It's really important to realize that Scott isn't a good person. He's deeply flawed, callous and self-centered. Throughout the movie he learns lessons and becomes a better person, but even by the end of the movie he still isn't a "good" person, just a decent(ish) person that is still growing. This is part of why is his Nega Persona is a reasonable and chill guy.

Yup. They only had so much time in the movie so it makes sense that they had to move things along as quickly as they did, but the point of both Ramona and Scott being shitty people getting a second chance at being not shitty people doesn't get enough emphasis as a result. I read the book after I saw the movie and it really helped clarify things.

@@kenjutsukata1o1yeah basically did the same thing where I watch this movie and thought they were Oddities to it. And after I learned it was based on the comic book and made it a point to read the comics. And the comments are just so much better not saying the movie is bad but the comics are so much better cuz like you said they're going to so much more depth and detail on everything. And if you read the comics you know that the one who is done dirtiest was Kim

Right? The whole movie basically just follows the villains as the main characters. Scott is a groomer and a creep, and Ramona is a manipulative abuser. Literally all of her exes are just people she fucked over trying to warn Scott about how toxic she is

Yea but.. everyone who says Scott’s some original kinna scumbag is such a tool. Not condoning his behavior but it’s not that simple.. he is sorta going through something where he’s absentminded.. an trying to find himself. An so while that doesn’t condone it it makes it so it’s not like he’s coherent an operating at full capacity while he’s juggling two girls. Yes it sucks.. obviously.. but Scott’s not a total asshole because of it.. he was an asshole for doing it but it’s not a coffin nail to em.. like if ur half way invested in something just sorta floating by an then u wake up an say “wait what am I doing?” Which he did. Some don’t.. so.. It’s just insane to freak out about it without taking that into account. That that is a small fragment of the whole story that’s happening

for those that didn't read the comics, even though everything seems random in this story, it's all cohesively tied around the theme of baggage, moving on, relationships, coming to terms with personal mistakes and a lot more. we start out the story with Scott one year after getting his heart broken by his ex (Envy) and has recently begun dating a highschooler, a relationship that to him seems just so easy and carries no-baggage and super casual. and then he meets Ramona, a girl just riddled with baggage and mistakes, but because of pure coincidence, attracts the attention of Scott. and for the 6 books in the Scott pilgrim story, we explore Scott and Ramona's history, with them coming to terms with their past mistakes even though they try to run away from it (like Ramona) or keep it out of their mind entirely (like scott did), we also get to explore their relationships with their friends, exes, and the people around them, and by the end they learn and become better people, or at least try and see if they can become better people now free of the baggage of their past. despite the fun and goofy nature of the comic and the movie, deep inside is a lot of heart and it's one of my favorite books.

Seems like the one who learned the least in the movie was Scott's sister. Butts into brothers deal, then bails when he tries to go to her, then finally gives good advice but still has the phone call with a put-down(unsure still if the call is about scott). That still bugs me

@@3agl33y369 true, but to be fair even in the book, Stacey (named after the books' writer's real life sister) doesn't really do much. she's more like a recurring side character unlike Kim, Stephen and Knives who are more prominent in the story.

This is my favorite movie of all time. The humor is so unique, the editing is awesome, the cast is phenomenal. Ik all the lines and I even have the soundtrack on vinyl. After I watched it a few times I started to realize that Gidion and Ramona’s relationship was one of emotional abuse bc he would string her along even though he didn’t truly care about her and since she’s always been the one to dump people she can’t understand why she goes back to him. It’s just an amazing movie! I saw it in theaters for the 10 year anniversary and I highly recommend it, it’s one of those movies that needs to be seen on the big screen, especially the battle of the bands.

The reason why it’s so jumpy is that they made it true to the graphic novel. They styled it so that each shot feels like a comic panel. So it feels like a live motion of the graphic novels. This movie is still ahead of its time. Sin city as well. I hope we get more adaptations like this in the future.

