OHMYGOD HEY!
This weekend, the 2024 Olivier Awards took place in London, saluting some of the best of this year's West End theatre, including plays, musicals, opera, dance, and more.
The nominated shows included Sunset Boulevard, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Dear England, Operation Mincemeat, Guys and Dolls, Next to Normal, and more.

I am still grieving the Next to Normal snub 😭 I was so surprised that they won nothing! Especially Jack Wolfe, even his Olivier performance stole the show for me let alone his performance in the full musical.

Watched a little bit live on youtube here in South Africa. Then downloaded it on youtube and watched the entire thing yesterday and today. I honestly loved Hannah repeating stuff and getting upset when she messed up the one line. An amazing night! With you 100% re splitting various categories and creating some. Yeah, I also cried numerous times - it really was awesome! I think what really moved me was the value for theatre which so many spoke about.

Tom Francis in the Sunset Blvd walk, Big Little Things, Mincemeat and the National Theatre 60 years tribute as well as the clips of those not among us were my favourite scenes from Olivier Awards. Hannah as host were chef's kiss 💋, safe trip to NYC

I've mentioned elsewhere but safe to say I must say it again you both looked fab. Luckily I VPNed so could watch the entire thing live but still very frustrating the access being so limited even more so this year. All the performances were incredible & it got me so beyond excited for The Little Big Things to start streaming in a few weeks so I can witness the show in all it's glory. Someone said online that Tony Awards 2025 will look a great deal like the Olivier Awards this year & I tend to agree in some aspects. Going to be very interesting to see what all makes the leap over.

I watched from "Sweden" - thanks VPN 😬 the Sunset Boulevard performance was incredible! Ridiculous there isn't a straight forward way to watch Oliviers Awards in the UK. Have fun in NY, gentlemen 😊

Thanks for you both for review 2024 oiliver awards. Loads of theatre fans say Next to Normal was totally robbed. Had the best performance. Also, should have won best new musical, & won every acting category. Cassie Levy should have best leading actress.

I was delighted with all the wins in the musicals categories - especially Amy Trigg and Jak Malone- but what a strong year it’s been. In most other years the likes of Guys and Dolls and Next to Normal would have swept the board. The only thing that made me cross about the entire evening was the relegation of supporting actor and actress (play) to the ‘also awarded tonight’ section of ITV’s highlights programme. That was a beautiful moment to commemorate Haydn Gwynn and TV viewers in Britain missed it. Such a wonderful talent in both plays and MT (and with due respect to Patti Lupone, I think Haydn’s version of The Ladies Who Lunch was even better).

I saw it in 2019 w. the orig. cast, & though I've never paid to see a show more than once, when I heard on your channel that Jinkx Monsoon was playing Audrey, I was sold! As someone who knows nothing about most of these shows, I was totally prepared for Next To Normal to sweep... Unfortunate. Especially Jack Wolfe was very deserving I thought..

Jak Malone did deserve it IMO. Not just for Dear Bill, which is a heartbreaking song, beautifully delivered, but for the subtle physicality of his performance as multiple characters. Having said that, I wouldn’t have complained about any of the nominees in this category taking it - all so different, and brilliant.

Will the 2024 show eventually end up on their (OfficialLondonTheatre) channel like 2022 and 2023, or is there a rights issue? I wasn't sure if it was just a matter if waiting or if we would only get clips.

The other missing category was Comedy Performance. The plays were nominated but not the actual performances within them. It makes no sense to nominate best actors and actresses in both main and supporting roles in both dramas and musicals but then not have even just one nomination for those performing a purely comic role. It's its own art.

I was blown away by the way she presided over the show, including her opening song. She is a champion for the musical theatre community, and so deserved to be mentioned … best Olivier Awards ever

i've still to sit down and watch the oliviers (even though i know the winners i do like to see the speeches and any performances through the show) but i did not know it was just highlights and not the full show for the uk :( feels very weird to not show it in its entirety in the country it is being held

Ridiculously pleased for Amy Trigg. Great to see the younger generations of Disabled people kicking down doors that were locked to my generation - and being judged on their *merits* . Representation Matters! 🎭♿✊

These are creative awards so the wigs hair and makeup would go to best wig hair and make up “design” not for maintenance and upkeep. Often costume designers also design makeup and hair in the same way that set designers design costumes and vice versa so it’s not so straightforward in theatre as it is in film and tv where projects often have separate creative departments.

Fun fact: never wear purple in Italian theaters. It's like jinxing the show (on the old days purple was the lent's colour and actors literally starved)

you can buy tickets to attend the Olivier Awards as part of the public, that's what Aaron and Mickey did. they weren't nominated.

That Highlights reel of those awards on ITV not shown in the edited show was appalling as it DIDN’T say who the WINNERS were! How stupid and demeaning. Still the show was much better than the weak and weedy BAFTAs

I watched the Highlights reel on ITV, I was so sad they didn't air the full speech after the Best Actress in a Supporting role in a play win for Haydn Gwynne, they only showed a small snippet! I saw Haydn Gwynne this time last year in Bake Off and she was absolutely stunning, I will remember her cartwheel for as long as I live 💗
