Today we tried Nigerian Food for the very first time!! Billy and I were both very surprised at the flavour profiles from all the foods as we never had anything like this before. We really enjoyed the unique taste of Nigerian food and will definitely try more next time!

You can chew your swallow, whether its pounded yam, eba, fufu or even amala (the softest of them all and practically swallowable). I chew my swallow, except amala cuz its very soft. Great video, its always nice watching other culture enjoy ours.

The only time anyone will complain to chewing the swallows is when you're a native Nigerian. I remember my mom always scolding me for chewing when I was younger but for foreigners who aren't used to it, it isn't required Another thing is that the puff puff statement isn't exactly true, the only time puff puff is a must in parties is if the majority of participants are kids or if the party is a birthday but in more mature occasions like marriages, introductions, burials, naming ceremonies, dedications etc the soups (owho soup, banga soup, pepper soup, ewedu soup etc) and rice (fried rice, jollof rice, coconut rice) are the foods that are served

I really enjoyed this video! A little extra note. 1. It's funny you mentioned pepper soup as a "wake you up" dish and you are absolutely correct because it's a common drinking food. 2. Jollof rice is not just tomato rice as it is cooked in a meat stock along with several spices and chiles, and sometimes even smoked using firewood to give it extra flavor. 3. It's okay to chew pounded yam. 4. In Nigeria, pounded yam is locally known as 'iyan' but erroneously labeled 'fufu' in the west since it's a more popular term. What is actually refereed to as 'fufu' in Nigeria is very different and is made of fermented cassava. It looks almost identical to pounded yam or 'iyan' in color but has a distinct sour taste.

Thank you so much for your comment Sunny! We really appreciate you providing more details behind the dishes we tried! Ahh yes, the strongest flavour profile that hit us was the tomatoes in the Jollof Rice, however, we could definitely taste the savouriness of the meat broth it was cooked in and also other spices. The fermented cassava 'fufu' sounds amazing and we will definitely give it a go next time! Overall we had such an amazing experience and we will definitely give it another go in the future :)

That's a lot of food for two people. People don't usually eat rice with stew along with "swallow" and soup. They're usually two separate meals to be eaten at separate times.
