In this episode of We're in Between, Patricia and Casey discuss about the 44th episode of As Told by Ginger "Wicked Game". Taking place a few months after the events of "Far From Home", Ginger returns home from Avalanche Arts Academy and has dedicated all her time and attention to Darren ignoring Dodie and Macie. Miranda and Mipsy are also jealous of the relationship since they can't tease Ginger. So, the 4 girls work together to break up Ginger and Darren. Meanwhile, Noelle bets Carl to a girl named Polly Shuster to a card game and loses so he has to play "Parrot World" with her all weekend with Blake taking pictures of them to blackmail them.
Many fans consider "Wicked Game" to be the worst episode of the series. Do Patricia and Casey agree? Listen and find out.

The episode is not bad, Dodie was 100% not out of character, is actualy quite decent but the problem is how is barely adressed after. Something like that should had a big impact and it didn't , as if the writters didn't know how to deal with what comes next a friendship betrayal

I think Dodie trying to sabotage the relationship between Ginger and Darren was wrong but I understand her feelings behind it. I can see how she was upset because Ginger was spending more time with Darren and less with her and Macie and making her feel that Ginger didn’t care about her anymore. Dodie should of at least told Ginger how she was feeling instead of stabbing her in the back.

I really don't understand why there was never a wrap up to this episode; usually ATBG is pretty good with continuity and yet all we get is a reference to this episode in a future episode but never a conclusion to how everything got resolved. This episode really wouldn't have been that bad if there was a follow-up; when I first saw this I thought I missed an episode touching on the ending but was left so confused that there never was one.

Thanks for your comment. I’m currently rewatching the series on Paramount+ and honestly thought either I or they missed an episode and was seriously confused as to how everything is ok in the following episode. 🤦🏻‍♂️

First off...WHAT...THE...HELL?! No wonder people hate this episode! Dodie and Macey had no reason to mess with Ginger's relationship with Darren. If my friends tried that on me, I would erase them from my life! I almost lost a friend in high school when this one other girl, who was one of her "other friends" framed her by making me believe that she hates and envies me and gossips about me, (i.e- She thinks I'm stupid, too tall etc.) It took me a day to realize that she framed my friend just for her to say it to my face and fortunately my friend understood how awful she was. This episode made me relive the same anger and confusion I felt! I would give it a Nay, if it wasn't for Courtney being loyal to Ginger.

This episode shows that while Courtney may not be a good student, she's NOT dumb on a social level because she made a great plan for Miranda to spill the beans about "Operation G-D".

This is one of my favorite episodes because this dynamic happens all the time in high school, and might I say, through out our gender's whole life.. .Women tend to have a harder time finding friend time verses time with their partner. However, there is this extreme high school reaction where Dodie and Macie team up with their enemies to destroy Darren. I will agree, I was disappointed with Macie.. However I did feel like she was talked into it....Yet it was still odd because so often she is the voice of reason.. It felt weird to me that she was talked into it.... I also dislike the lack of closer... I REALLY feel that Ginger should have parted ways with dodie and Macie at least for a few episodes and become closer friends with Courtney. Then gradually she could have let Macie back in and possibly let dodie in in the future, or honestly not at all.... Dodie NEVER changes... she is a constantly back stabbing and selfish..... Letting her back into her life again and again was very foolish on Ginger's part.

Dodie & Macie learned that Ginger and Darren were an item at the end of the last episode. Why the surprise at the changed group dynamic? You'd think they'd be HAPPY for Ginger. I suppose Ginger could have reached out with a "listen girls, Darren's a part of my life now, but this won't change the fact that we are BFFs..." Yes, Macie usually has it together, but she's a follower, and thus got caught up in all the scheming... As we all agree, Dodie SUCKS as a friend. IMHO, Courtney is the BEST OF FRIENDS to Ginger - at least in this episode! I remember first seeing this episode and searching for other copies online - I was SURE closing remarks by Ginger were cut off somehow. Perhaps they handled it all off-camera, and agreed to "never speak of this"? Not as satisfying, I realize... "Polly the Bird Girl" - Noelle, what were you thinking? Carl must really care for you to tolerate that arrangement. Mipsy flossing in public? EW...

