It can be frustrating to get several developer interviews followed up with constant rejection. Are you doing something wrong? Maybe? Probably. That doesn’t mean you aren’t doing a lot of things right. Rejection will be very common in 2023.
In this short episode, we talked about quite a bit in an attempt to try and identify what Nonso could improve with - Creating a connection with the interviewer, resume tips, personal project tips, networking, meetups, hackathons, and other job search strategy tips. If you get a chance to watch or listen to the whole episode, feel free to share your own advice with Nonso!

Hiring is a joke, this dude is laser focused and they choose to hire everything else.

The market was just not favorable towards him. He knew his onions. Pity that people who lie and can’t do the job land the jobs, but the ones that have the skills but aren’t boastful in overselling themselves are sidelined. Hiring Managers can be weird at times.

Most responses or denials from HR are just robots. Don't take offense to those emails.

A lot of times they already have an h1-b candidate they want to hire but just need to fill the requirement of interviewing locals and claiming they couldn’t find anyone so they can go forward with the h1-b person. It wastes the time of everyone involved but that is the process.

H1-B will cost more, right ? or there is some catch ?

@@anikets4699 The H1B will be willing to work for less and they will also be less likely to switch companies.

What logical sense would that make when it’ll cost them more in the long term?

Is it possible, that, since managers also want job security, that they may not want someone that would solve the entire problem or complete the project too fast, that ultimately put everyone out of work ? Do they like to chug along with milestones stretching out to infinity?

The issue with this is that any competent, quality company will sniff out managers like that and fire or demote them. Especially in tech. Software always has a bunch of seasoned developers looking through the code, and if shit is always late or incomplete come deadline, expect C-level management to go straight to the devs, and figure out what is slowing everything down.

What about people being intimidated by his previous position?

I think a big part of it is people went to college so they want you to go to college. And I do get that if you spend 4 years to get a job it does show a lot of commitment and I'm sure you learn a lot of good stuff in college. But you can learn a lot of good stuff without college too just harder to prove to others You're capabilities.

Yeah but people overlook the theory and performance knowledge that comes with a degree. You can't just pick that stuff up on the job, or from a little project. It's more secure to invest in someone who is "accredited" and already dedicated a significant chunk of their life to the field

I wonder if it may have been their way of suggesting that they didn’t think the solution was his own.
