I have been called up twice for service in New Zealand . The government was arrogant enough to offer me a whopping 35$ for the day lol . Oh and they did the usual threats in their letter that it’s an offence to not turn up to service and threatened the usual fines etc . My response to the ministry of (injustice) was that number 1, I need a lot more money than that and if you want me to do legal work my rate is $250 per hour . Number 2 , if I wanted to be involved in anything legal then I would have been a lawyer . Number 3 , there are hundreds of lawyers in the country so get them to do the work that involves anything legal . Number 4 I have seen way to much injustice in my life to have any faith in a pseudo and corrupt legal system . I posted the letter back to the ministry of (injustice) and never herd from them again .

It’s called a ‘civic duty’ dude, it’s a part of living in society.

Yes, but living in a society also means you should have the right to refuse.

'Oaths are frequently made while holding the Bible, the New Testament or the Old Testament. Witnesses may choose to swear an oath on another relevant religious text. It is not necessary that a religious text be used in taking an oath.' Court Services Vic. 'Section 72A Jury Act 1977 provides a prescribed manner for a juror's oath and affirmation. Subsection 72A(5) provides that if an oath is taken in the prescribed manner it is not necessary for a religious text (normally a bible) to be used.' Judicial Services NSW. Affirmations rather than oaths are also applicable, which is where you promise to be truthful rather than making an oath.

You can affirm to tell the truth, you do not have to use a religious text.

One of the worst documentarys ever seen on KZfaq. This should be bannned. I was literally fallen asleep & once i got to the guy who was asking to be excused because of a "B" grade Pennant match rather than take part in a murder trial that it was it for me. Absolute cringeworthy.

Oh, sure, I'd love to be on a jury for a 3-week trial instead of my winning bowling streak! 🎳 Let's trade those strikes for court strikes! ⚖