Darren was already part of her life before they became a couple. they all were friends. so he wasn't part of her life now. but yea its understandable theyd want girl time too. group dynamics change. look at family dynamics too when new kids are born, stepfamilies, someone moves out etc

This episode really boosts Courtney 's character for me. I wish Ginger gave Courtney a chance to be closer after Courtney came in so clutch. Also, irl friendship circles change. You outgrow people and I really think after a stunt like that you need to evaluate. I get that Ginger is loyal but part of growing up involves setting healthy boundaries. A missed opportunity I think to impart for young viewers. I would have loved the girls to make up in the end but to still see that lesson.

The follow up episode (The Easter Ham) is my least favorite. The art style is suddenly back to season 1? So much happens in Wicked Game and none of it (in the Ginger plot anyway) is never addressed again with the exception of a throw away line from Courtney in Easter Ham.

So I didn’t hate this episode, It had good suspense to it and it show something of an insight that happens to middle/high school students. I’ve seen early teenagers engage in conspiracy like plots to break up couples and friendships get tested and broken. Macie was never much of a leader so I could see her giving into peer pressure at least once in her life. It’s a decent reflection on teenage life but, I gotta admit it did seem strange that Ginger forgave them so easily. It very much seems like something is missing or as if the creators left it up to the audiences imagination of how the resolution came to be if true that would be a major cop-out.

I LOVED this episode. But I HATED that it had almost no meaning, because Ginger, Dodie and Macie made up off-screen, and in the very next episode, they acted as if nothing happened. It felt like I missed an episode or two. WTF? Also, Courtney was Ginger's most loyal friend, and it was a missed opportunity for the show not to further her relationship with Ginger even more.

I'm really disappointed in Macy too! It was a little out of character, don't you think? But I kinda understand why she just got along with the whole evil plan... maybe she just felt she had to choose a side, I don't know. Anyway, it was a bad decision. I liked how Courtney was a good friend to Ginger, though. But yeah... this episode gave me a sad feeling at the end.

Worst episodes? Why because Dodie and Macy plot against Ginger? That's insane. Disagreeing with how the charaxters behave does not make the episode bad. Also, this episode not being followed up is not an inflection on the episode itself. It is by far one of the best episodes of the series in many ways. Story telling wise, pacing, and while the Ginger plot is not solved on screen long term this episode has a few seeds planted that carry long term particularly the Noelle/Carl/Polly plot as it leads to the eventual end of Carl/Noelle. The way that they do the cuts at the end of the episode are unique to it and add to the drama, and the emotion you feel for Ginger at the very end is arguably unparalleled to any other story than maybe the death of Mrs. Gordon. This episode makes you feel angry, sad, it makes you laugh, and therefore it accomplished imo. Idk who sees this as one of the worst but that's insane. Dodie being wicked? Shocker.... yes Macie being involved is ACTUALLY shocking but there is such a realism here. I have actually went through the male version of this which involved a friend I would have never suspected so this is real life right here. Plus I LOVE how Courtney has Ginger's back here and is in the awkward overhearing the plot situation. Shows her growth as a character.

On one hand it can be interesting to see a friendship get tested, it can be some real human turmoil, but, to not give it a proper conclusion really spoils it. It was also a let down to see Ginger befriend courtney more I mean if an acquaintance uncovered a plot against you, wouldn't you want to be their friend? I can see why this episode is hated but, at least I somewhat enjoyed the ride shame none of it had a pay off of any kind. So i give it light meh but, leaning towards nay.

Im rewatching the series and this episode REALLY pissed me off. First off, Miranda and Mipsy are pure EVIL. They really have no reason to hate Ginger, yet they do and try to do whatever they can to bring her down. It's stupid. Second, instead of Dodie and Macie being happy for Ginger and Darren's new relationship, they get upset and jealous and work with the enemy to break them up. Like wtf?? What kind of friends do that?? They should have talked about it. But also Ginger was in the honeymoon phase with Darren, so cut her some slack. Courtney was the real friend in this episode. The phone call when they got busted made me so happy and made them all look like fools. My heart broke seeing Ginger so hurt when all of this could have been avoided if they had just beem happy for her in the first place. Ginger is waaayyy too forgiving because I'd be giving them the silent treatment for a long time after pulling some mess like that......in the next ep its like nothing happened and everything is peachy again. UGHHHHH!! these two episodes really got me mad. But what a great discussion guys!👏👏😁

