Ninja stars are available in so many different shapes and sizes that's it's difficult to know which ones are actually effective throwing weapons and which ones would just look cool hanging on your wall. For instance, at www.KarateMart... we even carry throwing stars that are shaped like bats, playing cards and dragons. We have so many different shuriken that we thought it would be a good idea to test a bunch of them out to see which ones would actually stick into a wooden target.
Here are the ninja stars we tested out in this video:
1) 6 Point Silver Throwing Star: www.karatemart...
2) Black Throwing Star Set: www.karatemart...
3) Dark Night Bat Throwers: www.karatemart...
4) Dragon Rage Shuriken: www.karatemart...
5) Death Claw Throwing Star: www.karatemart...
6) Lethal Chrome Bat Shuriken: www.karatemart...
7) Joker Throwing Cards: www.karatemart...
Get all of your ninja stars and shuriken at www.KarateMart...

I have that Dragon Circle Star, and as you showed, it's great on the soft targets, not on the hard. It's more "slicy" than "sticky". The playing cards, which I've also tested, better in the foam than the wood targets.

I completely agree Jordan! The dragon circle star stuck pretty nicely in the foam, but I couldn’t get it to stick into the wooden dummy. The cards were a little easier to stick. Thank you so much for watching!

I remember back in the early 80s, probably '82 or '83, my best friend and I were into the Chinese weapons just for fun. There was a store in Hamilton Ohio that we used to go to once in awhile when we'd go down to visit his grandmother and we'd bought some Nunchaku's there. Later we each got a few throwing stars to mess with. He wanted the cheaper stars that were basically stamped steel with the sharpened points, like 6 or 7 points and I wanted a couple of the heavier 4 and then about a 7 pointer with nicely sharpened points. They had a huge white barn that we'd throw them at and practice. The heavy 4 point star took some practice to get consistent with but they were a lot of fun. Surprisingly those stamped steel stars actually were pretty easy to stick and stuck pretty well even though they were light weight. You just need to get a variety and practice with them and a little time will tell what their strong points are and their weaknesses.

The card shuriken, since the bevel is one sided and also the way you where positioned you have to throw the actual playing card facing yourself, if you want it to go a bit to the right and get that edge to stick otherwise it will just bounce. That’s my opinion hope to get some feedback on that one. Great vid like always 🤘🏼 It might take a few tries on such dense wood. It would just be better to be as thin as a playing card with a small bevel on both sides Tbh!

The rounded dragon shuriken would be a very sharp cutting weapon, and would likely stick deep into a human if hit on exposed flesh, but these shuriken are not meant to be thrown into wood, they are meant to be thrown at soft human flesh. However, their capability to pierce into wood is a very good indicator for how they would perform when going into a human, wearing simple clothing.

I would like to see differences between heavier throwing stars and lighter throwing stars and how the technique varies. Cuz I have a medium weight throwing star and I still have to kind of lightly throw it. And I'm wondering how that would differ from a heavier throwing star. Cuz it seems you can throw two easier than one because of the weight is heavier and so you don't have to watch your strength as much
@Karatemart
@Karatemart Жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting question, Chance! What I’ve personally found with stars is that the strength you use to throw them varies more on what the target is made of than how heavy the star is. I throw them all with a lot of force, but sometimes if my target is too cushioned or bouncy, I need to throw them lighter. Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it!

Is it ok if I use cardboard instead or will it damage the tips of the throwing star?
@Karatemart
@Karatemart 2 жыл бұрын
Cardboard works great! That’s primarily what I used when I started learning them. I’d just add extra cardboard to the ground around it incase the star hits the ground.

@@Karatemart Here's the thing about that...CA does have laws restricting them, along with nunchaku and balisongs. However, there ARE companies that will send them to California, which always makes me question why they are allowed to and other companies are not. Are those companies just ignoring the laws or is their disclaimer about it being the customer's responsibility to comply with local laws enough to circumvent those restrictions?
@Karatemart
@Karatemart 3 жыл бұрын
That is an excellent point Alex. Each Country, State and many municipalities have laws regarding what can be sold there, what can be owned, and what can be carried outside the home. These laws change all the time so it’s difficult to keep up with them, but we try our hardest. Some companies disregard these laws. Great question!
