1) Blue truck's new name "Elwood" after Elwood Blues from the Blues Brother's movie (for those old enough to remember) and 2) DAVID NEEDS A RAISE!!!! His hardwork, engineering and ingenuity are invaluable. He really helps keep TFLoffroad going. 👍

From personal experience throwing small logs into a mud hole for tractions isn't a good idea. Wet wood is the hardest thing for normal truck tires to get traction on, and those small logs can pivot up as you drive over them and do damage underneath . As much as a pain it would be the best way is to get a backhoe down there and dig out some of the excess top layer of mud, so vehicles aren't having to "plow" there way through it.

I was thinking the same thing about the logs. I would never do that either but I think they cut them short enough not to flip up and hit anything. Plus, they wanted it to stay as an obstacle not make it too easy.

Can’t get a backhoe or even a skid loader back there. My flatbed truck loaded with rocks will barely make it. Not many options actually. But thanks for your input

That give away looks awesome! Milwaukee tools are out of my price range by a large margin but the quality and reliability has been proven so I definitely pine over them! Red, to me at least, is synonymous with emboldened power, speed, action and infinite potential and when paired with Milwaukees' clean, utilitarian designs and scrupulous craftsmanship make them the ultimate brand for someones homestead hero. I've purchased many hand tools from them after watching countless videos and whatnot of people showcasing them but also casually using them to perform a task as part of a DIY how to video (some sponsored, others not.)

Suicide doors are really the best on these. The cabs on SxS are usually pretty narrow openings. And with safety bars protruding from the back making it tougher to get in. Believe me, you want greater access space the suicide doors offer when you are using it for work and constantly getting in and out. Try doing that in a Wolverine.

Trailer hitch rule #1. Check twice, latch once. lol David at his best on the ranch! (deserves the polaris give away gift) Recycling tree for trail debris. Tree strap fall rule #1. Secure the line to something other than a person. lol Something that is immovable. Lift with your legs guys. Back damage = down time. And or hefty chiropractor bills. lol The "blue bomber" truck, as an anchor for the winching was a good choice.

That mud hole needs to have a few yards of rip rap put into it. Though getting it back there may be a pain. And on a second note, you should not hook a winch that high up on a tree. Always keep it down around the base.

Save your back ! If you can't lift trailer tongue toss wood from front to back. Also you should have left the limbs you cut long, then lay them cross-wise to the trail across the mud holes. Better known as a " corduroy road " . The chunks of wood you tossed in are going to get driven up into pickup fenders & suspension parts. I predict major damage to vehicles you drive through there from now forward

Just let me say if you have a bumper pull trailer of any kind use a bulldog hitch on it and it won't come loose until you want it to.
@Dusdaddy
@Dusdaddy 9 ай бұрын
Overall, good job! You finished the project and that's what counts. Oh yeah, you'll get grief for not checking the hitch. Shit happens but you fixed it. We all know things are more precise and checked if you were going to hit the highway. And plenty will lambast you for not using a tree strap but sometimes, you just don't have one, so you do what you gotta do to get out. As for the mud hole, I think I would have cut the logs long and "corduroy" it. Like Tommy's Demise was done. But that may have made it too easy of an obstacle. And since you had the chainsaw, you shoulda cut that overhanging branch. It's caused problems before.

A ball hitch isn't the correct connection to pull a trailer thru that terrain. A pintle hitch would be an improvement, but even that's not great for crossing steep inclines and side slopes.

I'm not sure about which is the more capable rig off road, but the trail is way more tore up than when they were using the mule. So I think it would be a hard comparison using just their videos of the off road coarse

The problem with filling the ruts with wood is that when the logs are wet they are slick. I could see it almost being worse. Rocks still offer more friction even when they are wet.

Get an ATV trailer like a Yutrak dual tire and use a rotating hitch. You can add a bushing to where a D-Ring goes with a 1/2 pin. The trailer you were pulling was probably almost 1000 lbs empty. The Ranger could benefit from a simple lift like a MMA.