You mentioned Mr. Krabs betting Spongebob in a card game against Plankton once right? If I remember right, he actually bet Spongebob's employment contract, not Spongebob himself. Since Plankton now had the contract, at least in the logic of the cartoon world, Spongebob was now obligated to work for Plankton at the Chum Bucket. And given how hopelessly devoted Spongebob is to Mr. Krabs, the fact that Krabs made the deal all but guaranteed that Spongebob would go along with it; he'd never go against something Krabs set up unless it was morally wrong on a level that even his abiding personality couldn't ignore; IE torturing the Jellyfish during the jelly patty episode, the whole "Krabby the Klown" thing, and a few others. I never wanted Ginger to lose her temper more than I did during the climax of this episode. Dodie's always been on my sh*t list when it comes to this show; but my God she went straight into "I only want bad things to happen to you" territory here. Miranda and Mipsy are always terrible; so them doing this is nothing new. But Macie and Dodie are supposed to be Ginger's friends and they're siding with people who conspired to have ginger move to a boarding school LAST FREAKING EPISODE!!! I mean come on! God, no wonder I always preferred Courtney to either of them.

I can only say, many girls get “dizzy “ once they start dating. That’s why when I was in my early teens, I barely delt with them. 🤷🏾‍♀️. I didn’t start becoming close with women until I was in my mid-20’s because by 😂that time they’re mature enough for the balance.

This episode is pretty disappointing, but remember there was that one episode called Blame it on Bendy in Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, and Rebecca Sugar admitted she regretted it. Now That was a bad episode. And "No Bones About It" in early Rugrats where Grandpa Lou neglects the babies and they get chased around by a creepy security guard named Big Sally (transgender, butch?). Rugrats had probably 10 more Bad Episodes. In Hey Arnold there were a few bad episodes, like Big Patty falls in love with Harold, and Harold loses/gains/loses/gains weight, and Arnold tutors Torvald, Sid uses Arnold's room to impress Lorenzo, Iggy with the bunny pajamas, Halloween alien makeup disaster. Powerpuff Girls had some bad ones too. And Johnny Bravo and Ed Edd N Eddy. Every animated cartoon series has that One Mistake. A lot of Sitcoms do too, I apologize if I offend anyone, but I'm sure Friends, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, 8 Simple Rules, Rossanne, Cheers, and Punky Brewster all had their fair share of mistakes.

well what a way to go from such a great TV movie, man where do began with this episode well first why do Miranda & mipsy care, they hate ginger also they kina get what they want in this episode which is ginger not hang out with Cortney which she doesn't because of Darren so if anything they should be happy that ginger was, in dealing with them because they could had Cortney all to them self's and speaking of Cortney the only good character in this episode I so glad when Cortney stood up to Miranda & mipsy and trick them, I known it probably wont happen but I wish it did. what I would like to see happen is Cortney get rid of Miranda and become apart of ginger's group. and as carl and hoodie plot, just forget about it, I not even to talk about this comment is already too long so I done with my thoughs

This episode is a massive letdown and the events are brought up in passing such as in "The Easter Ham" and while this is one of the show's worst episodes and one of my least favorites for sure, it actually isn't the worst. There's another episode in Season 3 far worse than this one and showcases Dodie in an even worse light. (probably at her worst) And Dodie doesn't really get better from this, even in the next episode *The Easter Ham* and the last few episodes of Season 3 she gets much worse on the negative side. However I can see where Casey is coming from it's a very realistic drama that happens, while in character it doesn't make Dodie or Macie any more likable as characters and it does leave a lot to be desired in both consistency and follow through. One thing I will admit this episode did bring to the table was showcasing Courtney's development as a character, as we see in this episode she seems more distant from her usual popular crowd and seems to be more onto her caring side for Ginger and her naive mannerisms of the world around her. Courtney keeps this throughout the season. What also makes this a shame is that Miranda pretty much becomes less relevant after this, making this scheme all the more pointless. And they were very Out of character. I agree that kids overreact, but there is no sense of conclusion or realism into the characters overreacting, it just seems them being very bitter for little reasoning other than "everything revolves around Ginger"
