A friend asked me to help out his buddy. The buddy had a hive near a family's primary residence. I was told the hive had been usurped and gone from mostly docile to very defense africanism bees.
We usually will not buy mean bees, it just make sense in our operation. If I have time I will usually re-home the bees if the owner just wants them removed, otherwise the pretty much face death at this point. So we take them, put the brood to work elsewhere. Give the remaining colony a chance to to re-queen with a grafted cell or just shake them out in a large yard.
These bees turned out to be great. I'm not sure why they were labeled "Africanized". In afterthought I wish I had keep them more in tact. I went ahead with my original plan. We made 3 splits from the 9 frames of capped brood. The original still may swam, but as of now she is laying. We will re-queen them in a month or two.
These bees are really good, not sure why they were labeled as such.
