I still use my SLDR but I reduced the sliding weight to a mere 2 grams. This helped me to swing it a bit faster and it is more forgiving than with the original weight. Also you have to use at least 1 - 2 degrees higher loft settings than usual. Compared to my Stealth driver, it hits about the same distance. I actually loved the sound of the SLDR, I didn’t quite like carbon faced sound. It sounded more like what you would hear when you hurled a dead cat against the wall… but it’s all a matter of individual preference. Otherwise there’s no significant difference in distance for me.

I like the sound of the SLDR too. My dad used one for a long time and I had a Taylormade RBZ which sounded like an aluminum baseball bat so the SLDR sounded INCREDIBLE next to mine 😂

Sean Toulon, the putter guru, owns the patent for this driver. He was the VP of Golf Development for Taylor Made in the early 2000s.

I have a 2021 Cobra RadSpeed XB driver, that replaced my Cobra F6+ driver. I think the F6+ may have performed a little better, but I couldn't deal with the sound.

I haven’t gone quite as far back, but it’s really hard to beat my OG Sim 8 degree head turned down to 6 degrees. it sits super open so I never hook it, and I can hit up on it to my heart’s content.

My sldr is set at 14degrees R flex and is very straight and forgiving Long and a fairway finder ,not going to change for newer models Taylormade said when it first came out was to loft up with low spin drivers

Ive used an SLDR for years. Took me several to finally stop slicing it consistently. I just bought a used demo of last years Stealth 2 and definitely think it is enough of a marginal increase to warrant the upgrade

Love the vid. I’m 72 and still use the SLDR. Also have a Conra Radspeed which stays in the garage as it is no longer and not as forgiving as the SLDR.

The average golf enthusiast simply can't deal with the fact that the speed a ball comes off a driver face was limited about 20 years ago. Equipment manufacturers will continue to extract $600 a driver out of the pockets of golfers believing in the unicorn effect. Once someone drops $600 they will convince themselves, psychologically, that its so much better even if stats would show there's negligible difference. It's against our nature to think we made a bad decision on a piece of equipment that literally results in no real distance gain and maybe one more fairway hit a round due to higher spin.

Have both the sldr 460 and 430. 430 has gotten me drives over 400yards!! But, unfortunately, many OBs as well! 😂😂

Tsr3 is around 8000 total I believe. 5100 ish on the horizontal axis qi10 max is 5900 ish on that axis

I currently use SLDR 430 with 77 gram tp shaft. I have a M1 430 but I really like the SLDR.

love to see you guys review the 2016 M1 460 , as it was as long as the sldr , and maybe a smidge more forgiving , but not suppose to be as forgiving as the M2 of the same year . :)

2016 M1 430cc was the hottest M1. 2014 Gloire with the carbon face is even hotter than those. -at least thats what I have seen.

Before finishing this video there’s one thing I know for sure. Club fittings special shafts grips etc. really only matter for the .1% of holders out there. I play to scratch. I switched from my $3500 fitted set to a complete set of Kirkland clubs, ball, and gloves. Within a week there’s was absolutely no noticeable difference. In my play and scoring. I lost maybe 6 yards of my drive after that nothing. All this stuff confuses average golfer and is just an extra money grab.

I actually still use a SLDR 430 driver and an SLDR 5 wood, like you say not forgiving by any means, but as long as any club out today! 👍🏻

I have the qi10, and it's great, but what drives me nuts is I can't really "feel" mis-hits. The face is so soft and mushy that if I miss it, I don't feel it, but it still goes straight but short. I have trouble finding the middle, and the face doesn't pick up clubface spray very well, either. It's like a slot machine for me when it comes to distance. Never know what I'm gonna get, but it'll be straight! Hope that makes sense 😅

Been considering upgrading from my SLDR to something newer as i am a mid to high handicap. Love the club when im confident and on my game i can crush drives and be on for even eagles on par 5's but thats only 2/20 times haha. Anyone have suggestions? I was thinking about going to the sim 2 max.

2014 Gloire Driver had a Carbon face and is even hotter than a SLDR or an M1. Find and test one of those. :)

Add a degree of loft to the older driver and you’ll get a little higher spin and more fairways. Will compete well with the newer driver at 9 degree.

This is what referred to as an apologists video. SLDR was so much better and performed despite all of "andectoal" negative evidence they tried to throw at us. And at 10% of the price of the Qi10.

Sadly the video basically didn't show anything. If anything the SLDR was better. Johnny results basically the same distance, maybe the low flight being the only difference. Alex was longer and more consistent with the old stick and couldn't find the middle with the new head

That’s kind of the point of the video Andy - there wasn’t as big a difference as we thought
