Run a drain line back to the oil sump, make sure you run it back below the oil level. If you street drive it, put a ball valve in the drain line to close it off and only run the drain back while on track where the oil gets hot enough to boil off the condensation.

@turbo_brian
@turbo_brian 2 жыл бұрын
Recirculating to the turbo oil return is a bad idea. Turbos are very sensitive to the pressure in the oil return line and you can end up with bad oil leaks particularly if you race in a series that uses restrictor plates to regulate power. You want to drain your catch can somewhere where crankcase windage won't fight it as well as the dynamic pressure in your crankcase can be high in some areas. Also as others have mentioned the key is to separate the oil from the condensated water or fuel before recirculating so your oil viscosity and thermal capacity isn't negatively impacted.

It's not trolling if it's genuine concern. At 150+ mph anything can happen, especially when you are out there with other drivers. I feel like Grid Life is going to have to update their definitions of "street class" after this because swapping differentials and turbos and wheel hubs is going a bit beyond the arrive-and-drive aspect of a typical street class in any other club event.

Crank case breathing systems arr my job, work with all kind of oems. in your case i would 1.improve the baffling/oil trap, 2. Drain back to the sump and 3. Use a cleaner that actually does something (most after market dont clean any oil mist at all). At least a Provent 200, some cummins or similar coalescent filter device should work much better than pretty much nothing that you have today. (one more possible fix is to add another breather port, lower gas speeds tend to reduce the ammount of fluid oil that gets dragged along with the BB-gas)Great work with the speed!

Venting the valve cover will only do so much, you really need to get a crankcase breather on this. For the DSM's we use the balance shaft spot when we delete those unnecessary things, also I didn't notice if you had a Kiggly HLA on this as that will reduce the oil pressure to the lash adjusters thus letting less oil go to the head and stay in the pan for the more vital parts.

For every litre your engine displacement is you need +2 litres catch can especially running e85 , my rb25/30 drift engine so not exactly what your experiencing and being 3 litres I ran a 6 litre can but notably a higher load on the engine I found would fill half of the catch can if I drove it hard on the limiter , then I refined my driving and drove just as fast yet smoother and kept it off the rev limiter I’d barley fill up 100 mm of oil in the can . This saved me motors in the end and some food for thought often don’t blame your rings for your foot lol

Add more lines from the valve cover to the intake pipe with baffling. You need to pull that pressurized air out as quickly as possible so hitting it from every corner of the valve cover is needed. You can weld magnesium there's just very few people who know how to do it. Also mag metal shavings are highly flammable so watch out with that.

I'm an automotive engineer. Spent some time developing a troublesome breather system. Key it to increase the size of the intake to the breather, and ensure its intake is coming from an area with low airborne particles. As you said, you want low air speed. Try adding some plates that the air hits on its way to the outlet. As it hits and changes direction, it will drop oil. Ensure there are drain holes at either end of the breather chamber to allow oil to drop back into the engine. Consider adding a baffle over the cams to reduce fling.

Try adding return from the bottom of the catch can to below oil level on the sump AN10 would be perfect. Then where you have the filters you want a pair of AN10 into another can which is baffled and allow that to breath to atmosphere. That's a known solid set up alot of big power 4cyl turbo cars in Europe/UK use.
@S2_Inlinefive
@S2_Inlinefive 2 жыл бұрын
Plug the fittings and the filter on the head cover. Weld one or two AN 16 bungs on the sides of the sump and connect it to a baffeled tank. Add a drain from the catch tank to the sump as aswell, that will make it an air / oil separator. The pressure comes from underneath the pistons in the engine block, and travels up to the head.

Get that catch can returning to a fitting on your sump (not above the level of oil if possible) and keep on top of the oil changes as I’m sure you do anyway. Then full send! 🤘🏻

With my experience of pushing oil on RB's (probably the worst motor for it) you need to go even bigger on the ventilation. You said exactly what the problem is with low pressure less oil gets dragged. I now run 2x an-12 breathers to a catch can with 2x -12 filters. After almost a year of chasing & even going billet cam covers the breathers fixed my issue. You can also try fuel foam in the covers to add even more surface area for the oil to stick to.

Your always supposed to start in the rear when doing alignments. The rear will change your front numbers but not the other way.

I picked up the quick trick alignment kit after seeing you guys using it. I paid for an alignment at a dealership and of course was not provided a printout. Found out i had a half inch of toe in. Car handles so much better now
