so the cold is going to damage your batteries unless you have them warming like a heating pad . or what is the recomention?

It only damages them if you charge lithium when they are well under freezing temps. Under 32°. There are warmers, there are also temperature probes that you can connect to your charge controller that will stop the charge if temps are in the danger zone.
