Aaron! Monumental! I have to admit that I stopped watching halfway thru your last install because it was just over my head. ( though being a loyal subscriber, I let it play to the very end and “liked” it.). However, on this one, when I saw the picture of the roof filled with all those solar panels, I committed to watching every second of this one. So impressed with your system design, your team members, your knowledge and the video. The result is admirable and amazing. You and Chris are SET UP!👏👏👏👏

This is the best off-grid system I have seen on an RV. Great video you guys. I love your content. I would love to see a detailed playlist of the installation. I plan to do something very similar on a class A motorhome. Also, I am interested in flexible solar panels but don't know much about them yet. Thank you so much for helping the RV community. Hope to see you on the road someday soon.

I would love for you to make a printable flow chart diagram that explains which product is linked up to what. There are several products out there but knowing how it fits into the big picture would be super helpful. I'm thinking it would look like a figure 8 :) but could be total wrong!

I gotta laugh!!! when you left the class B van 2 years ago the quote was "maybe we would go as high as 1000 watts of solar on our new RV but never go crazy with as much as 2000 watts+ of power" 🌅 so..... welcome to real-life RVing. We all live for upgrades so you have the right idea.... Go Big! I am jealous.... Be safe!🏞

As a future full-time RVer, I am so thankful for everything I'm learning from you guys! :) Wanted to ask if you could explore onboard water-making systems for RVs? I'm not willing to fork over the money to buy a Living Vehicle RV (yikes $$$$), but I'm curious if anything exists out there other than spending crazy money on an LV. I've searched the internet and haven't found anything. I'm hoping in your travels and in your community you have come across some information, or some viable options.

We have a Kraus in the kitchen at home and it’s amazing. I got it at Home Depot because Amazon wouldn’t ship to Calif. It’s not just good at saving water. It’s great for washing stuff off your hand, like from making sausage patties or meatballs. Especially useful when dipping chicken into a panko cheese mix which creates cheesy gloves on the fingers. I can turn it on, then stick my gluey hand in the water and not have to clean the on off valve lever.

You coulda just bought some nice, used or even new SunPower 250w solar panels for like $70-$80 per panel in bulk at SanTan Solar, which is like 1/4 the cost and about same performance. Also your RV Rooftop AC probably uses 1300w-2500w, each. Even 3 x 1300w each =3900w/hour. 11kwh of battery is not enough, unless you install a minisplit.

Jesus... do you guys have an AC unit for your electrical for those hot desert days??? This stuff must heat up when the weather is gnarly. (Honestly, not to throw a spanner in the works, but do you have a smoke or heat detector in the battery/components compartment? It HAS to get HOT in there, even on normal days, let alone the desert heat days...) What a great setup! With all the online work you do, along with the electrical components of your rig and trailer, this must make you basically 'plugged-in' all the time. Aaron's mastery of electrical astounds me. I think it's nice that you've been able to partner with so many companies on your journeys to be able to "affordably" work these upgrades into your RV life. Haters gonna hate, I've seen the comments... screw 'em. You two are so professional and giving in your journey and learning experiences; what goes around comes around. Loved seeing this. I hope it does for you what you need it to do. I can't imagine it's not a super benefit either way. Happy trails!
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 10 ай бұрын
Thanks Kai! Yes, the system will produce some heat but the batteries and inverters do have built I fail safes on the temperatures. But, that is a really good idea to add a second smoke alarm down there for safety! We did add some water leak detectors down there. We basically have 40 amps of power while unplugged! It makes running our business so much easier from the road. Appreciate ya!

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this video. System looks awesome. Did you need 2 inverters since you have 3 a/c’s? I still haven’t convinced the wife on our own MK295, she got a house instead.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 10 ай бұрын
Hey Rick! Yes, realistically we won't be running 3 AC's much, but running two you almost do need two inverters. Because the MULTi's are only 2400 watts continuously. 2 AC's plus the fridge, lights, etc.... would be closer to 3000 watts.... Congrats on the House!!
@claytonyoung1351

I'd go with 540 watt panels. Way more efficient. Two would outperform 5 of the ones you have and you could make it fit. Cheaper too.

I’m currently upgrading the OEM system on our new Interstate 24X. AS uses mixed flexible Merlin panels 200W and 100W wired in parallel. This results in nominal PV input due to shading. I installed a 200W Rich solar panel and I’m getting better PV than the original 300W. The plan is to mount another 200W panel to power our 300AH BB batteries and install a Nomadic X2 AC. Picked the hottest week in Minneapolis to do the install 🙄.

So thanks for sharing your awesome victron system with us; I just recently got a quote for a victron system powered by 4 270 ah battle borns and 1200 watts of solar filling my roof…. Here’s the question will the one more battery off set enough for the lesser of solar granted I have a generator that could be used as a hybrid system with remote start to bring the batteries back up if needed; which then tells me why the extra battery if my ac could make it through the night with less. I hope I have asked this question understandably lol thanks again. Oh next time you guys come through Tucson az say hi

Thanks!! No, you don't have to upgrade any of the factory RV wiring, because it is still running the same amount of power as it's designed to. The roof warranty is not voided, unless the solar panels were determined to be the cause of an issue. For example, if one of the solar panel bracket holes leaked it would not be covered. But if the roof fan started leaking that would still be covered on the factory warranty because the panels don't have anything to do with it. 👍

