Rule of thumb: if the inner city is modern and ugly, there was a bomb raid during ww2. The one of Würzburg was in March 45 by the RAF. Gladly Würzburg decided to rebuild many of the old buildings as they were before.

Würzburg is my hometown. Come back in spring or summer, it is beautiful here. You have to visit the "festung Marienberg", that's the castle you've seen from the alte Mainbrücke. Also the Residenz and the Hofgarten is really beautiful and worth a visit. If you're interested you can contact me for a few tips for your next visit 😊

Würzburg is a beautiful city steeped in history. I was particularly impressed by the model of the destroyed Würzburg from WW II. If you go to Würzburg again in summer, I recommend a short detour to the Fürstenbaumuseum. That should be frightening, especially for Americans, who fortunately have not experienced any bombing destruction of cities themselves.

Würzburg was almost completely destroyed during WW2 but very nicely rebuilt. The famous bishop's palace (Fürstbischöfliche Residenz) with its painted ceiling was saved by an American officer who had his men cover the ruins with tents. In the park of the palace, there is the grave of the most famous medieval German poet, Walther von der Vogelweide. The Romanesque Cathedral (Dom) with its two towers is the oldest building in the centre.

Hey! I caught this video right away this morning! My husband studied in Würzburg and had lots of jazz concerts there and in the surrounding area, so this brought back great memories and made me smile! You must visit again in the Summer and see some of the vineyards. I know right - isn’t it great to get spicey food sometimes? I love cigköfte for that. It's wonderful to see you are able to have a great time even in they grey of winter, how you are mindful of the culture and history and learning so much. And then Willa. She must be the luckiest girl to be able to experience all this with you at such a young age and she seems to to be soaking it up like the cutest little sponge. Hey! Nice video. We also love Würzburg. I think you missed the Residenz. It's an amazing castle in the middle of the city with a famous garden in the style of Versailles. I love the inside of the Residenz and would love to see another video. I love your comments on german culture. To see someone exploring the country I grew up is interesting. It's a totally different view and I like it. Do you know the city "Miltenberg"? It's a beautiful middle age town on the river Main - about 40 kilometers away from Würzburg. I live right next to it and I designed a tourist app for Miltenberg. I could show you the town, if you want. :-) Have fun by exploring Germany.

Hi, good overview and yes, you need to come back in the Fall and spend a couple of days. The Festung Marienberg is cool and you can also visit Germany's largest wine barrel where some of the local "Frankenwein" comes from. You don't have to drink any wine to appreciate it😏 And sitting out on the bridge over the river is also more fun at that time of the year.

You won't recognise Würzburg on a warm and sunny day in the summer, this city is one of my favorites of all German cities. The place to get the perfect view is "Festung Marienburg" (best light during early afternoon hours). My favorite late afternoon activities are enjoying a takeout pizza from the pizzeria located at "Alter Kranen" and enjoying it on "Mainpromenade" followed by having a beer at the tiny but cosy "Biergarten am Main". And yes, the "Alte Mainbrücke" is crammed with wine drinking people from around 15:00h on Saturdays (I've never been to Würzburg on a Sunday, so the masses might head there earlier).

Also if you like Falafel - there's a place called "Frida Döner Zellerau" and they make amazing wraps with Falafel. Fun fact: Frankfurt in is also called "Mainhattan" cause of the Main river and well at least Frankfurt had a kind of a skyline ;-) The Rhine river btw. was also used centuries ago to transport logs of wood from the black forest up to the Netherlands. I really enjoy watching your videos. It is kind of funny (and a bit sad in the same way) that I as a German often forget how beautiful German cities are. While winters in Germany are cold and rainy, instead of walking around, declaring how nice it probably would be in summer, why don't you, in this time of the year, try to discover Germany more "from the inside" with more indoor-activities? There are some great museums even in your area, like in Nuremberg, Bamberg or Würzburg with a lot of items from all periods of German history . Beautiful treasures as well as objects of everyday life, from medieval times until nowadays, showing how life used to be inside those buildings you only admire from the outside.

Probably the structure of many German and probably also many European cities comes from the way or place they were founded. Sometimes it‘s around a church or around a castle or where trade routes were crossing rivers or two trade routes were crossing one another. So then often farmers from outside of the cities had to come into the city like it is still today, to sell their produce. So every city needed a place for trade aka as trading places (with Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis) 🙂

And as you mentioned river cruises are a very nice way to enjoy the landscapes, cities, villages and castles along the Main, Rhein, Mosel or Donau. And if you have a fondness for old towns... Try Bamberg (thankfully very little destruction during WWII), Freiburg (and spare some hours for Straßburg on the other side of the Rhein) and Lübeck (not only for lovers of marzipan)...

