What comes to mind when thinking of a hotel in Baghdad.....well never mind the lack of glass in the windows it's been a while since it had a roof!

I never been to the green zone, great vlog, thanks! The green zone was the location of a number of Iraqi military bases, government ministries, and presidential palaces where Saddam and his family actually lived before the invasion. Looking forward for the next adventure.

Wow, stumbled onto your channel here. Last time I was there was in June 2003, we (my unit) stayed at the parade stadium and I was in a mansion that Sadaam’s daughter owned, it was next to the ministry of defense building which is next door to your hotel. Back then it was like being on Mars, lots of blood and uniforms on the streets and I went to your hotel now and then but too many Officers there so it was annoying. I was an Infantry Senior NCO then with 2-6 Infantry, 1st Armor Division. I remember when your hotel was hit with a bunch of rockets launched from a trailer next to the hotel (you can see the main road out your window) and a few Officers were killed and injured, one rocket went right into the room and wiped it out while other rockets did less damage. You can ask the manager which rooms were hit in 2003 if you’re curious. The Iraqi people are not people to take at face value, always know what’s going on around you and always watch their hands, they like to get close when they attack. The Kurds and Iraqi Christians are people you can trust with your life, others are case by case. Our unit set up the Green Zone and it wasn’t easy, we got attacked daily but those attackers paid dearly for it. If you go look on the roof of the hotel you should be able to find clues of our presence. Look inside the elevator room on the roof, the bullet holes are probably still there since they rarely patch up on the back side. Take a walk through the Baghdad zoo, they have a ‘Baghdad house’ that’s beautiful and I wish I could build one here. My unit was the one that got hit while we were guarding the Assassin’s Gate when a huge bomb went off one morning in December, the pictures were horrible, very sad to see all those civilians killed and injured. Avoid eating the fish from the river, there’s microbes there your digestive system can’t handle and it’ll give you issues for a LONG time. I’ll stop there, do enjoy your visit and visit places you want to see, the Tower of Babel is a joke, not worth your time, it’s a reproduction and not close to being go