I love this movie, and yeah, it can be really jarring on a first watch. I didn't read the books but a friend did, which is how I know this next bit I'll tell you, as it helped me to contextualize the movie and meld the world of the movie with our world (because it is set in our world, early 2000s ish, as it would fall under the genre of realistic fantasy or magical realism); The reason no one of the main cast is really surprised by the game/comic book type abilities of people and similar weirdness is because Scott has done this before: he had to fight for and rescue Kim from I think demons (don't remember that exactly). Scott and other characters have abilities that they've always have and never noticed, and they're life is like a real-life video game. Ramona can travel through interdimensional doors and pathways, one of which happens to go through Scott's head. Her bag is an interdimensional doorway, hence her pulling out the giant hammer. Julie (Aubrey Plaza), she's a witch. When she's mad at Scott at the party, all that stuff around is actually happening - the lights cutting out, the way they zoom in on Scott and everything in the background fades to black for a bit, that's actually happening to him. I probably have missed some stuff or explained something the wrong way, as again, I never read them myself, but hope this helps a bit.
@aliar86
@aliar86 Жыл бұрын
Not exactly true. Everything in the comics is shown through Scott's warped perception of reality, some character even says he may have brain damage. Anyway, in terms of interdimensional doorways and super powers this isn't relevant, it's more likely more true than not. But many other things are false perceptions, specifically related to the friendships and relationships Scott has. For example, he didn't rescue Kim from evil high schoolers, that's a story he made up in his head, the true ot at least Kim's version of that story is he just got into a fight with her boyfriend and was overall a bad guy in that event. In his universe Scott is the hero and never does any mistake, but the comics and the last volume in particular make it clear he has been a huge asshole and we aren't seeing the full picture through his eyes.

The Young Neil thing is starting to fly over people's heads, and I feel so old. It's supposed to be kinda telegraphed by the frontman of Sex Bob-Omb being named Stephen Stills, and Young Neil, if you are aware of that part of music history, is a play on Neil Young (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, which eventually dropped the Young).

This movie is why I hate it when people say you can't make a live action anime. This is exactly how you would do it. Don't try to change things for a broad audience or try and make things more lifelike and realistic. Just translate the craziness of the source material 1:1 and let it speak for itself.

💯 they take all the magic outta the shows and Disney cartoons with the live action realism crap. We could've gotten so much more if the creators were allowed to take risks and get imaginative like this

I recently started reading the comics and the relationships of characters in them are so much better (makes sense, cause they had to fit it into the movie). Wallace is such a cool guy and even more supportive of Scott in the comics, Kim and Ramona are pretty chill with each other and actually interact, just in general really great comics.

The song Scott wrote for Ramona is actually a song by Beck, He's actually only singing the chorus 😄

I've watched this movie probably over a dozen times and I only just got the joke of showing Wallace when they sing "You've just got to turn the knob" during the first battle (knob is British slang for a penis, and the director Edgar Wright is British)

Zuff needs that mic compressed in editing lmao I had my speakers almost explode when he yelled into the mic and the rest of the video/mics are so quiet XD Great movie choice, one of my faves ever.

This is one my favorite movies that I can't explain why it's a favorite. Edgar Wright just does it for me for some reason.

If you have the dvd, you can cycle through the commentary tracks from your remote and there is a hidden track where Bill hader as the "announcer" narrates the whole movie

Remember watching this movie with a couple of buddies in high school. I was hella into it. After the movie my buddies and I were on our way out and one of them says bursts out laughing, “What the hell did I just watch?!”

This movie is bizarre, brilliant, and hilarious. Excellent concept and writing, crazy effects, and an amazing cast (including the absolute Goddesses Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, and the exquisite Mary Elizabeth Winstead 😍). Edgar Wright is a damn Genius.

The vocals for Clash at Demonhead were done by Metric and their lead singer, which is why it goes.

Kind of funny that more people don't pay attention to the fact that Nega-Scott was "just a really nice guy." Remember people: just because someone is your opposite doesn't automatically make them more evil than you.
