagoon water. Their service felt more down-to-earth, "homey", and luxurious at the same time. They don't have a dedicated butler service like SR does, but they don't need that. They provide great service as SR but with all staff on deck to service you. Four Seasons' app is a nice feature. You just start a chat on the app for anything and everything and they're prompt with their responses. Regarding food, they're pretty equal considering everything. For breakfast, both resorts have buffet options and a la carte menu for a single fixed price. Selections are pretty much the same everyday for both. But Four Seasons has daily chef's specials which provides a bit more variety. Four Seasons has chilled coconut water included in the price while St Regis charges about $11 extra. So Four Seasons wins breakfast. For lunch, both have just about two options: the bar by the beach and in-room dining. In-room dining option has basically same items as the bar. St Regis has a bit more selections so St Regis wins lunch. For dinner, St Regis' Asian restaurant options were better and more filling. Four Seasons' French/Mediterranean restaurant wins for us because their Tomahawk is to die for! St Regis' French restaurant was a nice experience but portion size was too small for us. We felt like we needed a burger afterwards. Four Seasons has "fish themed night" once a week at the beach bar and the main dish has a variety of fish assortments, cooked in various styles. That was awesome and filling. St Regis' Italian restaurant was surprisingly great. We haven't tried Four Seasons' Wednesday Italian night dinner. We enjoyed St Regis' Polynesian dinner with a show on Wednesday. Servers bring everything on the menu and it's a sharing style while watching a Polynesian dance show. If you're planning to stay at Bora Bora for more than 10 days, the best thing to do is stay at both. I think 5-6 days at each resort can help you get the full experience you need. Since there are only 3-4 dinner restaurants at each resort, you might get tired of the food unless you plan on going to restaurants on the main island. Lastly, if I have to pick only one to recommend for someone who's never been to either one, then it will be Four Seasons. Not sure if it's because it was our first Bora Bora resort ever, or if it has sentimental values/memories, we just felt more comfortable at Four Seasons.

Staying at an AirBnb on the main island for the same number of nights will surely be in the $10k range, maybe even less. At the same time, staying at the best room in one of the luxury resorts can easily be $100k.