Oh, yeah! Wood on the water! :-) Very easy way to transport the heavy wood back that days! Where I live (in Bavaria) there is a so called "Trift-Sperre" ("floating lock"!?) near by. It first was used back in 1729 and could hold up to 100.000m² of wood coming down the river. Great invention! It would still work today, but is not in use anymore! :-) Very next to it is a tunnel through a mountain as the water was locked, too, and had to float somewhere else ... as it isn't used anymore, you can walk through the tunnel where you get to the same river again, but where it flows into the opposite direction. Very strange feeling - kind of! ^^+gg

I was looking forward to seeing you explore my neck of the woods. My wife loves Würzburg, I find it too crowded. Very pretty city though. I recommend you try a boat trip from Würzburg to Frankfurt. You'll get some really nice views that way. Alternatively, Mainz to Frankfurt by boat is pretty awesome as well.

Mexican food in the US is what Turkish food is in Germany. More than once I heard Americans say "doner is the best food Germany has to offer". Makes me smile every time and makes me hungry at the same time.

The advantage of winter : it`s getting dark soon and many of the beautiful buildings , like the castle or the residence , are illuminated . By the way , from the Hubland.University area up on the hill you have a nice view over the town and the castle on the other side of the river.

Looks awesome, too bad it's so far away. One of the reviews said, "If you miss the 80s and the skateboard scene...." which is funny cuz from the photos, I thought I was too old for the place. No one in those photos could miss the 80s cuz they weren't born yet: ) A restaurant with trivia night and board games on the tables? And a self-serve salsa bar? Wow.

I would also suggest you to check out german "fleemarkets" -->"Flohmarkt" in german. Maybe you like them. Often the bigger cities have one maybe every saturday or once a month. Fleemarkets are places where everyone could offer parts of his household which has no more use for them but maybe for you. Often there are little treasures between the items. Even if you don´t buy anything the exploring of this places is everytime lovely. And Würzburg is also just 100 km away from my hometown Miltenberg. It´s a smaller town but also worth a visit. To your comment with the flavors of the taccos. Often some ingridients or additonal preservatives are not allowed in every country. That´s why also McDonalds could still taste different in other countrys and so also tacos ;)

You really have to check out Dresden, IMO the most beautiful city in germany, even though they speak a different languague there (Sächsisch - just a weird accent nobody likes lol) its a german city. Semperoper, Altstadt, Zwinger, Frauenkirche, beautiful small vineyards with small mansions, all next to the elbe wich flows through dresden (just to name a few things) also if ur interested in History theres alot of stuff to see. If u havent been to Dresden you havent seen Germany. Have a great day and fun exploring new Cities :), theres alot to see!

Hey there, i was born in Würzburg and raised there close to in my childhood before i went to BC to life there with my fathers family. Würzburg is pretty awesome, exspecially in Summertimes. I am surprised, that american visitors usually don't often visit the urban areas to the eastend where the major campus is and (feels like centurys ago) our american friends of the US Army where on post and housing before Pentagon gave allmost all baracks up in northern Bavaria. Btw: the church with the "double towers" is the #Dom and for sure the most ugly church in Town (from outside). Greets from Schweinfurt, 40km North of Würzburg

A lot of the so called Mexican food in the US is Tex-Mex and different from the Mexican food in Mexico. I recommend "Taco Chronicles" (German: "Die Geschichte des Tacos") on Netflix. A good shop to order Mexican kitchen basics in Germany is "Hola Mexico".

Hi guys, I've never visited Würzburg only had a view from the Autobahn while coming from the north and heading either into the Allgäu via Ulm or into direction of Stuttgart. Thanks for your city tour. I am sure, I know the area with vinyards and more green looks much prettier in summer and for your next visit, dont miss Bamberg if you havent been there yet. Just an hour away with a very nice Altstadt and so many impressive architecture as well. Yes, churches are always so impressive and may I ask you if you havent been inside one already ? Dont be to shy, some are open daily and not open only for catholics or lutheranians. Do you know that you have visited one of most american famous basketball players hometown ? Yes, its Dirkules. I still remember when he was in young age, a tall, a giant skiny guy with very white tan, a young teenager when he was invited into a sports TV for an interview after he has signed his first contract to play in the US. Just read that corona restrictions will be eased up starting on 20th march, right to the time when dark, grey, cloudy misty days will turn into colours of spring and more sunshine. In my garden more and more crocusse come out and bring the first spring colours. Birds are already very excited early mornings and concerts of birds voices starts. I fully understand that your mexican food didnt fully match which you know from your favourite places in the US but as I realized at least you enjoyed. Thumbs up.

Hey thanks for such a fun comment to read. You’ll have to visit sometime.
