With crews working to dismantle the former suborbital tank farm and make way for a second launch pad, SpaceX performs a full stack wet dress rehearsal this week. Scrapping also continues on the orbital tank farm's old vertical cryo tanks, and segments for the next launch tower continue arriving at the Sanchez site. Meanwhile, at Cape Canaveral, a special delivery arrives aboard a French cargo vessel while SpaceX continues along with Starlink launch and recovery operations.

I never thought I'd see the day that there were two launches in 24 hours and from the same pad never the less. It was so rare as a child to watch a shuttle or other rocket take off anywhere. I'm blown away by the frequency of launches and landings. Real progress on a human scale.

These awesome updates feel like science fiction becoming reality. Finally. Humanity has waited decades for aerospace technological development to happen at the pace of early aviation development, or early automotive development. We had a 50 year interruption in aerospace before SpaceX took the reins. There is currently a lot of scrapping but it feels like early development that needed to happen as part of the learning process that is inevitable when developing new technology, that's now being corrected as development continues along the corrected path. Flight 4 soon and I can't wait! Huge thanks to LabPadre for each of these extremely valuable weekly updates. Future aerospace historians will find these videos to be extremely valuable.

I worked at Austrak - concrete sleeper manufacturer at Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia a (quite a) few years ago. We used a 3 tonne overhead crane to move the tensioner wires around; it was controlled by a cable controller, and standing under was deriguer. The hook broke, wireless control was instigated and nobody, but nobody, was allowed under any slung loads! Can't remember if any died when the hook let go, but I think it would have been a "brown trouser" event!

It’s a good idea, but likely not something SpaceX would like to tackle directly as they have more important things to do, however, if an organization was formed ready to take on the task, it might be well received assuming it was carefully and correctly assembled.

That's been mentioned about 2k times on various KZfaq channels and I know someone down in Boca Chica asked Musk about if it was possible to get pieces off of scrapped Starships skin sold to collectors but only got a "Hmmm" and nothing further.

Thanks for the update, Lab. „More than 900 deliveries of propellant since the last IFT.“ Only some seconds of narration, but the amount of time to figure out that number must be insane. Is there sitting somebody in front of the life cameras counting the trucks? Or did you simply ask Elon?

900 Tanker deliveries since 14Th March. That's over 12/day. There isn't that much demand for the fuelling of a starship. 90th Maybe? That would be more like it to fuel up another test. Even that seems high...

Wonder if it is the removal of the vertical tanks that hold up the launch.
@mrflippant
@mrflippant 21 күн бұрын
Nope; they've completely migrated launch GSE operations from the vertical tanks to the newer horizontal tanks, as evidenced by the full-stack wet dress rehearsal they did this week. They also have at least a week until the expected launch date, and only two of the vertical tanks remaining. At a rate of about two days per tank (seems to take one full day to remove and scrap the 12m shell, and one full day to remove and scrap the 9m tank), with only two of the vertical tanks left that's more than enough time to get it done. Even if they don't get them scrapped before the launch, it's not as if they're in the way or anything - just got to secure the site and equipment and get the crane moved and they're good.

I wonder how long it will be before they nuke the new employee bathroom at the launch site for some tank installation or something. They already got rid of the nice parking lot and getting rid of the nice wall. They sure do change things a lot but I guess that is par for the course.
