Montreal, one of the few French Canadian cities in North America. It also happens to be one of the oldest cities in Canada. An iconic city known for its food, and its people. Me and my wife took a long weekend trip from Toronto to the French speaking culinary capital of Canada. This is 72 Hours in Montreal.
We spent our first day exploring by foot. Montreal is a very walkable city, with tons to see neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Our feet brought us to a great Brunch spot called SHAY. It's a Middle Eastern breakfast food. Their food was unique. But very delicious. I highly recommend Eggs and Shawarma.
If you're more into scenery than Old Montreal has some of the best architecture I've witnessed in Canada. It's located right by the port, just north of the River. Old buildings that look like they were from 18th century France. Frozen in time, and well preserved. If you like a bit of a hike. Mount Royal is a beautiful location to view the Entire city. It's quite breathtaking.
It was a scorching hot day, and we needed to cool down. Plenty of refreshing Bubble Tea spots in Chinatown. Opting for a slush instead of the Traditional BOBA.
The food scene like I've said is Iconic. Chez Tousignant has been serving Burgers and Poutine and gets great reviews. We tried the Cheeseburger with a side of Poutine. The Poutine was phenomenal. The curds weren't quite as squeaky as the ones in Toronto. The fries were crispy, cheese melted just a bit to add to that amazing mouth feel and chew.
But if you're looking for another iconic Montreal staple than St Viateur Bagels may be that spot. Line up at all times of the day, and it's open 24/7. But if you're going, bring cash. No cards accepted here. The bagels are made fresh in house all day. But they won't slice em up and put on Cream cheese for you. You'll have to do that yourself. But they sell all the needed essentials in the store.
If you want to try other traditional Quebecois food then I'd suggest La Binerie Mont Royal. It serves traditional working class meals from old quebec. Preserving culinary cuisine and culture.
Montreal is a beautiful city to visit any time of year. I can say now that I'll definitely be back soon.

Time Out market at Eaton center in Montreal . 16 Montreal s great chefs under one roof ... music is good as well . Schartz deli on St Laurent for a magical meat sandwich , Thanks for your video . Nice to hear positive and beautiful people from Toronto enjoying Montreal

I love MTL as well! Glad you showed some of the original Quebecois foods. Simple but so tastey. I have never tasted better pea soup than what I have had in Quebec!! Also their bagels are great. Whenever there, I cannot leave without buying a dozen. If you haven't yet, you should try their famous Schwartz's corned beef sandwiches. The lineup is well worth the wait.

poutine looked tasty! It looks almost like the Belgian fries called 'friet stoofvlees', fries with gravy and meat instead of cheese

Arla cream cheese is currently the best (now that Liberté is out of business). Otherwise, buy a cup of creamy labneh in a middle eastern store or at Adonis.

Quebec cuisine is more than poutine and bagels .... i understand we live in a fast world but quebeckers like good food and take time to eat with friends and family .. So many world Michelin or not Michelin Chefs in Montreal ... like Toqué , Joe Beef Chez Sophie etc I am conviced you are smart uou know wherr to look for cuisine critiques ... Happy hollidayd Fun fact : Montreal after New York city has the highest number of restaurants per capita in North america ... some are excellent to average ... Life is a choice ... makes good ones

Im from Quebec and except the poutine you ate, a lot of stuff did not look good hehe. The 2 things that true quebecers would promote is the poutine and everything with maple sirup... everything else is not that great if you ask me hehe

Why do most tourists go to St-Viateur Bagel when they can can go to the more original Fairmount Bagel and then hit Wilensky's at the same time, kill two birds with one stone as they are located almost next to one another.

@@christinecamley St-Viateur is not for the purists, Fairmount Bagels can trace it's roots all the way back to the original Montreal Bagel in 1917 and still owned by the same family.

Yeah the "Tourtiere" you had is not tourtiere at all. That's what ppl from Mtl call it but real tourtière doesn't look like that at all. Hope you will come back soon and eat once more 😉

Tourtire from Montreal is exactly like that , Tourtiere from Saguenay-LAc St Jean is specific to that region.

Tourtiere is from Montreal and It used to be made using TOURTE (a bird) now extinct, but we kept the name, Lac St-Jean as another type of meat pie, without Tourte in it from the start, So meat pie from lac St-Jean, not tourtiere. if you want to play semantics be prepared to do the research. Matt, next time try it with Fruit Katchup it will be much better.

So you know TOURTIERE is from Montreal because it used to be made with a bird called TOURTE, a small island around Montreal still bearing the name, but the birds are extinct, what they do in Lac st-jean is Six pates, but they want to call it tourtiere, not the same thing at all. Mind you tourtiere does not technically exist anymore, but it is a kind of meat pie typically consumed around the Holidays and with friends and family. Now it is mainly made of beef or a mix of meat and duck, best with a side of fruit ketchup. Also, the Pig's Feet ragout is very good, do not get intimidated by the name, you won't see the feet on your plate, also a traditional meal from the holiday season.
