52:08 nah. Hard disagree Nate. Nintendo is a lot of things, but "boring" or predictable is not one of them. They innovate and have interesting new releases and ideas constantly. Just look at what theyre doing with Echoes of Wisdom and this mysterious new Emio game.

For me this is the Golden era. Indies pumping out a ridiculous number of killer titles every year is the difference for me.

The fact Hoyo games like Genshin Impact weren't mentioned during the mobile gaming question shocked me. Their games are huge and immersive. Sure there's gacha but the world and cinematics are there.

I grew up as a child during the 16 bit and 32/64 bit generations, and teen during the sixth generation. I feel they were a great time for games. Classic series which started in the third generation on 8 bit consoles were improved upon with their 16 bit sequels, such as Super Metroid, Link To The Past, Mario World, Castlevania IV/TNG/ROB, Contra III/Hard Corps, FFIV-VI, etc. While still classics themselves, most 8 bit games which had 16 bit sequels were bettered by them. Then, the following generation is when the previous two 2D generations were taken to the next level in 3D - Mario 64, Ocarina, etc. That generation also saw the start of great new series such as RE, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, Tomb Raider, etc, plus older series which began back in the 8 bit days but weren't famous yet globally finally saw huge worldwide success, including Metal Gear, FF. As much as I enjoy games now, I feel that the fifth generation was the most influential, revolutionary, and exciting.

Hey there Nate and MVG, greetings from Mexico. As for a TV show based on a videogame topic, I think Assassin's Creed would be good. I really don't like the games that much, but the lore and historic moments are great and I think it would work more than what the games have done with the story... Like, every season could be a different era.

My main problem with this generation is that it doesn't feel truly new. We have so many cross-generation games holding back the potential of the new consoles that, by the time Sony releases the Pro version of the PS5, it will feel like the real next generation rather than just an update.

The N64/PS1 - PS2/XB/GCN was definitely the Golden Era, but I think 2007 was the best year of game releases in history. Just look at all the brand new IPs that launched that year & went on to become huge franchises: - Bioshock - Mass Effect - Crysis - Uncharted - The Witcher - Assassin's Creed - Rock Band - Portal - Skate Think about all these games being NEW & their variety, and then remember all the great sequels we got on top of these: - Halo 3 - CoD 4: Modern Warfare (the one that kicked off the CoD revolution) - Metroid Prime 3 - Super Mario Galaxy - Team Fortress 2 - God of War 2 (the OG) - Ratchet & Clank (Size Matters & Tools of Destruction) And so much more! 2007 was insane, and it'll always be my favorite year in gaming.

Sony needs to make an offical report on how many ps2's were sold, last reported number was > 155. And why wouldn't they have already done so? So they could manipulate numbers if they ever got close with a future sysyem? I dont really care, but they need an official number.

Evil company doing genetic experiments. Monsters attack humans trying to escape an island. They even have a helicopter come save them at the end. Just change dinosaurs for zombies and Ingen for Umbrella and you got a Blockbuster.

I’ve never really been one in the camp of Windwaker/Twilight Princess coming to Switch. Especially after seeing all of the other Zelda games available on the Switch currently (new, old, remasters, etc) it doesn’t make much sense to have such a plethora of 3D Zelda’s available when they could easily save it for the next system as a gap/filler title. That makes way more sense.

I was so mad when one day I turned my Xbox one on and went to snap KZfaq and I couldn’t do it. Used that feature every single day, was the best when I was playing games that took no real thought or I didn’t have to pay attention.

I like these podcasts and the cadence doesn’t matter to me, but I do wish there were timestamps. 2 hours is a long time to sit listening to talking points a person might not be interested in, timestamps would be a godsend for those of us with limited schedules

i gotta take issue with you when you title this video this way.. and call games "products" We as gamers do not call them "Products" we do not use that terminology at all.. only the big wig corporate publishers do. We tend to view games as an experience

The most important thing with a podcast is consistency.. be it once a month or bi-monthy, whatever you can hit. It's the randomness that makes this not grow as much. I don't mean that harshly, schedule for when you can! But podcasts are repeat timings for people who listen or engage with them, and if that isn't reliable they will just find one that is. (nobody wants to check a channel constantly to figure if it's there)

Something you forgot about the switch sales topic is Nintendo has yet to give a price drop to the switch family of systems like Sony did with the PS2 at $100 at the end of its life. I think it is very possible for Nintendo to do a price drop. If that happens it will pass the PS2 pretty easily imo.