I am just trying to figure out if I want to get a dually or srw. Obviously the SRW will be better for normal drivability, but the extra stability and cargo capacity of the dually is desirable as well. Most likely going 450 due to the tighter turning radius on them vs the 350. Do you wish you had a dually now that you have the fifth wheel? The Brinkley is pretty amazing in regards to fit and finish, as well as thoughtful touches. Aaron, your system is virtually identical to ours with dual 24V Multiplus 120x2 inverters and the Watchdog EMS. You will probably run into a couple of the same problems I did with the Watchdog throwing a false “Missing Neutral” error when you plug into many 50A shore power sources and also with the Multiplus minimum input current of 18.6A which makes it tough to use a 15A shore power connection when moochdocking. Let’s chat sometime about solutions we found.
@PsRohrbaugh
@PsRohrbaugh 10 ай бұрын
Thank you for answering a question I had for Aaron (minimum input). 18.6 amps minimum input current is rough. I run a Quattro 5000 12/220, and it's got a 13.5 amp minimum - and I complain about not being able to go down to 10! 18 is rough. (edit: I'm running 15k BTU AC + everything else moochdocking with a 15a cord). What happens if you only apply AC power to one inverter? Does it just fault out? At a certain point, you might be better off with a separate battery charger. I found a 12V (technically 0-15 volt adjustable) 0-100 amp adjustable power supply on Amazon for a good price. I'm sure there's a similar 24V model. Just keep the Victron system in DC mode and tweak your power supply to match your AC limit. Not as efficient as AC to the victrons but better than popping breakers!
@skyler_wa
@skyler_wa 10 ай бұрын
It’s not easy to reconfigure the wiring and the Multiplus programming to switch between 2 parallel inverters and 1 isolated inverter, so I haven’t really tested or pursued that option. Fortunately, I haven’t had very many times when I was limited to only a 15A shorepower hookup. The couple of times it came up, I got by with changing the Multipluses to “Charger only” mode which lets you dial the AC input current limit down to any number but you lose the PowerAssist function so you really have to watch and limit what you’re running in the RV during that time.

Thanks, I didn’t realize that the Multiplus 3000 had an 18.6 minimum voltage. I have a new Oliver trailer with Victron on the solar side, but a Xantrex 3000W inverter/charger. I’d considered swapping to a Multiplus to take advantage of the load sharing between shore power and solar when running the AC while moochdocking. I can run the AC from the 630 A/h of Lithionics batteries for several hours, but with just 400W of solar, recovery time is excessive. I can set the Xantrex at 15A while moochdocking, but I thought the Multiplus could pull from both sources. I need to investigate more!

I’m not really sure but first, this is a fifth wheel and has pin weight, not tongue. Aaron put the batteries mid ship, not in the front, so that shifts weigh aft, and reduces load on the truck. Also keep in mind that Battleborns are really light. I believe the panels though add a lot of weight. Call Rich solar for weights. We are considering a similar system but scaled back and can’t go that heavy due to an 18,000 pound limit on our truck. We are in the planning stage currently.

Any reason you ran your inverters in parallel instead of split phase? Also I hope your 24v inverters can handle the load better than mine. I have 2 12v MPII 3000 and when both A/Cs kick on at the same time (even with soft starts) and another load is on i n the RV I have had it blow my 400 amp and a 450 amp fuse because of the sudden load. Just running they are fine, it is just that initial hit and your talking about running 3 at the same time granted your amp load will be half because of the 24v, hope it all works great for you. Also you will need to convert to mini split to run A/C for any amount of time. I have close to 3000 watt of solar and that can not keep with up recharging the batteries if 2 A/Cs are running, especially if you run them at night then the solar has to play catch up to charge what you used during the night and power the inverters with what ever battery draw (A/Cs) you have on during the daytime.

@PsRohrbaugh
@PsRohrbaugh 10 ай бұрын
@@rvtv_mpls good points. Mg point was that 48v opens the door to a ton of residential systems, where 48v is basically the standard voltage for DC storage. Instead of Victron stuff, you can consider things like Sol-Ark (where $7000 gets you a 15kw inverter with multiple AC inputs and outputs, grid tie, and 12k of MPPT charge controllers built-in). The user interface is more residential than mobile and I'm hardly saying it's automatically a superior choice. Just that 48v opens the door to a lot of residential systems. There are definitely more DC appliances that accept 24v than 48v, but almost everyone keeps some sort of 12v bus around, so if you're going to be using voltage converters anyways, that advantage of 24V doesn't mean much. The 4/0 wire on my 5000w 12v system gets warm to the touch at times, so I get the advantage of higher voltage whether it's 24 or 48. But as a minimum, people looking into 24V should also look into 48V.

How does AC input work with two inverters? Do you have to provide it to both? (edit it looks like you do) What's the minimum amperage you can limit to? For example, on my Victron Quattro 5000w 12v / 220 amp, I can't limit my AC input below 13.5 amps. That's fine most of the time for me, but I wish I could go down to an even 10. Does two inverters double your minimum amperage on AC input? Anyway, assuming you can limit your input to 15 amps or below, this will be the ultimate "moochdocking" setup. The solar might not always give you enough power, but if you can run a 15 amp cord to the house you're staying at, you can run all 3 ACs and an air fryer and not worry 😂

Yes, that is one thing that is tricky with the parallel of the inverters. It doubles the input limiter of 14.5 amps... to 19 amps. So Im fine on 20, 30, 50 amp shore power.....but the 15 amp will be tricky. I'll probably have to change the charger amps down, otherwise it will try to pull too much power. Then Ill have to manually decide when to plug in or not.... Maybe we just won't need to be plugged in at all if we have some sun....

Approximately how much weight did this add to the rv

Probably around 800+ lbs. That was also one reason I spent so much time putting the batteries as far back as possible to keep the pin weight down. The panels are a nice even weight with the way they are layed out.

WOW! Nice system... how many batteries do you have and I am wondering why so much solar? Is this so you can run 3 A/C units? thanks, solar dummy :(
