You have to pause and think about when we got 75kw charging and how it changed our ability to road trip. This latest sc v4 is going to make EV charging so seamless for many that it will not be long before we see a lot more EVs on the road than we do even now. Great stuff Kim!

The crazy thing is that on true “v3” chargers a model 3 took ~15-16 minutes to get from 20-60%, but on this one took 10 minutes. There must have been some bottleneck in the charging cords that didn’t allow for such sustained power over the entire charging session, since the output isn’t higher. Seems like a higher charging curve
@matthewsciarrotta2118
@matthewsciarrotta2118 6 ай бұрын
@@duncanadams2531 most def some limitations. Tesla is constantly changing the software to allow for the fastest possible safe charging of our cars. As we start to see more SC usage, by non-tesla EVs and new Teslas, Tesla is using its data to improve charging experience by allowing cars to charge at higher rates for longer duration (where safe), managing where you charge to maximize the benefit of the charge and reduce charge time, having you arrive with lower charge to take advantage of charging ramp speeds, and encouraging those who have completed charging to leave the spot for the next vehicle that needs charging by applying fees for idle.

With Sodium Solid State batteries coming, charge rates will get down to 2-3mins, same speed or faster the filling gas as well as getting up to around 700 mile range on a single charge.

3-5 years out though if not longer for mainstream ev access for solid state cells. For example the nio welion semi solid state cells are 150kwhs in the same size pack as catl has 100kwhs. It weighs a mere 44# but supposedly costs over 35k per pack. And I very much doubt anything other than pickups and high end suv evs will ever have over 350-400 mile driving ranges. Average us daily commute is 37 miles total, average person drives over 200 miles in a day 1-5 times a year. Average as in over 85% of new car buyers in 2022 were homeowners with six figure household incomes and financed the majority of the principle amount for the vehicle purchased. Ev home charging world wide is still 85-90%+of ALL charging being done. 👍🏻

Was there last night. I skipped one stall where the NACS was not connected to the magic dock in the super charger. I found one that worked with my Kia Niro! By the time I got coffee and bio break at the race track across Camp Creek park way my car was ready. Which was 27 minutes. The Niro is a slow charger. Of course what the charger position does is give tesla drivers options similar to a gas pump. It was a great experience and the magic dock worked well. I did have an extra ten minutes or so setting up the tesla app and figuring out how to use it but it would be very quick and efficient if I did it again. Only a hand full of teslas there in the middle of the night

Been waiting for this one, Kim! Really happy to see it. Tesla hasn't updated its "Find Us" map yet, since I can't find these chargers on it. And they have "magic docks"…!?! When they're activated, you'll have to borrow a neighbor's non-Tesla EV to do a follow-up video. If it has a rear port, but on the other side, I'd suggest still backing in: the cable should reach around the rear of the EV just fine, don't you think? BTW, don't v3 Superchargers also have liquid cooled cables? I thought that was why they were thinner than v2 siblings. Silly question: why the triple "8"?

That trailer only stall is awesome!
@Fritz_Schlunder
@Fritz_Schlunder 6 ай бұрын
It is a step in the right direction, but I would argue that it does not appear to be designed quite right. Almost certainly, people without trailers are going to occasionally plug in and block the trailer only stall. Some people are actively evil, other people are ignorant, and many others are simply "lazy" and do not want to be hassled with backing up to use a charging station. Then, when someone with an actual trailer shows up, they are inevitably going to get angry, particularly when there are unoccupied non-trailer stalls available. It is a recipe for conflicts and "charger rage". One day, some people may even go so far as to shoot each other over "charger rage". This is a predictable/foreseeable outcome, and it is preventable. Additionally, it does make logical sense for people to get angry in such situations. It does make sense for people to get angry, when someone else does something selfish that brings harm to them. Often times, anger is not the "fault" of the person getting angry, but it is in fact a normal symptom of someone doing something harmful/evil to another human. Marking a perfectly good stall as "trailer only" is unfair to those not pulling trailers, particularly when all non-trailer stalls are already occupied. Marking the stalls also will not physically stop people without trailers from plugging into it and causing problems for those who actually are pulling a trailer. Marking the stall trailer "only" will also decrease utilization rates of the stall, which increases the probability of it falling into disrepair and not getting promptly repaired, which is actually a major potential problem when pulling a trailer with an EV. One relatively easy solution is to make more trailer accessible stalls (say upwards of 33% of total stalls), and then charge mildly higher electricity rates for using the trailer accessible stalls. Additionally, it is important to make it known to customers what the electricity prices are between the two stall designs, so that people not pulling trailers preferentially use the non-trailer capable stalls, since they know them to be cheaper. Charging a little bit more for using a pull through trailer accessible stall does make good physical sense, since parking lot area required is higher for a trailer accessible stall, and it therefore does in fact cost slightly more to install a trailer accessible stall, compared to a non-trailer style stall. It is unnecessary to mark the stalls trailer "only". Simply charging higher electricity rates for the trailer accessible stalls is sufficient incentive to prevent the vast majority of people not pulling trailers from blocking the stalls, except where there is a shortage of total unoccupied stalls available. In that scenario, it does make good sense for people without trailers to charge at the trailer accessible stalls, and for people with trailers to simply wait a little bit if necessary, for a trailer accessible stall to become available.

This particular charging station just opened the magic docks a few days ago. Not super fast, but I was itching to test it out. Got up to 76kW. It tops out for my Kia EV9 at 85kW due to the EV9’s 800V architecture. The superchargers only provide 500V and the boost converter in the car seems limited to 85kW.

Thank you Kim! V4's look awesome! I'm a Tesla stock holder, so I really want Tesla to do well. What I'm really bummed about is the really unfair distribution of Supercharger stations. I live in the Southern state of Tasmania, Australia. There is only 1 Tesla super charger station in the entire state, despite Tesla's becoming incredibly common here. I see Tesla's everywhere, but Tesla customers in Tasmania are definitely being utterly neglected for Superchargers.

Tesla opens up suggestions for new Supercharger sites once or twice a year. Sometimes you can do their work for them to make it easy. Example: Years ago, I (a real estate broker in Virginia US) called up mgmt. of an old mall in Norfolk VA (Veterans Mall) near me to host a site. They said yes the next day. I made it clear I didn't speak for Tesla but had a contact. I called Tesla's team and told them they approved it. Built 6 months later at the location I found for them!

In addition Tesla has a voting process every quarter (just google "tesla supercharger voting" and you will find it), Campbell Town is currently one of the option on the voting list. So definitely jump on and vote for it, and (most importantly) get other people you know to vote for it. (They just need a Tesla account, which you can get these days even if you don't own a Tesla).

Hi Kim, Now I'm spotting the headlights you have on your Model 3. Is it something after fitted equipment or is this how they look in the US?.

In Japan there’s no trash can at all, and streets are near as a pin, because they TAKE it home with them! Why do we need cans where food isn’t served?

It’s the people that matter. Americans get dumber and trashier by seconds. The country is turning into a 3rd class country.

People bring the food, and discard the trash, consumed while charging. I have had a small trash bin in each of my Model 3s since day one. It sits in the middle on the floor in the rear. I empty it when I get home and it is full. I think I got them from Abstract Ocean.
