We hired a "dessert food guide" in MNL 5 years ago and she brought us to places different from yours. We NEVER tried anything with cheese on it!!!!!!! We also had food direct from street vendors and none from any shop/store/bakery. I soon learned one needs to properly vet your hired guide in the PI. She only showed us what she liked and would eat as opposed to showing us a wide range of Filipino food/desserts like what you guys have had (though I suspect your guide is very much into cheese.) We felt very underwhelmed as we had better experiences with Filipino restaurants in L.A. or Queens, NY. Every time we see a Filipino restaurant here in the US, we always stop and buy their breads and desserts (including sago drink and ube ice cream!!)

Oh that’s a shame! Our tour guide actually put this dessert tour together custom for us very last minute so I think that’s why she choose a shopping mall as we could have access to many dessert close by. Ube ice cream is also so yummy!

U should have tried the traditional taho on d streets too, plus taho in Tagaytay City has blueberry flavor and Taho in Baguio City has strawberries and Ube flavored caramel ones. Fresh from their produce. As a Filipino im used to eat traditional taho from the vendor who goes around the village everyday plus the traditional one use sago or small tapioca pearls and i dont want it mixed too.

The more traditional “desserts” in the Philippines are not really the sweet treats you have at the end of a meal. The various kinds of rice cakes and snacks are designed for one thing: carbo-loading. Wrapped in banana or bamboo leaves, these foods were designed to be a portable so it can be catered and peddled to farmers and workers who would be working kilometers away from the nearest kitchen.

Philippines have the biggest range of pastries and desserts in the world. Yes I can claim that because we combine East and West in our food. The range of native pastries and desserts can differ from region to region. So many versions. We have Western style pastries and desserts but with Filipino flavour using native ingredients. We are unique in the world. We also have Western style cakes and pastries ❤

Turon uses a different variety of Banana and it's called "Saba" and that is the secret of Turon. Saba is a wild variety of Banana and when it's ripe you still have to boil it cuz it's hard.

it's only hard if it's still green. once it turns yellowish you don't need to boil. just directly fry or grill.

The saltiness from bibingka must be from the salted eggs as a topping. My kids doesn’t like it with the salted eggs but I do 😊. It’s to balance the sweetness of the bibingka, same with the cheese on most Filipino kakanin- sweet and salty taste ❤. Halo halo is best when mixed well first so you get to have most of the stuff in one scoop esp with leche flan that makes the halo halo creamier. Try more kakanin next time like cassava cake, sapin sapin, nilupak, inutak, Biko and even Buko (coconut) pie. For cakes: brazo de Mercedes, sansrival, ube cake 😊

I suggest trying a different halo-halo, probably the one from Chowking or just the ones with mooooooore ingredients. remember to MIX fully as the name suggests (Halo-halo: Mix-mix), it is highly improper to eat halo-halo in its unmixed state, it must be eaten when every ingredient is fully mixed. Also, Taho that is sold in malls are extremely bad, I'm not even exaggerating, its always not good and doesn't do the original street Taho any justice, so always buy ones sold in the street in the morning

I think Milky Way in Makati has very good halo halo if not the best. Better than Razon.

You don’t sip taho with a straw!!! You spoon it so you get the taste of the soy the syrup and the tapioca all together. It’s not boba drink! And the halo halo, you have to mix all the contents until some of the ice and the ice cream melt a little bit. I think that’s ube icecream that you are spooning and not the shaved ice.

Leche flan is made of egg yolks not egg whites. That's why Filipino leche flan is creamier compare to other flans in the world ( Portuguese, Brazilian etc ) coz we use only egg yolks while the other countries use whole egss.

I’m sure most commercial leche flan do not use just the egg yolks. It will be too expensive.

That taho is lacking arnibal (sweet syrup) she should put more. I can understand why u said it tastes like bath water because it will if there's not enough sugar

Filipino desserts is the best in my humble opinion. I find western desserts too sweet with lots of sugar.

They have much better textures than western desserts and you can eat more as there isn’t so much sugar! Double win!
