Wife and I go for a winter campout in our homemade tent which was heated with our homemade stove. It was 15 degrees Fahrenheit but still quite comfortable in the tent. We have also done a video on how to make teh stove that we used in this video as well as a video on how to make the tent. We also will leave a link below to a video in which we show how to make one of our favorite breads, "Steam Baked Bread."

Hello my name is Lonnie and My wife is Connie.
Here at Far North Bushcraft And Survival you will learn about many long forgotten tricks and tips of the old time woodsmen. Not only will you learn about bushcraft / woodcraft but you will learn many things that will help you to survive in less than ideal "survival" situations as well. Come along and sit with me by the campfire as I delve into these subjects in a way that you can easily learn to then do yourself.
I will show you how to make shelters, gather food, use wild medicines as well as start fires with or without matches, lighters, ferro rods, etc

The wife I always wished I had. My parents were great, by my wife left me with a 25 month old baby on new years eve. She said "I'm tired of being a mom & I only want to take care of myself. I'm starting a new life."

Henry & Scorpiooo, Thanks for the support. My little girl is now in her 30's. She always sends me a wonderful father's day card thanking me for being a great dad. Recently she told me the only childhood memory of her mom, was looking out the window waiting for mom to pick her up, but mom didn't show. Life can suck sometimes.

I don't remember much about our family camping because I was very young. What I do remember, was watching my Daddy with a long stick and a funny round thing with lots of string on it. He would whip the stick and the string would fly out into the water. Then he caught what Mommy said was a trout. Later, as a Girl Scout I learned quit a bit more. Thank both you and Mrs. Connie for sharing this winter camping with me.

Watching Connie mix the bread dough reminds me of me making my roll on deodorant mix. I don’t know if my mixing technique would help Connie or offer an alternative method sometimes, but I use a ziplock baggie to put my dry ingredients in and then blend them by shaking etc. Then I add my water and alcohol and vitamin E. Then I massage the bag until everything is mixed up well. Then, when I get the proper amount of water added, I cut the bottom corner of the baggie off and squeeze or “pipe” the mix into a roll-on dispenser. If I don’t use all that’s in the bag, and I never do, I use a twist tie to seal it off for next time. I could see a baggie being used to hold your dough or pancake dry ingredients mix for transport, then you add water, mix it by massaging it and then cut a big enough hole on the corner to pipe out the dough or pancake mix. No spoons or bowls to clean up and you can save unused mix for later by sealing the hole shut with a twist tie.

Somehow, it gets into the soul, rather, dealing with the full spectrum of nature’s temperatures gets into the soul. The sweet green up of spring all the way to the squeaking steps through snow and cold of winter. It all calls to me. I’m gonna learn to sail this summer, may make it make to Alaska in a sailboat yet. Lonnie, I had to laugh about your getting up to stoke the fire several times during the night. I don't have a fireplace or stove to stoke but at 73 I have to get up several times a night, too...LOL. I'm more of an overland camper now as trekking in the woods has gotten more difficult for me however I still love to bushcraft camp to keep my skills honed as they often come in handy while overlanding. On my last outing I taught a young couple how to start a fire in wet conditions as it had rained the entire day. They were really frustrated and cold so I invited them to share dinner with me. I taught them about tinder, how to make their own at home, where to find tinder in wet conditions, how to use a ferro rod (even gave them one of mine) and to use aids like votive candles, hand sanitizer, vaseline impregnated cotton balls, fatwood, etc. They had one zippo lighter between them. I showed them my fire kit with several fire starting methods, tinder, etc. I watched many of your videos to learn tricks of the trade you use in Alaska and especially in its winter months. Great enjoyable tutorial channel. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and knowledge, both you and Connie. Happy New Year!

Great outing in the hot tent, wonderful DIY project! I turn my hard cooler into a warmer when cold camping. I put boiling water in two small stainless bottles and put them in wool socks, then place them in the warmer. I do this at night and in the morning, never had frozen stuff yet and it works great for keeping batteries warm as well. I don't like stuffing everything in my sleeping bag to keep it warm, especially at night, so really enjoy the warmer. Thanks for sharing! :) :)

i've been silently watching this channel for a while and i would just like to say Thanks for thorough explanations, Even in things some might consider obvious like "hot air rises", Your explanations on how to help better keep the heat in the tent were very nice.

You just can't beat a good old leatherman. I don't think that I have gone a week in the last 25 years without it coming to the rescue.

I was a Gerber multitool fan for many many years because I did not like the early Leathermans. However last summer I lost my Gerber that I had had for perhaps a decade. I replaced it with this current Leatherman and am liking it more and more. Leatherman has addressed some of their past weaknesses it seems. I too use my multitool so often that I feel that I just cannot be without one at any time. If I am dressed . . . I am wearing my multitool.

@@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival I owned 2 black Gerbers in the 90's l loved them but for some reason I couldn't keep them for over a year with out losing them. Maybe because of my youth or the tool being black I am not sure. But I have found a leatherman while gold panning before. I use the wave leatherman now but I also have the crunch and original. What model is your EDC? Our warm winter was interrupted with a cold snap of -10 last night. But still warmer temperatures than most January's so I am not complaining to much. Stay warm Friend.

My Leatherman model is the Super Tool 300. I liked that extra length since the saw would be slightly longer than the shorter models.

Been watching your youtube content. So far I made 3 paper model tents with 12"x16" paper sheets. I did that so I don't get confused when I get tarp and tape on the grass. Made the Baker, teepee round and the teepee square tall model you use the exterior bipod. Just wanted to thank you for your content. I see you have some haters, when you have haters.... You know you have a gem in the rough. Keep up the awesome work.
