Woooooo that drum intro will always get me... It is too smooth. So glad Parlato and Robert Glasper wrote this version. Definitely one of my favorite tracks, ever.

Gretchen Parlato is and has been one of the finest jazz vocalists of our time. Love her in this big band setting. Not to be missed is the Tony Lakatos sax solo at 3:05...truly special.

Yes Tony's solo was so well arranged and built, perfect in it's execution. Amazingly satisfying. Gretchen is simply awesome. Would love to see her with Dani Gurgel for a collaborative effort.

Jim McNeely- big Jim...What amazes me is 'what CAN" happen when a simple pop song is turned over to a jazz musician, composer/arranger for starters. Jim McNeely's arrangement is too much man...ear candy. Of course the entire band - they're excellent and most jazz singers know Gretchen's work. She's singing with effortless soul, yet always an astute musician we love. Congratulations to this excellent band and everyone involved. You've brightened my new year...2022...is almost here.

Wonderful effect in intro and later on too, known as 'hocketting' where notes seem to bounced from one side of the stage to the other. Superb rendition of wonderful song, solo builds so well, against underlying chords - big band arrangements have come on so far since the days of Ellington, Quincy Jones, even Gil Evans. Absolutely knockout!

Lyrics I don't know what it is that you've done to me But it's caused me to act in such a crazy way Whatever it is that you do when you do what you're doing It's a feeling I wanna stay Time after time after time I try to fight it But your love is strong and keeps on holding on Resistance down when you're around I'm fading My condition I don't wanna be alone 'Cause my heart starts beating triple time With thoughts of loving you on my mind Can't figure out just what to do When the cause and cure is you Time after time after time I try to fight it But your love is strong and keeps on holding on Resistance down when you're around I'm fading My condition I don't wanna be alone 'Cause my heart starts beating triple time With thoughts of loving you on my mind Can't figure out just what to do When the cause and cure is you I get so weak in the knees I can hardly speak I lose all control and something takes over me In a daze it is so amazing it's not a phase I want you to stay with me by my side I swallow my pride your love is so sweet It knocks me right off of my feet Can't explain why your love it makes me weak I try hard to fight it No way can I deny it Your love so sweet knocks me off my feet Something 'bout the way you do the things you do Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Brian Morgan / Anthony Germaine White / Ronny Wright / Tamia Carter

Sorry..but this DOES NOT AT ALL compare to hearing her do this piece with her band. Although interesting hearing a big band playing behind her, these musicians are reading-music-and-playing. There is no real soul or actual depth. They have made something smoky and sensual into a vanilla performance.
@sydalia37295 жыл бұрын
SWV's original is so much better. This is so not good.
