We're Building a Supernatural Baby! Picking up a 1967 Chevy Impala 4 Door! From Lucore Automotive

THIS purchase has been YEARS in the making, having been a fan of the CW TV show Supernatural one of the stars you see in basically every episode is the 1967 Chevy Impala 4 Door also known as Baby... and we're going to build one!
A little back story for those who aren't familiar with this particular car. In the TV show it has basically become the "trusty steed" of Sam and Dean Winchester as they go about their Family Business of Saving People, Hunting Things. With a distinctive big block chevy rumble and the sounds of squeaking doors the boys ride from coast to coast plying their trade and pulling from an almost endless bag of evil destroying weaponry they have stashed in the trunk.
So what are WE starting with, well as you'll see in the video it's not EXACTLY perfect and complete. There is a bit of work to be done, and we aren't afraid to do it though let's be honest this is going to be a long term project car not a quick one week wrench.
Also as you can tell, I'm a liiiittle excited personally to be able to bring of these classic american cars back to life, and something completely outside our normal muscle car stuff! In its current original state this car was a 327 small block car with a 2 speed powerglide transmission, but in order to be a true "Hero" car like the big block Baby is we're going to have to go with something a little bigger and meaner... but FIRST have to get it loaded and back to our shop in Columbus Ohio to take stock of where we are starting from and get moving!

@@OozaruPulls It certainly isn't helping but honestly the big part holding us back is we're busy! Good problem to have I guess, but customers come first so our personally projects get pushed back a little bit. But, there WILL be another video update on this project coming relatively soon!

As a kid, I helped, and watched my dad cut up at least 4 of these to build racecars, we had around 8 of them at any time.. seems like a shame now that I am a supernatural fan. Lol

Unfortunately a LOT of these cars died over the years because they weren't what people collected or raced. As you said, MANY of them ended up being organ donors. This one is a long LONG way from being back in one piece but... the Journey begins! ;)

I've been wanting a '67 Impala for YEARS. I'm still hoping that I can either find one one day, or find something/someone who can build one. It'll be a challenge, but one can only hope

I understood exactly how you felt. I looked. Gave up for awhile. Found one 30 minute drive from my house. Hard to believe it was true. Jumped on it when I saw it. Just got last month after a 2 year hunt. Its cool you found it in pieces because you're going to have to strip it down anyways. Now for the project to begin and the bank account to shrink.

I LOVE how you admit you are a total nerd. ME TOO! I don't know if you already know this, but "Baby" is actually EIGHT 1967 Chevy Impalas. If I'm not mistaken, likewise, they are each powered by 327s in front of their 'automatics (TH-350s, most likely). Similar to how you point out, my animal-lover wife likes watching "The Dukes Of Hazzard" and "Smokey And The Bandit" with ME because she likes watching Flash and Fred, respectively. Just the same, I will HAPPILY watch "Supernatural" with HER on account of "Baby."

Nothing wrong with being a nerd at all! Yes I do lots of manly stuff as well but that doesn't mean I have to deny or hide my nerdy side! Really need to get back on this project unfortunately it's just been languishing with how busy we have been in the shop :( The build is going to go the route of the "Hero Car" which is a 502 big block powered one, no angry little small block for THIS baby!

The one thing you won't have for the restoration is the plate , CNK 80Q3 . That's a legally issued Ohio plate . Too bad . I hope that plate owner will one day put up a video showing the car that the plate is on . Would love to see that . Good luck with Baby .

May not be the most WISE of decisions I've ever made but bringing this Baby back to life will certainly be a life experience. And putting smiles on the faces of nerds everywhere whenever it goes for a cruise... but first! Lots and lots of work!

@@LucoreAuto I wish you luck. You could be creating something that hopefully you will enjoy for many years but could potentially still be around 100 years from now. Think of it. Using your talent to create what I consider to be an art piece that will be treasured and babied (pun intended) by generations. Creation is in itself an act of good. Really hope your vision comes a reality.

@@coniccinoc you nailed one of the major things that motivate us to build cars in general, and wanting to take this project on specifically. While these things are a passion and an asset the true payoff is the smiles waves and thumbs up from people who appreciate them being driven. While this car will no doubt cost a TON of time and money it will also be driven regularly, it's no fun leaving them in the garage! Plus... this is going to be a Hero 1 car so big block powered and plenty lots of tire roasting grunt so... drag strip and car shows will be a part of its regular life after rebirth

I got mine back in June I’m currently building my truck so I can sell it to finish the car it’s all original and runs and drives the 327 sounds great in it has 89k miles still has the GM stickers on the springs

