In this episode, I go salmon fishing in Kyuquot Sound on Vancouver Island. We try jigging for squid to use them for live bait and also jig for chinook salmon with the same jigs.

My name is Kitty Kanhoffen, I am a teacher as well as an outdoor enthusiast. My passion for the outdoors first started when I was introduced to fishing through my husband Daniel in 2012 and it expanded quickly when I began co-hosting on Fishing with Rod. The curiosity did not kill this Kitty, but has only furthered my passion beyond fishing, which now includes foraging and hiking in British Columbia, Canada.
On this channel, you will find a collection of videos which document my adventures, discoveries, successes and mistakes. My videos include fishing, mushroom hunting and hiking. Thanks for stopping by and please subscribe! 🎣🍄🏔

A FANTASTIC way to fish jigging! Since we’ve discovered it, we’ve not trolled. Way more fun, quiet. Fishing around Pender Harbor, there was not a day we didn’t come back with our limit. We did a video on it, titled “BC Salmon Jigging” (nowhere near as good video production as yours)

Paul, for the set-up and techniques Kitty and I did with Dave, you can find a bit more info on it at: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9t5lcuDsuCyaWQ.html We will be doing this again in less than two months from now so will definitely try to create another video with an emphasis on the setups and techniques.

You should! Jigging in the ocean is unlike any other jigging I've tried. The hits are pretty vicious, and with the depth/space, the fish have ample amounts of room to run.

big fish on light gear is the best fun! At my local (Twizel, New Zealand) 2500 size reels with 10lb braid, 6lb leader on 3-15gm casting weight 9ft long rods are the go to. the browns and rainbows get to over 40lb and there's some pretty sizeable salmon too.

@@FishingwithRod Kahawai on light gear definitely give you the run around, but nothing beats getting pinned to the gunnels by a horse of a kingi (or 10) and not being able to lift your arms the next day. We'd love to have you down here, once we are all free to travel the world again.

LOL I have no desire get my own boat. I'm perfectly content with my own legs getting me from spot to spot. A couple years ago I tried driving a boat for work, and I have to say, I'm scarred from that experience. It was so windy, I had no control, plus our fly lines got tangled in the motor, it was a complete disaster!

Hey Paul!! I know it has been a while since we chatted. Life has been steady, work keeping me on my toes at times, but things are slowly down (which is nice). No, I didn't get hit with the vortex, January/February is my reporting month for school, so I tend to go on hiatus. The weekends have been quite pleasant, got a sick steelhead that taped out to be just under 20. Still haven't made the 20's club, but that's okay! I hope you are doing well yourself! Stay safe out there Paulie!

Ok. I'm being constructive here about the video production. A lot of novice filmmakers are in love with bokeh so they shoot at the widest aperture possible, The fuzzy background look. Rod is guilty of this. It's ok if you are focusing on an object with an irrelevant background (like a fishing reel). But at 1:24 it's a sin because the gorgeous fish that jumped is totally obscured. It's daylight and rod could have shot at f8 or f11 and you'd see that fish perfectly. But he shot really wide and it's a blur. Mix it up Rod. Think of your context first not the blur porn. If the background is important or beautiful - SHOW IT. Thanks. ps. Kitty you are a pretty woman - 7:32 the turquoise nails are not you. Try a strong red imo.
@KittyKanhoffen
@KittyKanhoffen 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the feedback Bigfish Tuna! Sometimes we tend to rely on what we are comfortable with and forget/struggle to be creative. As for the nails, I am a sucker for red, so much so that I wear it 95% of the time (as seen in photos and other videos on my channel and Rod's). Some people have even questioned if my nails are naturally red, again because I sport it so often. I think the reason behind the sparkled teal was because I had previously filmed a prospecting episode with Pioneer Pauly, and I thought it would look nice with the gold we found. Cheers, and thanks for dropping by!
