"One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe” - Carl Sagan

Technology is what has created this clusterfuck of nonsense. If you think that technology is going to save humanity you haven’t been paying attention. Human beings survived for thousands of years without electricity or even indoor plumbing, what makes you think that these stupid phones have made are civilizations better? @mariew4422

Yes technology has caused alot of harm because of HOW we use it. If the world started using it the right way then it would be fine .only issue is getting individuals who think for themselves and also will speak out on injustices,hold people accountable. Just like all the bad guys have the tools,we good guys have the same tools. That simple choice is what will decide societies fate. For example I'm in NYC and there's several channels where people trap online pedophiles & have them arrested.we had an armed citizen stop a mall shooter (can't remember where) but you get my point.
@wandererstraining
@wandererstraining Жыл бұрын
@@mariew4422 I agree with you on much of the technological stuff, especially that technology in a more egalitarian society would look and be used differently that in a capitalist or authoritarian society. But there are two things that I think are worth pondering about. 1. We make technology, but the way we make it also impacts how we use it. For example, we choose how to make a hammer, but the way we hold the hammer is also guided by the hammer's design. That's why tech made in today's society would likely take a different form in a different society. 2. Regarding injustices and holding people accountable: right now, this is the best we can do, but we have to strongly consider the environment of those people we want to keep accountable. Were they, by any chance, strongly incentivized to behave a certain way? Is it not possible to change the incentives? Why were those people in the position they were in? Is that position even necessary, and can we not imagine structures where the kinds of behaviours we'd choose to punish today wouldn't be encouraged in the first place?

The American powergrid has never been insulated from a Carrington type solar event from happening. If this did happen, and it happened around 150 years ago, it would destroy everything you possess with electronics and would take around 1.5 years to rebuild. Do you think the 1/100 of the people who own a pre 1980 vehicle that runs would be able to travel freely with them? The government has been well aware of this possibility and refuse to act to prevent it. It is not a catastrophe if it is intended to happen. The government you cherish doesn't cherish you.

When a species becomes too overpopulated and destructive, Mother Nature reels it back. Think of it like purging a virus. I used to be an optimist... now I call myself a realist. I fear for the future generations and cannot stand to think of what they will think of us. "If they knew what was wrong, why didn't they stop it?" As individuals we feel as though there's nothing we can do, there is too much wrong in this system. "My vote doesn't make a difference." Nobody can do everything; but everyone can do something. It's time to stop squabbling over the details and agree that something is wrong, and it is systematic. Only together can we truly make a difference. Whichever race you come from, whatever political views you hold, no matter your job... you, your family, along with everybody else are not immune from the disasters we currently face as the human race. Corporations are not people, money is not free speech, and the people in the "owners club" do not care about us as long as we don't make waves and do what we're told. The "middle class" is a subjective fiction used to divide us. There is the working class and the owners. Roughly five people control more money than the half of the world combined. It is clear that there are powerful people that have pooled their resources and perfected a psycho-social, geo-political circus-like rat race for the working class. They sit back and collect interest and rest assured by the fact that, if needs be, they will be paying a portion of us (police and military) to kill or subdue the rest. That is if we ever manage to set aside our differences and demand systematic change. They have made it so you cannot go to college without going into debt that could follow you to the grave unless you join the military and become one of their pawns. National security is a facade that has been used to justify wars, entrap hopeless people suffering from poverty into making bad decisions that land them in prison, and keep secrets while billing the American people to pay for it all. The USD is at a 40-year low, but some people still think Trump was going to drain the swamp and save us. He was waiting for his second term, I guess. Wake Up!

This is because we have come to expect good in our lives, before the end of ww2 the world was a very different place. Conflict everywhere, frequent famine, labor, hard times. For all of humanity this was the story, and we thrived. Then it changed with the creation of the United Nations and NATO. Though it may seem like we thrive now, we are months away from complete collapse in 80 years, after 5,000 years of civilizations emerging and expanding.

I watched a video recently about how human brain's capacity has shrunken over the last couple of millennia. One of the hypotheses is that our ancestors didn't need bigger brains anymore. The invention of a large-scale organisation /i.e., the civilisation/ allowed us to specialise in different fields of knowledge. If I understood it correctly, it suggests that a civilisation is more or less a bee hive, where every person plays their small part but hardly anyone knows what's happening around the nearest corner. No citizen understands fully what keeps such a society running - as that would be impossible to achieve. The society/nation/civilisation itself is a collective entity that runs kinda on its own. Put the brain size aside, the idea is interesting. The specialisation and the distribution of production and services among many individuals ("masters" in their particular bit of knowledge/experience) could indeed allow us to "artificially" create a much bigger social structure than the nature/evolution has ever produced before. However, it can - in my opinion - deteriorate in a blink of an (historian's) eye. A collectice structure like this seems tu function only as far as the individuals in it - all of them, from top to bottom - strive to secure their real needs, so the collective as a whole enters an equilibrium of sustainability. Kinda like the proverbial Perpetuum mobile, which propels itself forward by simply existing. It is not the same, but can be somewhat similar to how nature works for millions of year. The sad truth I believe is that this can't be achieved unless the whole human species decides to do this together. As long as there are outer disturbances (wars, raids, power struggles etc), you need to protect yourself from them, thus breaking the "neccessity threshold", thus creating a whole field for exploitation, .... and it goes on and on until one final day, it collapses under its own weight. Like radioactive nucleus. Or stars that grew too big. It always amazed me how the most stable things in the universe are the simplest ones. Strength tends to suffocate on itself.

I've actually heard the opposite, that average IQ of people has been growing steadily with each passing generation by about 3 IQ points. Which makes sense from the perspective that the modern world is much more complex and difficult to navigate than what our brains evolved for, that is living in small communities of villages/tribes. Also, IQ can increase over generations with greater access to healthier and more high quality food and improved social and economical environments.

No matter what we say, people in the US still encourage mega corporations like Walmart or Amazon, killing all smaller businesses which created more wealth for the average citizen. Now wealth in the US is concentrated into the hands of a few companies with extremely rich shareholders. Thus, I don't think this quote makes much sense. Most people simply select the option that requires the less effort from their part, no matter the impact

Well, as an older person here are some basic facts My wife and I have lived through. 1950's duck and cover, Serors. 1960's Chemicals in everything, free love, no morals, war, the pill. 1960's to 70's Viet Nam to get us out of a recession. 1971 Nixon taking us off the gold standard, gas lines, higher taxes, loss of families, welfare for everyone. 1980's take the money it is free, use social security for social welfare. Give the people I.O.U.'s. 1990's the birth rate is higher from single mom's married to the government. Higher taxes for houses, estates a paychecks. 2000's social warfare for everything, food cards, medical, taxes for paychecks, schools can't teach basic reading, writing, math. Blamed everyone and anyone for personal short comings, loss of belief in a higher power. Selfishness. People who use others to a mass large fortune's, drugs solve everything. Wonder why we are in should a mess?

The American decline started decades ago. It has only just become more evident in recent times as the decline accelerates. For a very long time in discussions and comments each generation always says their generation was better than the next and for years it was put to being biased and each generation thinks theirs is the best. But what is also true is that each generation thinks theirs is better than the next because it was and that trend is a tell tale sign of decline. In decline each previous generation IS better than the next. With the power of KZfaq, video sharing and open information, a growing number are now seeing it and the state of decline.