Lucore Auto and LucoreRacing oh yeah weapons box and everything but mine is gonna be a mixture of the season 1 car and the hero car mostly differences are mines gonna be the 327 car and have the black window crank knobs and the weapons box is gonna be like the early car but I’m gonna add long side compartments for rifles and long things and it’s gonna have the devils trap on the bottom of the deck lid Mines actually a Caprice so I need to find impala side trim a buddy of mine has had 6-7 of these cars so I might be able to get the trim from him maybe I’m also gonna get the Coleman cooler and have it in the back seat this is gonna be my daily driver car I’m 18 and Im very good at trading and wheeling and dealing I have a total of a literal 2 dollar bill in this car but I paid $1,200 and a gave a double barreled shotgun for it all it needed to run was a battery and matching sparkplugs but I went ahead and got a new HEI distributor with red cap and I already had red spark plug wires I need to pull the rear of the car back out it has a slight dent it was backed into a pole at like 1 mph and I need to finish patched the floor a little bit and do around the back glass and I can put it back together and paint it black Also The car they show under the hood has 9 fin cal custom valve covers (327 car) hard to find

I want to start building movie replica cars so bad. I’ve always wanted to own one. Funny thing is I have a 74 trans am and everyone calls it a bandit car. Since it’s the wrong year and color (white and blue) it aggravates me lol.

There's a LOT that goes into it for sure, really becomes a labor of passion not profit at a certain point. The amount of money/time you will have wrapped up in a "True to screen" movie/show car can VERY easily outstrip what you could sell it for. We'll have... let's not talk about it :)

@@LucoreAuto Meg was a driver when we brought her home, but she had no floorboards and barely any brakes. The previous owner pulled the 396/TH-400 for use in his dump truck. He did put a '70 model 350/TH-350 combo back in its place. The 350 ran good, but used oil. I'll probably rebuild it to use in something else.

@@geraldbrown8711 That's honestly not that surprising to hear, MANY 4 doors of the era just became parts donors to their 2door/convertible cousins. On this project it's going to be much less about "Factory Original" and more about "Show Accurate"

@@LucoreAuto on the episode where Dean was sent back in time and convinced John Winchester to buy the Impala at Rainbow Motors, he described the '67 having a "327 with a 4 barrel carburetor". That's what inspired my build! I also prefer the Impala from the early seasons with spotlights....so Meg will have spotlights

This car has definitely been a dream build of mine since I first started watching the show years ago. There's a long hard (expensive) road ahead but the journey will be worth it! Getting your hands on a buildable 71 Chevelle won't be very cheap either!

OMG you guys are even cooler than I thought. I just got hooked on the show last month. Dean is riot! I call him a lovable asshole lol. I'm up to season 6 E10. I can't believe how hard they are to find now. I still want to send my Lemans over to you guys. Might as well get it up and running since a 67 Impala is out of the question.

Unfortunately we haven't had the time to get this monster moving forward really with all the work we've had done. It's going to be a VERY expensive build to do it right so, and there's no way we aren't doing this the right way. There WILL be more on this project coming soon though ;) Actually will have a video update coming here soon.

@@dreamingcode realistically it depends on how much we have to do. It's always tricky to schedule larger projects. We should have the two remaining BIG projects wrapped up by the second week of January then.. we could honestly probably get you in at that point. Waiting on motors to show up for 2 builds right now.

Oh it's certainly not going to be cheap, and it's definitely going to be challenging. A lot of parts and pieces of these things are extremely rare then when you start hunting down props and such.. even more so. Best guess at this point, will probably have $20,000 or so in getting this done, plus the purchase price of the car.

Do you know how much it would cost to get a nice supernatural car or how much to restore one to the supernatural conditon?

Honestly it really really depends. In the classic car world you have huge ranges of quality and expectation. Are you wanting to build a show perfect car with perfect paint? Are you wanting a driver that may not be 100% perfect but you wouldn't ve scared having on the road and going cruising in. Also, WHICH version do you want to build? We're actually going to discuss that a little in an upcoming video. There are several different cars they use in the show, not just the 1 Star/Hero car. MOST of those are 327 small block cars with powerglide transmissions however the Hero car is a big block and much more of a monster. THAT is what we are building. Now with all that said what would one of these cars go for? Depending on setup and condition... somewhere between $20,000 - $40,000

@@e117f If you are willing to put that much money into one, you could certainly find them for sale on occasion that have been done well. There is a shop in the US that does "true show cars" that has made a few over the years, several of his have traded hands in the 30s range. They aren't easy to find for sure! Sometimes you can get lucky and find one "already done" but.. not often. Keep hunting!

Hey guys it has taken me a while and passing on 4 other cars but I found one running for 2800 bucks but it is the sedan not the hard top but still its my baby. 😁😁

Oh definitely still have the car, it's going to be a long expensive process bringing this Baby back to life but eventually we'll be able to cruise it!

@@LucoreAuto sweet! I know that’s a good price, mine is all put together original motor etc Arizona car and comes with spare weather stripping and Crome and extra doors no rust for 2000! So I am extremely excited
