Today we take a look at the RFW series Ratcheting Flare Wrench Sets from Vim Tools. We put these to the test in an attempt to see what the failure number of the tool is, but came up short. So be looking for Part 2 of this video where we take it to failure.

Clay, I’ll send my brother in law up there to you for the next time you want to destroy a tool. He is an expert at this.

I swear, it's always the expensive tools that get broken when you lend them out (if you ever see them again).

I bought these when they first came out expecting them to be somewhat handy if they held up. They’re amazing and have yet to fail me. They’re my go to line wrenches now

I amazes me that people have this thing about Far East made tools. I have seen aircraft techs toolboxes that have plenty of tools some of which ARE f/e made. Vim tools, yes some are made overseas, but they are very selective about who they choose to build their tools. These RFW tools look strange but, when you see them, and what they can do - you'll change your mind. I am saving up for a set of the largest RFW's for hydraulic hoses. To see what they can do on Bolts - try that with an ordinary wrench, depending on the grade of bolt you might be surprised. And remember, they are supposed to the used on pipe fittings primarily. Thanks Clay, you keep upping my opinion of Vim tools with every demo you do. From UK.

I got the 22mm for O2 sensors. The 24mm can be used for NoX sensors. I might try to get a 13mm and 15mm for adjusting tie rods.

Happy to see these didnt fail with the shittest quality bolts. Did those come of a HF toolcart ?lol Lets use some S2 bits or atleast G8 bolts. Also id like to see what they do to the softer line nut metals. Thanks VIM & Clay

Great video and was plenty of fun. I would like you to when you redo the video to do 2 tests. First it would be fun to see you break it but can you also get a flare nut fitting and show maybe how the engagement on it won't strip or at what psi it strips and if possible get a protractor out and show it on a bolt with the protractor behind it so we can see how far it turns because it rachets? I think on this more delicate tool those details of engagement, how long it'll bite those soft fasteners before rounding or maybe it won't round and will just snap but that and angle of turning before racheting would be awesome tests that I don't think would be very expensive to do. Thank you and keep up the great work

Hello again, Clay Thank you for another Great Video 👍 Question for you. What grade are the bolts? It's been a long time since I learned about grade 8 bolts. Who knows there maybe a higher grade level now? Again thank you 👍

Or is that different from these?
@DiscipleDown
@DiscipleDown Ай бұрын
They are different. That set comes with the SCF14. It's a spring-loaded crowfoot. It does not fully wrap the fastener like the line wrenches. These line wrenches / flare nut wrenches should, in theory, be able to apply more torque to a fastener before failure.

Why is the ratcheting mechanic demonstrated? Breaking a tool designed for low torque application doesn't really interest me.
@strykerentllc
@strykerentllc 2 ай бұрын
Gotta be honest, we were interested up until we clicked on the links and saw Snap-On like prices. Can't justify that kind of cash for far east made tools that will not see daily use to recoup the cost of the up front investment. Not being haters here, just being straight up honest. Knipex Cobra pliers along with 6 point flare nut wrenches will still have to be the go-to which haven't failed us yet.

Just my opinion you can't base every tool companys pricing based off snap on ! Vim is not snap on they're their own company and make their own tools and price them for what they think is good for their quality. You have the rite to not buy it but base it off snap on when snap on doesn't even make the same tools as vim so vim should sale there tools based off what snap on does makes no sense !

No where near snap on price I buy 99% of my tools from snap on those 3 sets linked are anywhere from 30-45% cheaper than what snap on would sell them for additionally you could get a better deal from a dealer or another site or use a coupon
@strykerentllc
@strykerentllc 2 ай бұрын
@@someguy2312 Maybe you should've looked at Snap-On prices for flare nut wrench sets or their flank drive units before you decided to start banging on those keys. Flank drive crows foot and their 5 piece flare nut wrench sets are less coming in under $300 for each complete set. All 3 sets of these are ~$645 on the VIM site. Math for those who can't math --- $645 > $600. And no these aren't Snap-On, they're VIM... torque test channel has tested the Snap-On flare nut wrenches and they perform as expected. Maybe VIM should send TTC these and let TTC do the testing.

I was waiting for something like this and it does not surprise me of the results.... No need to apologize , Clay ..It is not your fault that this is how the test ended . But I am so glad that you are not happy with the results ...Cause i would want to know the numbers of the failure point of the tool itself as well . I cannot wait for part duece of the video ..... Great video otherwise ,Clay !