I'm old enough that the NES or the Snes could be my golden era of gaming, BUT I agree the ps1-ps2 gen is the true golden era of gaming. so many great and diverse games came out on those systems at that time...

The default controls and battery consumption are to me the biggest barriers for big premium games on phones. The vast majority of people would likely just try using touch controls and find its an awful experience. They then also have to contend with the games sucking up the battery life of their main communications device. And I guess you could also argue storage space being an issue as well seeing as most phones tend to sell at their lowest storage capacity and most of the biggest brands have abandoned expandable storage cards.

lol when that person wrote in to point out all the beloved Sony IP that have been ignored, I was hoping to hear about all the franchises that died when they killed their Japan studio. Certainly wasn’t expecting to hear “Days Gone”.

Phones have just never been made for gaming despite occasionally hearing about new mobile gfx chips. It kills battery life, and you still need that extra controller. I also can't see it ever really being a thing. They could eventually get game consoles that small and add phone functions to a portable console, but phones are never going to give the same experience. Nate's console choice is much the same as mine for the same reasons. Unless it runs like shit though I tend to get it on Switch though.

Well, I know no one here cares, but the reason why AAA games don't sell on mobile is because there are games like Honkai Star Rail, Genshin and Zenless that are free. And they're not Dragon Quest 8, for example, but DQ8 is R$100 (I think it might be 20 dollars there?), and it just can't compete with the free games with really high Budget that Mihoyo is putting out.

Game franchises that would work fantastically well as tv series: - Dead Space - Perfect Dark - Uncharted - Syphon Filter - Ghost of Tsushima - Hades (maybe?)

Starfield is for specific tastes. The game is a quick travel, narrative adventure. The exploration aspect is just not on par with other titles. That’s what makes it boring to most - that, and so many “dungeons” are copy and pasted.

Found that such a weird take on Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on Switch 2. Probably won't happen because who wants to play it a third time? What about the millions of who've never played them?

Emulation will be a bigger deal when we start getting GC/Wii era games, main problem is the touchscreen controls for me.

I don’t think they care about this generation anymore, so they are just going to March into the next generation and not make any kind of pro series, which I think most people don’t even feel Play Station needs.

I can't imagine upgraded Switch games without an upgrade path (like $10) for existing owners. Re-releasing Breath of the Wild why not, but having to double dip full price even if you have the Switch version and especially if it's backwards compatible would be a big no for the vast majority of people. It just wouldn't make sense at all in the current landscape. And if it's a clear no for this game, then it would be the same for any other game.

Look one of the main reasons why I bought the PS2 was it had a DVD player. Yes the graphics are amazing & I would have bought one anyway but this is why I bought it before the Gamecube which was going to have a DVD player also on first announcement but then nintendo side stepped & decided not to. If they had it would have sold way more than 21 million. And that is why Sony decided to make it play DVD also is because nintendo said they were going to & Sony got scared.

Why do people watch SpawnWave still? If it were not for him and his Spawncast... I wouldn't have discovered or likely watched you guys on the regular that I do now... there's that. I generally like your guys' show personalities and takes and experiences, and you guys have great chemistry. I feel very attached to the Spawncast community, especially in the past few years since the COVID lockdown but I've been watching SpawnWave since slightly before the Switch's launch.

Everyone talks about these beloved IPs but out of those IP listed. Only Bloodborne ans Twisted are actually beloved/sold well. Sony isnt a charity. They are gonna sink money into a game that sells 100k copies.

I have been a Xbox supporter from day one I have bought every single system and used it as my number one until the Xbox series X came out I never bought it and unplugged my old Xbox if a first Xbox game comes out I play it on Game Pass PC no need for the system. How much better PlayStation is this is for you MVG .. your old age is catching up to you buddy. Terrible game choice lately.

Great video guys. Loved the comment about the rat from oblivion. I disagree with the Jim Ryan comment. I never heard about the ps2 figures being higher then it was originally reported and also why report that right now when switch was just getting that close to that number. Why not announce the updated number before? The timing of it is too serendipitous. Sorry but not sorry. I don’t believe it. You can say Jim Ryan can’t lie about it but I still find it suspect about not announcing it like years ago. To me it sounds like all of Sony got nervous that Nintendo was coming up with switch to have the most units sold and Sony all of sudden said ps2 was higher. I don’t buy it but I respect your opinion. I would do the same to other leaders of other companies not just Sony. Phil Spencer especially. All company leaders and reps tend to twist words too. All PR talk.
