Whats kinda funny is that before the sequel was ever announced, that ending just cut off when timmy was just siezing on the floor like that, and then it cut to credits. So, back then, that was supposed to be the bad end, but since they’re making a sequel, they turned their bad end into the canon end by partially retconning what happened before.

Well it was also due to the backlash from the community. You spend all this time trying to save your son only for it to not matter TWICE. You first find your son dead in the iron maiden machine and then once you have killed another innocent child you then lose him at the live show from him turning into a monster. So yeah, the ending leaves it open for the Sons of the Forest but also because The Forest was getting bad reviews just for (at the time) crappy ending.

I mean, they didn't retcon anything. They left it at a cliffhanger. Probably on purpose because if they were able to do a sequel, they wanted that to potentially be an option. Also, the canon ending is still the "bad ending" because the dad sacrifices a plane of people and three kids to save his one child. The good ending is still shutting it down.

@@Evelyn-qt3hi I mean they did retcon it, as the seizure on the floor cutting to credits from before heavily implies that what happened to the girl is what was going to happen to the kid (turning into a monster). But now that they’re doing a sequel they had to retcon it and make it to where the kid doesn’t turn into a monster

If i remember correctly megan used it and she turned into some weird spider shit, timmy not being affected would be stupid plot armor.

Tbh, this is my favorite ending. It shows that even though people saw the effects of what happened with the other child, they still try to save their own - even though again they saw the effects and how the kid turned into a monster. They repeat the cycle and its selfish. I get people are mad that Timmy over here nearly turns but like instead of moving on they're the reason it happened. I understand that it sucks to endure the entire game for "nothing" but its not really nothing. It's about the sacrifice hence the important choice at the end. Idk, I love this game so much!

Literally bought this game few months ago on sale with my brother and played it together online We thought that it would just be a survival game where you try to survive in an island full of cannibals but we were so wrong and after exploring the story we were so invested in it and we found out right after finishing the game that sons of the forest is also gonna come out.

Production quality is what makes a game good, not how long they spent making it. Rushing production isn't any good either obviously, but still lmao.

I like that you can keep playing the game after you complete the story bcos there are still *tons* of things left for them to do in the game, i.e.: - explore the alternate ending - mess around with traps - explore other building options like treehouses, ziplines and cranes, etc

Spoiler: It's funny that they pick the airplane one because it would be funny but not realizing yet it's actually a Canon ending, I thought shutting down the facility is a good ending turns out it's not. Just leaving Timmy dead cuz of no power.

I would say that the alternate ending is good but not canon and first ending was bad but canon. He killed about a hundred people to save his son and could have created a scenario that he was previously in. Compare that to shutting down the facility which leads to his son dying but nobody has to go through what happened on that island. The canon ending is not always the good ending. Spoiler. For example, in the Last of Us, Joel didn't want to sacrifice Ellie. She is immune to the infection and the Fireflies want to do surgery on her to create a vaccine but it will kill her. Joel instead killed the innocent soldiers and doctors in the hospital and rescued Ellie. He then proceeded to lie to Ellie that they found other immune people and creating a vaccine from them failed so they scrapped the idea. He doomed humanity and killed the few people who know medical knowledge for his own selfishness. Is it a bad ending? Yes. Is it canon? Yes.
