On Thursday the 8th of May 2024, Piers Morgan’s interview with Fiona Harvey, the woman identified as the inspiration for stalker Martha Scott in the hit Netflix drama Baby Reindeer, was published to KZfaq. In just five days, the video gained an eye-watering 10 million views from around the world and left viewers with more questions than answers. In this debate Imarn Ayton, Chris Daw, Officer Tatum and Andy Signor wonder aloud whether Netflix could face legal trouble as well as whether Piers should’ve given Fiona a platform at all. Significantly, lawyer Chris Daw explains that he’s considering taking Fiona Harvey’s case!

Something is seriously wrong with the woman on the panel; she's constantly interrupting, behaving childishly and INSISTING that Netflix made it "abundantly clear" that creative license had been used with the script even MOMENTS after watching a clip where the Netflix representative states to the court that it is a true story.

Netflix played this quite cleverly knowing that the vast majority of us never watch all the rolling credits till the end and that the next episode is automatically uploaded. Although it states at the beginning of each episode that Baby Reindeer was a true story, it also states at the end of each episode the following; “This program is based on real events: however certain characters, names, incidents, locations and dialogue have been FICTIONALIZED for dramatic purposes.

I saw that as well. I think that is why this woman on the panel is not giving in to the majority opinion that it was only portrayed as a true story. She is right with that point. Unfortunately all of the other panelists were ill informed and should have done more research by looking at ALL of the disclaimers in the Series.

Interesting. As you said, the episodes roll one after the after without the end credits being seen. If it does have a disclaimer then Fiona does not have a case although they still are trying to say that only things irrelevant to the story have been fictionalised. Obviously they won’t use real names etc. that’s a given. Completely different to showing someone being given a jail sentence if that never actually occurred. So, YES it is actually a True Story BUT has been dramatised. I fear Fiona will not have any luck sueing Netflix esp as they didn’t actually create the program. But I think that maybe she deserves a percentage of the money made from it at the very least.

She kept interrupting to state the blindingly obvious about her 'approach' as though she was being revelatory. She was way too personal and emotional in what was fundamentally an academic/debate setting. Randomly flattering guests, like a second hand car sales person, as if they needed her special seal of approval for very basic comments - then literally simultaneously putting them down in the same breath. Seminally passive aggressive. Further, she was constantly attempting to make her 'approach' seem industrially philosophical, and 'savvy' - treating us to a gratuitous 'window dressing' commentary regarding her every utterance. All she did was repeat one assertion, about fiction and nuance. She's evidently never been in a Court of Law. 'Nuance' won't cut the rump there. She seems like your classic 'grandiose infantile' with 'guru status syndrome'. She also appears to equate that adding A level Drama facial expressions, dance moves, animation and almost (god forbid) song, to her repeated statement, would somehow make her assertions more relevant? I quite expected her to say... 'I'll now tell ye all- but through the medium of dance' ...and get up and perform a Ballet Rambert-esque interpretation of how clever she thought her basic approach was. It's not RADA, it's a news show. The others were very classy around this complex and emotive dynamic. I wish we could have heard more from them. Refreshing to see Andy away from Pop-corned Planet/Royals and Markle Zzz. He is a great guest and you're right Piers, an erudite entertainment pundit. More please! 👍

I can't stand when people do that crap, opression mentality only holds races back. My brother always pulls that BS and it drives me insane. I'm half mexican, and italian, not black, but same stuff is pulled in our race as well. Oppression mentality doesn't help any race. I hate people thinking I need some type of handout, or I'm too dumb to talk on my behalf and need some woke person to do it for me. I'd rather just have someone call me a slur and move on, it honestly, 100%, is less insulting.

Imarn Ayton does not like facts. At the beginning of the Baby Reindeer Netflix series it states that it is a true story, not based on a true story and not inspired by a true story. If it is a true story (like Netflix claims) then everything in the show has to be true other wise it can't be called a true story. I don't understand why Imarn Ayton can't wrap that around her head? Either Netflix and Richard Gadd are lying or Fiona Harvey is lying and without any evidence of a criminal record or prison sentence for Fiona Harvey being found, my conclusion is Netflix and Richard Gadd are lying.

Netflix does put in the first episode “this is a true story”, but at the end of the episode when the credits roll out, they state that however “character, names, incidents, locations, and dialogue have been factionalized for dramatic purposes”. Like most “based on a true story” shows and movies I’ve watched.

I am a Black British woman and this is so difficult to watch. Getting a platform to share our voice is hard enough for us. This woman has used her platform to demonstrate disrespect, unprofessionalism, and is consistently interrupting, overtalking and raising her voice. I am literally cringing. I can’t bear it, I don’t think I can watch the whole video. How can we be expected to be taken seriously, and take part in the conversation when we have a woman like this representing the rest of us. It's unfair that one woman can represent us but the fact is, the next time, they decide to ask another Black woman I am pretty sure this interview will be considered, I am embarrassed and I am frustrated because now she has me siding with Piers in this instance.
