We Went Hiking At The Disney Nature Wilderness Preserve! | Free Fun Things To Do In Orlando!

Today we went for a hike in the Disney Wilderness Preserve located in Kissimmee Florida. This area was bought by the Walt Disney Company to mitigate its expansion and was transferred to The Nature Conservancy to create a nature preserve. We did a short 2.5 mile hike out to Lake Russell where we had a nice picnic out by the wildlife lookout area. We saw a few birds and the tracks of a coyote (maybe?) and a sand hill crane. Other than those, we didn't see very many animals. Just a lot of bugs. It was still a very interesting and exciting trip to the Disney Wildlife Preserve. I'm thinking of how little things can be formative, and picturing a parent teaching their toddler to look down and walk around tracks like that, and then the kid growing up to be a crime scene investigator! Or maybe the kid who walks over stuff driving a zamboni later.....

Looks like a great outing. Next time you’re in Southern California, for an extended time, there are two places you really should check out. The first is Catalina Island ( lots to explore ). Tte second, especially if you enjoy nature - The Los Ángeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden in Arcadia . Over 100 acres, there’s much to see & explore. Side note….. this is where the original Tarzan movies with Johnny Weissmuller was filmed.

Really love how the last few videos show the car ride to your destination. Nice to have a look at the scenery as you drive on by. I keep thinking though that you are on the wrong side of the road...then I remember...different country...lol!!!! Your new country music name cracked me up...Scrubby Flatwoods!!!! Love it!!!! Jackson is such a pure delight. Seeing him always puts a smile on my face. 😊

Great peaceful video. When you shared the water footage, it may me think of a lake I visited in Atco NJ...the water there is red. It's safe to wade and swim in , it's not harmful. It's just cool seeing the natural color. 🌺🧡 Thanks for sharing

Nature hike with the Tim Trackers, so much fun. I used to take my son to UGA Bot. Gardens when he was a tad older than Jackson, they have lots of hiking trails. He still talks about it to this day and he is 41.

Lots of good information and fun animal facts! I grew up on the gulf coast by Sarasota and the landscape at this preserve is very similar to Myakka State Park.

Went on a field trip with my class to Shark Valley last week. Was a beautiful day and so peaceful. Saw 46 alligators sunning themselves. Was a very enjoyable day.

My boyfriend and I are moving to Orlando (separately, but at the same time). I haven't lived in Orlando since about 5 years ago, he's never lived in Orlando. But we're both from south FL. I get so many ideas for what to show him! I love nature (especially trees) and will happily take him out here. 🥰

This is so timely! We were just at the preserve this last week of January. We recommend going out there to get away from the hustle of the parks. Also, don’t take a trip to the preserve on a hot humid day.

You sound like me - down the rabbit hole of wondering abut things Then the mon's up. LOL I used to see those big, ugly turkey buzzards a lot wen I lived in the country in Virginia. This looks like a nice place to hike. The only drawback is not much overhead tree coverage for those hot days. Hopefully we can go check it out soon. It would be awesome to meet up there for a hike.

That animal tracks paper brought back so many memories. When I was a kid my mom an her friends did all of the west coast on bikes. My dad and I road in a car behind them. One day my dad took me to a petting zoo in either Washington or organ. My dad bought me this shirt with animal tracks on it that glowed in the dark. It was purple and I loved the shit out of that shirt. I wore it all the time.

Just a quick correction on the st johns. It actually flows north to Jacksonville. One of the few waterways in the world that flows north.

Were hoping to get to Florida this summer for our daughters bday. We are always looking for some day trips and things to do while not in Disney. People think we're crazy going in summer, but we know what to expect! Can you Imagine 10 days at Disney parks/ Universal in the heat!!! Non stop mostly!!!

had me researching florida wildlife and i thought id share this neat thing! All crocodilian species are able to see in color. Interestingly enough, because reptiles and birds are the closest living relatives to dinosaurs and both are able to see in color, it has also been assumed that dinosaurs were able to see in color as well.

Disney is probably using this as a wetlands mitigation bank. If you have wetlands that you want to develop you can buy credits in or build/restore your own wetlands mitigation bank to compensate for the area that you are going to destroy by developing.

This is such a lovely area but I don’t think that I could ever live somewhere that there has to be posted signs warning of alligators and venomous snakes! I’m to much of a scaredy-cat for that lol!

@@joannab5584 They should not touch any of Split Oak and it will not be long before they expand more into Split Oak. The 1500 acres is land they never would have developed.
